Objective: To develop and validate machine learning models for predicting coronary artery disease (CAD) within a Taiwanese cohort, with an emphasis on identifying significant predictors and comparing the performance of various models.
Methods: This study involved a comprehensive analysis of clinical, demographic, and laboratory data from 8,495 subjects in Taiwan Biobank (TWB) after propensity score matching to address potential confounding factors. Key variables included age, gender, lipid profiles (T-CHO, HDL_C, LDL_C, TG), smoking and alcohol consumption habits, and renal and liver function markers.

Recent clinical evidence shows that the antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) trastuzumab deruxtecan (T-DXd) can successfully treat patients with advanced HER2-mutant non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We aimed to characterize HER2 mutations in cervical neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) among Taiwanese women to provide the rationale for exploring T-DXd as a tumor-agnostic targeted therapy option. We analyzed 12 archived primary cervical NEC samples from Taiwanese patients.

Psoriasis is an IL-23/IL-17-mediated inflammatory autoimmune dermatosis, and UVB may contribute to immunosuppression and ameliorate associated symptoms. One of the pathophysiology underlying UVB therapy is the production of cis-urocanic acid (cis-UCA) by keratinocytes. However, the detailed mechanism is yet to be fully understood.

Objective: The etiology underlying cases of palindromic rheumatism (PR) not associated with other rheumatic diseases in patients who are seronegative for rheumatoid factor and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (seronegative PR) is unclear. We aimed to investigate the immune cells and genes involved.
Methods: This was a single-center comparative study of 48 patients with seronegative PR and 48 healthy controls.

The successful experiences of HER2 inhibitors in patients with HER2 ( +) breast cancer (BC) and advanced gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma (GEA) have encouraged us to continuously explore the HER2 status and its potential as a therapeutic target in primary mucinous ovarian carcinoma (mOC). Using 49 primary mOC samples, we compared the assay characteristics of HER2 status between both 2017 American Society of Clinical Oncology/College of American Pathologists (ASCO/CAP) for GEA and 2018 ASCO/CAP for BC guideline recommendations. We demonstrated moderate to strong agreement between their HER2 IHC results (Weighted Kappa = 0.

Clinical trials evaluating the safety and antibody response of strategies to manipulate prophylactic and therapeutic immunity have been launched. We aim to evaluate strategies for augmentation of host immunity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. We searched clinical trials registered at the National Institutes of Health by 25 May 2021 and conducted analyses on inoculated populations, involved immunological processes, source of injected components, and trial phases.

Introduction: The exposure to amalgam restorations has been reported to bring about altered immunity followed by inflammation and infection.
Aims: This study aimed at identifying whether patients who received restorative or endodontic treatments, or tooth extraction, would have altered odds of developing oral lichen planus (OLP).
Material And Methods: In this population-based nested case-control study, 421 cases of OLP and 1,684 controls were included after propensity score matching.

Purpose: No studies have examined the relationship between the intensity of facial emotion expression and theory of mind (ToM) ability in people with epilepsy. This study aimed to explore facial emotion recognition in a group of patients with frontal (FLE) or temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and its relationship with the intensities of perceived facial emotion expressions, ToM, and social functioning.
Methods: Twenty-six patients with FLE or TLE and 30 matched controls were included in the study.

Purpose: Interaction and observation are critical skills for occupational therapists who work with pediatric clients. The objective of this study was to investigate whether using standardized child patients within a situated simulation-based (SSB) program increases students' knowledge and clinical skills when working with children in occupational therapy.
Materials And Methods: This controlled trial with multiple measures recruited students from the pediatric occupational therapy curriculum enrolled in an SSB program in consecutive academic years ( = 62).

Objective: Considering the clinical evidence of BRAF inhibitors that can treat melanoma patients successfully, we aimed to investigate the status of BRAF mutations of primary mucinous ovarian carcinomas (MOC) in Taiwanese women, and apply the emerging paradigm classification of BRAF mutation groups.
Materials And Methods: 20 archived primary MOC samples were analyzed. The BRAF mutations of activation segment (exon 15), CR3 (conserved regions 3), kinase domain of the BRAF gene were analyzed using the highly sensitive BRAF mutant enriched kit (FemtoPath®) with Sanger sequencing method.

Background: To determine whether patients who had undergone tonsillectomy would have higher risks of postoperative periodontitis.
Methods: Data were collected from the Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Dataset from 1999 to 2013, a population-based cohort study consisting of cases of newly-onset sleep apnoea, chronic diseases of tonsils and adenoids, peritonsillar abscess, and periodontal diseases. A total of 1482 tonsillectomy cases and 14,796 non-tonsillectomy controls were selected.

To evaluate the efficacy of an educational module on evidence-based medicine (EBM) assisted with electronic medical databases (EMDs) for preclinical education, medical students ( = 111) were matriculated in a program consisted of 16 2-h sessions on EBM plus hands-on experience on EMDs in a problem-based learning-type format. Students were required to make an oral presentation on designated clinical scenarios before and after the sessions, without prior notice, as an indicator of performance. In addition, questionnaires focusing on behavioral changes, awareness, and confidence of mastering EBM were administered before and after the sessions to assess the attitudinal and behavioral impact of the intervention on the participants.

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) accounts for most of the anemia in pregnancy, and iron is essential for neurodevelopment. Tics and Tourette's syndrome (TS) are neurodevelopmental disorders that manifest in childhood. A few studies reported an inconclusive association between iron deficiency and tics in children.

Dementia and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are proposed to be comorbid with periodontitis (PD). It is unclear whether PD is associated with dementia and AD independent of confounding factors. We aimed at identifying the relationship between the longitudinal risk of developing PD in a cohort of patients with dementia and AD who did not show any signs of PD at baseline.
