Honokiol Suppresses Cell Proliferation and Tumor Migration through ROS in Human Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer Cells.

Background: Honokiol is a natural polyphenolic compound extracted from Magnolia officinali, which is commonly used material in Chinese herbal medicine, has a variety of biological functions, including anti-tumor, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammation, anti-microbial and anti-allergy. Although honokiol has numerous beneficial effects on human diseases, the underlying mechanisms of tumor metastasis are still unclear. Previously, we reported that honokiol suppresses thyroid cancer cell proliferation with cytotoxicity through cell cycle arrest, apoptosis, and dysregulation of intracellular hemostasis.

Transgenerational Effects of Di(2-Ethylhexyl) Phthalate on Anogenital Distance, Sperm Functions and DNA Methylation in Rat Offspring.

Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is widely used as a plasticizer in the manufacture of polyvinylchloride plastics and has been associated with concerns regarding male reproductive toxicity. In this study, we hypothesized that maternal exposure to DEHP induces transgenerational inheritance of adult-onset adverse reproductive outcomes through the male germline in the F1, F2, and F3 generations of male offspring. Pregnant rats were treated with 5 or 500 mg of DEHP/kg/day through gavage from gestation day 0 to birth.

Primary cutaneous cribriform apocrine carcinoma: Case report and literature review.

Primary cutaneous cribriform apocrine carcinoma is a rare but distinct variant of primary cutaneous apocrine carcinoma and it is considered a low grade malignancy. We herein present a case of primary cutaneous cribriform apocrine carcinoma at the neck of a 26-year-old female. The tumor features a relatively well-circumscribed border and multiple aggregations of mildly pleomorphic epithelial cells with large ovoid nuclei, small nucleoli and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasms.

Effect of psycho-educational interventions on quality of life in patients with implantable cardioverter defibrillators: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Background: Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) were developed for primary and secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death. However, ICD recipients' mortality is significantly predicted by their quality of life (QOL). The aim of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects of psycho-educational interventions on QOL in patients with ICDs.

Pentoxifylline ameliorates non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in hyperglycaemic and dyslipidaemic mice by upregulating fatty acid β-oxidation.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which includes simple steatosis, steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and cirrhosis, is characterised by abnormal fat accumulation in the liver in the absence of excessive alcohol intake. In patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D), concurrent NAFLD might increase the risk of chronic kidney disease and the mortality rate. Although several studies have examined the effectiveness of pentoxifylline (PTX) in NAFLD treatment, no results are available to verify the effectiveness of PTX in treating T2D associated with NAFLD.

Background: The family of a child with an advanced brain tumor may undergo serious physical and psychological impacts as the child's conditions worsen. It is important for health professionals to understand the mother's experiences when facing a child with cancer recurrence or who is dying.

Objective: A retrospective study using Husserl's phenomenological approach was used to explore the essence of the maternal experiences related to the anticipatory loss of families of a child with advanced cancer.

Gallic acid ameliorated impaired glucose and lipid homeostasis in high fat diet-induced NAFLD mice.

Gallic acid (GA), a naturally abundant plant phenolic compound in vegetables and fruits, has been shown to have potent anti-oxidative and anti-obesity activity. However, the effects of GA on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) are poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the beneficial effects of GA administration on nutritional hepatosteatosis model by a more "holistic view" approach, namely 1H NMR-based metabolomics, in order to prove efficacy and to obtain information that might lead to a better understanding of the mode of action of GA.

Gender differences in the predictors of depression among patients with heart failure.

Background: Depression is common in patients with heart failure. The prevalence of depression is known to differ in male and female patients with heart failure, but little is known about whether these patients differ in predictors of depression. The purposes of this study were to: (1) determine whether the prevalence of depression in patients with heart failure differed by gender: (2) examine if predictors of depression differed by patient gender.

Aims And Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of internet health education on female university students' knowledge and cognition regarding hepatitis B.

Background: One of the focal points of preventing hepatitis B is to improve students' knowledge of hepatitis B. The internet is thought to attract learners, ensure privacy and provide channels for help.

[The effect of yoga exercise intervention on health related physical fitness in school-age asthmatic children].

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of yoga exercise on the health-related physical fitness of school-age children with asthma. The study employed a quasi-experimental research design in which 31 voluntary children (exercise group 16; control group15) aged 7 to 12 years were purposively sampled from one public elementary school in Taipei County. The yoga exercise program was practiced by the exercise group three times per week for a consecutive 7 week period.

Development and psychometric testing of the Cancer Knowledge Scale for Elders.

Aim: To develop the Cancer Knowledge Scale for Elders and test its validity and reliability.

Background: The number of elders suffering from cancer is increasing. To facilitate cancer prevention behaviours among elders, they shall be educated about cancer-related knowledge.
