Objective: Tendinopathy is influenced by multiple factors, including chronic inflammation and aging. Senescent cells exhibit characteristics such as the secretion of matrix-degrading enzymes and pro-inflammatory cytokines, collectively known as senescence-associated secretory phenotypes (SASPs). Many of these SASP cytokines and enzymes are implicated in the pathogenesis of tendinopathy.

Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan; Department of Orthopaedics, School of Medicine, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taipei, Taiwan. Electronic address:

Purpose: Recent biomechanical studies have highlighted the importance of foveal reinsertion when repairing triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injury with foveal tears. However, clinical studies comparing different repair techniques are scarce. We compared the clinical outcomes of suture anchor repair and rein-type capsular suture in patients with TFCC palmer 1B foveal tears with a minimum of 2-year follow-up.

This study aimed to explore the current evidence on preventing blood-borne virus infections among people who inject drugs (PWID). We conducted a comprehensive search across three databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library) for relevant articles published in English between 2014 and 2023. We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, assessed the quality of the paper using the revised Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool (ROB 2), and conducted a meta-analysis using RevMan 5.

Background: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the primary cause of vision impairment in older adults, especially in developed countries. While many articles on AMD exist in the literature, none specifically delve into the trends based on document categories. While bibliometric studies typically use dual-map overlays to highlight new trends, these can become congested and unclear with standard formats (e.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examined how underweight patients with COVID-19 fared compared to normal-weight patients and how antiviral treatments affected their outcomes.
  • Using a data network, researchers divided the patients into groups to compare hospitalization and death rates during a follow-up period.
  • Findings revealed that underweight patients had a higher risk of severe outcomes, but those who received antiviral treatments had significantly better outcomes than those who did not.*

The Pulsed Nd:YAG Laser Therapy Enhanced Nerve Regeneration via Apoptosis Inhibition in a Rat Crushed Sciatic Nerve Model.

Neurochem Res

April 2024

Department of Orthopedics, National Cheng Kung University Hospital, College of Medicine, National Cheng Kung University, 1 University Road, East District, Tainan, 701, Taiwan.

The study was aimed to validate the efficacy of the pulsed Nd:YAG laser on nerve regeneration in a rat sciatic nerve crushed model. 54 Wistar rats were randomly assigned into three groups: shame control, crush control, and laser treated group. For the laser treated group, the pulsed Nd:YAG laser (10 Hz) with 350 mJ per pulse in energy density and 50 J/cm in fluence was applied extracorporeally at the lesion site for 12 min to daily deliver 500 J immediately and consecutive 9 days following the crush injury.

Allyl isothiocyanate (AITC) is abundant in cruciferous vegetables and it present pharmacological activity including anticancer activity in many types of human cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Currently, no available information to show AITC affecting DNA damage and repair-associated protein expression in human gastric cancer cells. Therefore, in the present studies, we investigated AITC-induced cytotoxic effects on human gastric cancer in AGS and SNU-1 cells whether or not via the induction of DNA damage and affected DNA damage and repair associated poteins expressions in vitro.

Aortic wall inflammation, abnormal oxidative stress and progressive degradation of extracellular matrix proteins are the main characteristics of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). The nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome dysregulation plays a crucial role in aortic damage and disease progression. The first aim of this study was to examine the effect of baicalein (5,6,7-trihydroxy-2-phenyl-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one) on AAA formation in apolipoprotein E-deficient (ApoE) mice.

Propofol, an anesthetic characterized by its benefits of rapid induction, maintenance, and recovery times, may cause cytotoxic effects, resulting in propofol infusion syndrome (PRIS). In addition to causing dyslipidemia in PRIS, our previous works showed that propofol overdose induced phagocyte apoptosis. This study, using an experimental ex vivo model of propofol treatment, investigated the possible cytopathology in the blood.

(1) Background: Persistent hyperglycemia in diabetes mellitus (DM) increases the risk of death and causes cardiovascular disease (CVD), resulting in significant social and economic costs. This study used a machine learning (ML) technique to build prediction models with the factors of lifestyle, medication compliance, and self-control in eating habits and then implemented a predictive system based on the best model to forecast whether blood glucose can be well-controlled within 1 year in diabetic patients attending a DM nutritional clinic. (2) Methods: Data were collected from outpatients aged 20 years or older with type 2 DM who received nutrition education in Chi Mei Medical Center.
