Background And Purpose: MRI images timely and accurately reflect ischemic injuries to the brain tissues and, therefore, can support clinical decision-making of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). To maximize the information provided by the MRI images, we leverage deep learning models to segment, classify, and map lesion distributions of AIS.
Methods: We evaluated brain MRI images of AIS patients from 2017 to 2020 at a tertiary teaching hospital and developed the Semantic Segmentation Guided Detector Network (SGD-Net), composed of the first U-shaped model for segmentation in diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and the second model for binary classification of lesion size (lacune vs.

Background/purpose: This study investigated the demographic characteristics and influenza complications of paediatric patients and explored the association of different influenza virus types and viral and bacterial coinfections with disease severity.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study used data collected in 2010-2016 from the Chang Gung Research Database (CGRD), the largest collection of multi-institutional electronic medical records in Taiwan. Data were retrieved for children aged 0-18 years with laboratory-confirmed influenza.

Background: Timely and accurate outcome prediction plays a vital role in guiding clinical decisions on acute ischemic stroke. Early condition deterioration and severity after the acute stage are determinants for long-term outcomes. Therefore, predicting early outcomes is crucial in acute stroke management.

Patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus at the age of 16-25 face the challenges of the deterioration of disease control and accelerated exacerbation. Providing interventions that meet patient's healthcare needs can reduce the impact and improve health outcome. The purpose of this study was to identify the healthcare needs of patients with type 1 diabetes during the adolescence to adulthood transition period from the perspectives of patients, parents and healthcare providers.

This prospective study tested a model to depict associations between a number of individual characteristics and 6-month glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Adolescents (N = 232) aged 10-19 years with T1D were recruited from a medical center in Taiwan. Demographic characteristics, emotional autonomy, problem-solving ability, self-efficacy at baseline, and self-management information three months after baseline were collected using a self-reported questionnaire.

Background: High emotional autonomy has a negative association, whereas good problem-solving ability and parent-adolescent relationships have positive association with self-management in adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Exploring roles of these variables is crucial to design specific interventions to improve self-management in such afflicted adolescents.
Purpose: To explore the roles of emotional autonomy, problem-solving ability and parent-adolescent relationships on self-management in adolescents with T1D.

In renal cell carcinoma (RCC), interleukin (IL)-1β may be a pro-metastatic cytokine. However, we have not yet noted the clinical association between tumoral expression or serum level of IL-1β and RCC in our patient cohort. Herein, we investigate molecular mechanisms elicited by IL-1β in RCC.

Family caregivers of persons with cognitive impairment experience changes in reductions in leisure engagement, which can decrease their subjective wellbeing (leisure satisfaction, negative affect and positive affect). We recruited 100 dyads of patients with cognitive impairment and family caregivers by convenience sampling from outpatient memory clinics and daycare centers in northern Taiwan. Hierarchical regression analysis tested the mediating effects of leisure engagement on the relationship between caregiving stress and subjective wellbeing.

To test whether strokes increase around the time of cancer diagnosis, we comprehensively examined the correlations of cancer and stroke by employing a population-based cohort study design. One million people insured under the Taiwan's National Health Insurance program in 2005 were randomly sampled to create the study's dataset. According to the presence of cancer and/or stroke, patients were separated into cancer and stroke, cancer-only, and stroke-only groups.

Objectives: To determine the safety, efficacy and pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of a pre-mixed depot formulation of leuprolide mesylate subcutaneous injectable suspension (LMIS) 50 mg for up to 1 year of treatment for subjects with advanced prostate cancer.
Patients And Methods: In this open-label, multicenter study, prostate cancer patients with indication for androgen ablation therapy received two subcutaneous injection of LMIS 50 mg 6 months apart and were followed for an additional 6 months. Two efficacy primary end points were the percentage of subjects with a serum testosterone level ≤ 50 ng/dL by Day 28 as well as the percentage of subjects with similar testosterone suppression from Day 28 to Day 336.

Unlabelled: There are limited studies evaluating the safety and efficacy of treatments in young people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). This study compared the efficacy and safety of insulin detemir versus neutral protamine Hagedorn (NPH) insulin, both in combination with metformin and lifestyle intervention, in children and adolescents with T2D. This randomized, open-label, phase 3 trial recruited patients (n = 42) aged 10-17 years diagnosed with T2D already receiving metformin ± other oral antidiabetic drugs ± basal insulin.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is caused by β-cell destruction, usually leading to absolute insulin deficiency. T1D is a heterogeneous disease and is divided into two subtypes according to the presence or absence of pancreatic autoantibodies: type 1A (immune mediated) and type 1B (idiopathic). Genes such as KCNJ11 or INS, which play key roles in β-cell function, provide some insight into the pathogenesis of type 1B diabetes.

Background: Brain metastases are observable in 20-40% of non-small cell lung cancer patients, but standard treatments for such metastases may be intolerable to some. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) were found to be effective against mutant-EGFR lung adenocarcinomas, but data regarding their effectiveness, especially for the second-generation EGFR-TKI afatinib, is limited. This study compared key outcomes for afatanib monotherapy versus afatinib combined with whole-brain radiotherapy (WBRT) in treatment-naïve lung adenocarcinoma patients harboring EGFR mutations.

Coincidence of facial and dental midlines is one of the important goals in orthognathic-orthodontic treatment to achieve optimum facial aesthetics and good occlusal functions. Tools assisting diagnosis of facial midline are usually ruler or dental floss. These tools are usually hand held and hinder the global sight required in facial evaluation.

RBM4 participates in cell differentiation by regulating tissue-specific alternative pre-mRNA splicing. RBM4 also has been implicated in neurogenesis in the mouse embryonic brain. Using mouse embryonal carcinoma P19 cells as a neural differentiation model, we observed a temporal correlation between RBM4 expression and a change in splicing isoforms of Numb, a cell-fate determination gene.
