Methods: This retrospective cohort study used data collected in 2010-2016 from the Chang Gung Research Database (CGRD), the largest collection of multi-institutional electronic medical records in Taiwan. Data were retrieved for children aged 0-18 years with laboratory-confirmed influenza.

This prospective study tested a model to depict associations between a number of individual characteristics and 6-month glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels in adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Adolescents (N = 232) aged 10-19 years with T1D were recruited from a medical center in Taiwan. Demographic characteristics, emotional autonomy, problem-solving ability, self-efficacy at baseline, and self-management information three months after baseline were collected using a self-reported questionnaire.

The mediating effects of leisure engagement on relationships between caregiving stress and subjective wellbeing among family caregivers of persons with cognitive impairment: A cross-sectional study.

Family caregivers of persons with cognitive impairment experience changes in reductions in leisure engagement, which can decrease their subjective wellbeing (leisure satisfaction, negative affect and positive affect). We recruited 100 dyads of patients with cognitive impairment and family caregivers by convenience sampling from outpatient memory clinics and daycare centers in northern Taiwan. Hierarchical regression analysis tested the mediating effects of leisure engagement on the relationship between caregiving stress and subjective wellbeing.

Stroke Rate Increases Around the Time of Cancer Diagnosis.

To test whether strokes increase around the time of cancer diagnosis, we comprehensively examined the correlations of cancer and stroke by employing a population-based cohort study design. One million people insured under the Taiwan's National Health Insurance program in 2005 were randomly sampled to create the study's dataset. According to the presence of cancer and/or stroke, patients were separated into cancer and stroke, cancer-only, and stroke-only groups.

A phase 3, open-label, multicenter study of a 6-month pre-mixed depot formulation of leuprolide mesylate in advanced prostate cancer patients.

Objectives: To determine the safety, efficacy and pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of a pre-mixed depot formulation of leuprolide mesylate subcutaneous injectable suspension (LMIS) 50 mg for up to 1 year of treatment for subjects with advanced prostate cancer.

Patients And Methods: In this open-label, multicenter study, prostate cancer patients with indication for androgen ablation therapy received two subcutaneous injection of LMIS 50 mg 6 months apart and were followed for an additional 6 months. Two efficacy primary end points were the percentage of subjects with a serum testosterone level ≤ 50 ng/dL by Day 28 as well as the percentage of subjects with similar testosterone suppression from Day 28 to Day 336.

[Reducing the Care-Related Burdens of a Family Caregiver of a Person With Mild Cognitive Impairment: A Home-Based Case Management Program].

The long-term care of cognitively impaired patients with concomitant behavioral problems brings great stress and burdens to family caregivers. The present article describes a family caregiver with multiple chronic diseases who concurrently shouldered primary care responsibilities for her husband, a patient with mild cognitive impairment, problematic behaviors, and medication non-adherence issues. The period of care was between September 23rd and December 29th, 2015.

Comorbidity and dementia: A nationwide survey in Taiwan.

Background: Comorbid medical diseases are highly prevalent in the geriatric population, imposing hardship on healthcare services for demented individuals. Dementia also complicates clinical care for other co-existing medical conditions. This study investigated the comorbidities associated with dementia in the elderly population aged 65 years and over in Taiwan.

[Reflection on the Differences and Similarities of Mental Health Care in Virginia and Taiwan: Geography, History, Culture, and Nurse Practitioners].

Sponsored by the pilot overseas internships project of the Ministry of Education, Taiwan, the authors and ten undergraduate students from Taiwan visited several mental health facilities in Virginia for one month. These facilities included the Catawba State Hospital, Salem Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Carilion Saint Albans Behavioral Health (New River Valley Medical Center), Warm Hearth Village, Adult & Child Family Counseling private outpatient clinic, the Free Clinic of the New River Valley, New Life Clubhouse, and Self-Government Program for Assertive Community Treatment. In-depth dialogue and participation in nursing care under the supervision of registered nurses facilitated the authors' reflection on mental health care and the roles and functions of Taiwanese nurse practitioners.

Reports suggest that between 25% and 80% of patients with Streptococcus bovis/gallolyticus bacteremia have concomitant colorectal tumors. This retrospective study was aimed to identify associations between clinical characteristics and a finding of colorectal neoplasm in patients with S. bovis bacteremia who had colonoscopy examination.
