Background And Aim: To reduce bacterial contamination after reprocessing, various new designs of duodenoscopes have been developed to better expose the elevator complex for cleaning. We compared the rates of bacterial contamination and organic residue in disposable distal cap duodenoscopes and detachable elevator duodenoscopes after manual cleaning and high-level disinfection (HLD), as well as their cost-effectiveness.
Methods: A total of 162 duodenoscopes were randomly assigned to either Group A (disposable distal caps; n = 81) or Group B (detachable elevator; n = 81).

Objective: To identify the COVID-19 pandemic impact on well-being/mental health, coping strategies, and risk factors in adolescents worldwide.
Method: This study was based on an anonymous online multi-national/multi-language survey in the general population (representative/weighted non-representative samples, 14-17 years of age), measuring change in well-being (World Health Organization-Five Well-Being Index [WHO-5]/range = 0-100) and psychopathology (validated composite P-score/range = 0-100), WHO-5 <50 and <29, pre- vs during COVID-19 pandemic (April 26, 2020-June 26, 2022). Coping strategies and 9 a priori- defined individual/cumulative risk factors were measured.

Background: Metabolic risk factors are a significant cause of global burden among adolescents and young adults, but there is a lack of attention to the burden attributable to these metabolic risk factors globally.
Aims: This study aims to provide comprehensive estimates of five important metabolic risk factors and the attributable disease burden in people aged 15-39 years from 1990 to 2021, based on the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) database.
Methods: Global total deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were used to describe the burden attributable to five common metabolic risk factors, including high fasting plasma glucose (FPG), high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high systolic blood pressure (SBP), high body mass index (BMI), and kidney dysfunction, in adolescents and young adults.

The pioneers of next-generation sequencing technology and bioinformatic analyses initiated a new era in microbiology research by offering profound insights into bacterial microbiome communities. View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

Objectives: Intubation is a common procedure in acute hypoxemic respiratory failure (AHRF), with minimal evidence to guide decision-making. We conducted a survey of when to intubate patients with AHRF to measure the influence of clinical variables on intubation decision-making and quantify variability.
Design: Factorial vignette-based survey asking "Would you recommend intubation?" Respondents selected an ordinal recommendation from a 5-point scale ranging from "Definite no" to "Definite yes" for up to ten randomly allocated vignettes.

Background: Chronic gingivostomatitis in cats (FCGS) is a moderately to severely painful condition, potentially caused by inadequate immune response to oral antigenic stimulation. Salivary peptidome analysis can identify inflammatory protein mediators and pathways involved in oral mucosal immune activation and may indicate potential therapeutic options for FCGS.
Objective: Evaluate the diversity and abundance of salivary peptides in cats with FCGS using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) and nanoscale liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (nano LC-MS/MS).

A novel triphenylamine-based dicyano fluorophore (compound 2) was successfully synthesized using a Suzuki cross-coupling reaction, followed by a Knoevenagel condensation catalyzed with baker's yeast. Later, compound 2 was combined with the hydrazine vapor of an electrospun nanofiber sheet, depending on its solid condition. In addition, the electrospinning technique was used to create a nanofiber sheet made of cellulose acetate (CA) combined with compound 2.

Background: A resurgence of pertussis has increased the demand for low-cost vaccines. The aim of this study was to test the immunogenicity of a booster acellular monovalent pertussis vaccine containing reduced-dose (2 μg) recombinant pertussis toxin (PT) and 5 μg filamentous haemagglutinin (FHA; ap) against a version of ap containing tetanus and reduced-dose diphtheria toxoids (Tdap) and a licensed vaccine containing chemically detoxified PT and FHA combined with tetanus toxoid and reduced-dose diphtheria toxoid (Tdap).
Methods: This phase 2/3, observer-blinded, randomised, controlled, non-inferiority trial was done in adolescents aged 9-17 years at two clinical research centres in Bangkok and Pathum Thani, Thailand.
