Spatiotemporal dynamics and tidal transport of microplastics in the tropical waters of the Gulf of Thailand.

Microplastics (MPs) contamination was investigated along a freshwater-seawater continuum from Chumphon River to the Gulf of Thailand. The vertical distribution in the water column and contamination in green mussels were also studied. MPs were detected in all water samples and sediment samples.

Assessing dissociation: A systematic review and evaluation of existing measures.

Objective: This review aimed to assess the psychometric properties and methodological quality of existing dissociation measures.

Methods: MEDLINE, Embase, and PsycINFO were searched in May 2023 using comprehensive search terms for 'dissociation' combined with terms for 'measurement' and 'psychometric properties'. The review was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023423485) and followed PRISMA and COSMIN guidelines.

Background: Twice-yearly subcutaneous lenacapavir has been shown to be efficacious for prevention of HIV infection in cisgender women. The efficacy of lenacapavir for preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in cisgender men, transgender women, transgender men, and gender-nonbinary persons is unclear.

Methods: In this phase 3, double-blind, randomized, active-controlled trial, we randomly assigned participants in a 2:1 ratio to receive subcutaneous lenacapavir every 26 weeks or daily oral emtricitabine-tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (F/TDF).

Given the established antiemetic properties of midazolam, this study compared the combination of low-dose dexamethasone-ondansetron and midazolam with high-dose dexamethasone-ondansetron.

Methods: This open-label, parallel randomized clinical trial involved 30 healthy individuals aged 18 to 45 years.

Development of Antioxidant-Active Sericin-Curcumin-Loaded Sodium Alginate/Polyvinyl Alcohol Films Crosslinked with Calcium Chloride as a Promising Wound Dressing Application.

Silk sericin (SS) and curcumin (Cur) possess significant antioxidant properties, making them highly beneficial for wound healing applications. This study aimed to develop SS-Cur-loaded sodium alginate/polyvinyl alcohol (SA/PVA) films crosslinked with calcium chloride, creating a biomaterial with enhanced stability and antioxidant properties. Wound dressings containing SS-Cur were fabricated by mixing SA and PVA at different ratios of 1:1, 1:2, 1:4, and 1:6.

Monitoring and Treatment of Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria in Patients with Aplastic Anemia in Asia: An Expert Consensus.

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) clones can be identified in a significant proportion of patients with aplastic anemia (AA). Screening for PNH clones at the time of an AA diagnosis is recommended by national and international guidelines. In this report, an expert panel of physicians discusses current best practices and provides recommendations for managing PNH in patients with AA in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Coexistence of and Enhanced Biofilm Thickness but Induced Less Severe Neutrophil Responses and Less Inflammation in Pneumonia Mice Than Alone.

Due to the possible coexistence of (KP) and (CA), strains of KP and CA with biofilm production properties clinically isolated from patients were tested. The production of biofilms from the combined organisms (KP+CA) was higher than the biofilms from each organism alone, as indicated by crystal violet and z-stack immunofluorescence. In parallel, the bacterial abundance in KP + CA was similar to KP, but the fungal abundance was higher than CA (culture method), implying that CA grows better in the presence of KP.

Effect of Subconjunctival Injection of Canine Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Canine Spontaneous Corneal Epithelial Defects.

Spontaneous chronic corneal epithelial defects (SCCEDs) are characterized by nonadherent corneal epithelium leading to poor attachment to the corneal stroma. The objective of this study was to characterize corneal outcomes concurrently with the quantification of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) in tear fluid after the subconjunctival injection of canine adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (cAD-MSCs) in canine SCCEDs. Ten eyes with SCCEDs, which were nonresponsive to two rounds of diamond burr debridement, were included in this study.

Several types of breathing exercise (BE) have demonstrated effect on hemodynamics and heart rate variability (HRV) parameters in hypertension (HT). However, the effectiveness of each breathing pattern requires greater study. The purpose of this review is to explore the benefits of BE in hypertensive patients.

Bacterial Cellulose-Silk Hydrogel Biosynthesized by Using Coconut Skim Milk as Culture Medium for Biomedical Applications.

In this study, hydrogel films of biocomposite comprising bacterial cellulose (BC) and silk (S) were successfully fabricated through a simple, facile, and cost-effective method via biosynthesis by in a culture medium of coconut skim milk/mature coconut water supplemented with the powders of thin-shell silk cocoon (SC). Coconut skim milk/mature coconut water and SC are the main byproducts of coconut oil and silk textile industries, respectively. The S/BC films contain protein, carbohydrate, fat, and minerals and possess a number of properties beneficial to wound healing and tissue engineering, including nontoxicity, biocompatibility, appropriate mechanical properties, flexibility, and high water absorption capacity.

Non-inferiority study of purified Vero rabies vaccine - serum free in three-dose and two-dose pre-exposure prophylaxis regimens in comparison with licensed rabies vaccines.

Background: A next-generation, serum-free, highly purified Vero cell rabies vaccine, PVRV-NG2, is in development.

Methods: This multicenter, observer-blind, phase 3 study evaluated the immunogenicity and safety of PVRV-NG2, compared with two licensed rabies vaccines (purified Vero cell rabies vaccine [PVRV] and human diploid cell vaccine [HDCV]), as a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) regimen. Participants were randomized 3:1:1 to PVRV-NG2, PVRV, or HDCV, as a three-dose (Cohort 1; children and adults; day [D] 0, D7, and D28) or two-dose (Cohort 2; adults; D0 and D7) PrEP regimen.
