Our phytochemical investigation of the roots of led to the isolation of two new lanostane triterpenes, 3-acetylpolycarpol () and 15-acetylpolycarpol (), as well as 15 known compounds (-). The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by an analysis of spectroscopic data. Compounds - were tested against nonsmall cell lung cancer cells (A549) and human cervical carcinoma cells (HeLa) using an MTT assay.

2-Ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate (EHDPP) is a replacement flame-retardant commonly found in several environmental matrices and human biospecimens. Although some adverse effects of EHDPP have been identified, the endocrine-disrupting effects of EHDPP and its key metabolites on the human estrogen receptor (ER) are largely unknown. Herein, we report for the first time that EHDPP, at concentrations found in the environment and humans, significantly promoted estrogenic activity and synergized with 17β-estradiol-induced ER transactivation.

Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) has emerged as a major plant pathogen with the potential to spread through contaminated wastewater, posing risks to agriculture and public health. This study evaluated ToBRFV as a human-specific microbial source tracking (MST) marker in Thailand, comparing its performance to crAssphage. Using qPCR assays, ToBRFV was detected in 62.

This work demonstrates the preparation of fast-swelling hydrogels based on poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and tamarind xyloglucan (XG), utilizing freeze-drying to achieve an interconnected macroporous structure. Although XG is non-toxic and abundant, it has poor mechanical properties. Therefore, XG was mixed with PVA and crosslinked with citric acid (CA).

Aim: Insufficient quality control and limited dissolution of extract capsules restricts their bioavailability and hinder the clinical use for treating mild coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients.
Objective: This study aims to investigate pharmacokinetics and safety of high-dosage ethanolic extract (equivalent to 180 or 360 mg/day of andrographolide), relevant dosages used for mild COVID-19 treatment.
Methods: An open-label, single-dose, and repeated-dose conducted in healthy volunteers.

Soft tissue and bone tumors are rare, and their low frequency and diverse histological types make conducting large-scale clinical trials challenging. Patient-derived xenografts (PDX), entailing implantation of cancer specimens in immunocompromised mice, are emerging as a valuable translational model because PDX keeps the original tumors' character and drug sensitivity. We sequentially transplanted 166 surgical and biopsy specimens from orthopedic surgeries, including 138 soft tissue and bone tumors (81 malignant, 23 intermediate, and 34 benign), 16 metastatic bone tumors, 9 hematological malignancies, and 3 non-tumor tissues.

Tilapia lake virus (TiLV) disease is highly contagious and causes substantial mortality in tilapia. Currently, no effective treatments or commercial vaccines are available to prevent TiLV infection. In this study, TiLV segment 4 (S4) was cloned into the pET28a(+)vector and transformed into Escherichia coli BL21(DE3).

Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is an emerging global opportunistic pathogen that causes nosocomial infections. We demonstrated that the superoxide stress-sensing transcriptional regulator SoxR directly modulated the expression of an operon encompassing sodA1 (encoding manganese-containing superoxide dismutase) and fre (encoding putative flavin reductase) by directly binding to the operator site, which was located between the -35 and -10 motifs of the sodA1 promoter. It is known that upon exposure to the superoxide generators/redox-cycling drugs, the SoxR, which is bound to the operator site, became oxidized.

Glyphosate [N-(phosphonomethyl) glycine], a systemic herbicide, is used globally (825 million kg/year) in 750+ formulations. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classified glyphosate is a probable human carcinogen (Group 2A), but epidemiological studies have been lacking for its association with liver cancer and chronic liver disease. We analyzed urine specimens from 591 patients with newly diagnosed liver cancer, chronic liver disease (CLD), and healthy individuals from five different medical centers between 2011 to 2016 in Thailand.

Traffic-related particulate matter (PM) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have been linked to respiratory diseases and cancer risk in humans. Genomic damage, including benzo[a]pyrene diolepoxide (BPDE)-DNA adducts as well as alterations in telomere length (TL) and mitochondrial DNA copy number (mtDNA-CN) are associated with respiratory diseases. This study aimed to investigate the association between exposure to traffic-related particulate pollutants and genomic damage in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) in human subjects and a bronchial epithelial cell line (BEAS-2B).

A comprehensive phytochemical investigation of root extract led to the isolation of two new geranylated xanthones ( and ), one new geranylated flavone (), one new flavanone (), and one unique benzopyran (), along with 16 known compounds. Structures of the new compounds were elucidated by a combination of spectroscopic and computational methods. Two different types of compounds, flavone and arylbenzofuran , displayed the most potent antityrosinase activity with IC values of 1.

An unprecedented Bi(OTf)-catalyzed reaction between 2-arylisatogens and vinylarenes to yield 2,4-diarylquinolines is reported. The transformation occurred via a Bi-coordination to the embedded anionic nitrone oxygen, which induced a regiospecific stepwise formal [4 + 2]-cycloaddition with vinylarenes to yield a strained tricyclic intermediate, which subsequently extruded gaseous carbon monoxide. -Deoxygenative aromatization ensued to produce 2,4-diarylquinolines.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a prevalent neurodegenerative disorder characterized by symptoms such as memory loss and impaired learning. This study conducted a cross-transcriptomic analysis of AD using existing microarray datasets from the hippocampus (HC) and entorhinal cortex (EC), comparing them with age-matched non-AD controls. Both of these brain regions are critical for learning and memory processing and are vulnerable areas that exhibit abnormalities in early AD.

Ribosomal RNA (rRNA) modifications are involved in multiple biological processes. KsgA is a 16S rRNA adenine dimethyltransferase that methylates at the adenines 1518 and 1519 (A1518/1519) positions, which are located near the ribosome decoding center. These methylations are conserved and important for ribosome biogenesis and protein translation.

Background/aim: Macrophage-mediated cancer immune evasion is modulated by the balance between "the cluster of differentiation 47 (CD47), an anti-phagocytic signal" and "calreticulin (CALR), a pro-phagocytic signal". CD47 is highly expressed in various types of cancer. However, the expression profiles of CD47 and CALR in breast cancer, especially in different hormone receptor subtypes, and the effects of CD47 blockade in macrophage-mediated therapy are not well understood.
