Background: This study aimed to investigate the association between a new biomarker that incorporates albumin (Alb) and butyrylcholinesterase (BCHE) levels, as well as the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after hepatectomy.
Methods: The study enrolled 1712 patients who underwent primary hepatectomy for HCC between January 2003 and December 2019 at seven institutions belonging to the Hiroshima Surgical Study Group of Clinical Oncology. The entire dataset was randomly split into discovery and validation cohorts in a 7:3 ratio.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between clinical findings and the trabecular microstructure of the subchondral bone in patients with hip osteoarthritis (OA) due to developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) using multidetector row computed tomography (MDCT).
Design: A total of 63 patients (69 hips) with OA due to DDH were retrospectively reviewed, with 12 healthy controls being included for comparison. Clinical evaluation was performed using the Japanese Orthopaedic Association Hip Disease Evaluation Questionnaire (JHEQ).

Background: Adjuvant docetaxel plus S1 (DS) chemotherapy after gastrectomy with D2 lymph node dissection is the standard treatment for stage III gastric cancer in Japan; however, some patients are unable to receive adequate drug administration because of the deterioration of their conditions. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between tolerability for postoperative adjuvant DS chemotherapy and prognosis, and the factors affecting tolerability.
Methods: This retrospective study involved patients with stage III gastric cancer who underwent curative resection between 2018 and 2021 from a multicenter database.

After developing job-exposure matrices (JEMs) for screen and sedentary time, we aimed to assess the associations between the JEM-derived exposures and various ocular diseases. We collected data from patients hospitalized from 2005 to 2021. JEMs were developed from 41,718 patients with occupational information and screen and sedentary times.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) ranks third in cancer-related deaths globally. Despite treatment advances, high post-hepatectomy recurrence rates (RR), especially with liver fibrosis and hepatitis C virus infection, remain challenging. Key prognostic factors include vascular invasion and perioperative blood loss, impacting extrahepatic recurrence.

The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between scapula morphology and rotator cuff tears (RCT). Hundred seventeen shoulders with and 87 shoulders without RCTs were included in this retrospective study. The critical shoulder angle (CSA) and lateral acromion angle in the coronal view, and the acromial coverage angle (ACA) and coracoid and scapular spine angle (CSSA) in the sagittal view were evaluated using 3-dimensional computed tomography.

Purpose: To investigate whether the pivot-shift test reflects patient-reported outcomes 1 year after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction based on a multicentre prospective cohort study.
Methods: This study included patients who underwent primary ACL reconstruction using the hamstring tendons. The pivot-shift test grades were determined according to the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) form as 0, 1+, 2+ or 3+.

The purpose of this study was to investigate factors that influence clinical outcomes after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in patients aged ≥40 years. We studied 264 patients aged ≥40 and 154 patients aged ≤20 years who underwent ACL reconstruction at several surgical centers. A logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify factors that influenced the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) at 1 year post-ACL reconstruction.

Background: In this phase I study, we aimed to examine the safety of a triple combination (TAS-102/irinotecan/bevacizumab) therapy in patients with previously treated metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).
Methods: In the TAS-102 dose-escalation phase, we determined dose-limiting toxicity (DLT), estimated the maximum tolerated dose (MTD), and determined the recommended dose (RD); in the expansion phase, we evaluated safety. The RD was administered in advance for 10 patients.

We analyzed the intraoperative kinematics of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) using a navigation system to investigate the influence of different inserts on kinematics. This was a retrospective observational study. The Vanguard individualized design (33 patients, 33 knees) XP and anterior-stabilized (AS) inserts were used in TKA for osteoarthritis.

Purpose: Adjuvant chemotherapy is recommended following colorectal cancer resection based on risk of recurrence. In older patients, treatment decisions should consider recurrence rates and tolerability, as well as functional prognosis, residual disease, and social factors. This study aims to investigate factors, including social background, influencing implementation of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in older patients undergoing curative resection for colorectal cancer.

Background/purpose: The effect of direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence after curative hepatectomy remains uncertain. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the effect of sustained virological response (SVR) with DAAs or interferon (IFN) therapy on recurrence and overall survival (OS) after hepatectomy.
Methods: We enrolled 593 patients who underwent curative resections between January 2010 and December 2017.

Background: Few reports exist on the long-term outcomes of midshaft clavicle fracture conservative treatments. Therefore, this study investigated the long-term outcome of this treatment in patients with midshaft clavicle fractures.
Methods: Patients were treated conservatively for midshaft clavicle fractures with a figure-of-eight bandage between 10 and 30 years ago.
