Objective: To assess differences in clinical presentation and illness impact in men and women presenting with urologic chronic pelvic pain syndrome (UCPPS) and between men diagnosed with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) or chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS).

Methods: 356 men and 605 women from six sites across the United States were assessed using a comprehensive set of demographic, symptom, and illness impact measures. Multivariable regression analyses examined differences between men and women and between men previously diagnosed with CP/CPPS or IC/BPS.

Chronic bacterial prostatitis is generally difficult to treat. It may involve multiple courses of antibiotics and may be difficult to eradicate with high rates of recurrence. We present the case of a 33-year-old male patient with a previous history of renal tract calculi, stent insertions, and perinephric abscess with percutaneous drainage, which then led to a right nephrectomy.

Background: No authoritative books or guidelines are currently available for revealing the interrelationships of prostatitis, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and prostate cancer (PCa). Moreover, no consensus on this issue has been reached among previously published epidemiological studies or meta-analyses.

Purpose: We first took advantage of Mendelian randomization to clarify this issue and provide clinical implications for these patients' populations.

Objective: To examine whether antimicrobial prophylaxis based on screening rectal cultures using selective media prevented acute bacterial prostatitis following transrectal prostate biopsy (TRPB).

Methods: In this multicenter, randomized controlled trial, we enrolled 403 patients undergoing TRPB with low risks of infectious complications. Patients were randomized into a cultured group (CG) or no cultured group (NCG).

Observational studies indicate that the risk of prostatitis in sleep apnea patients is higher than those without sleep apnea. However, the causal relationships remain to be determined. This study aims to investigate the causal relationships of sleep apnea on prostatitis using Mendelian randomization (MR).

A 44-year-old healthy Caucasian gentleman presented with fevers and right lower quadrant pain. He had mildly elevated inflammatory markers and computed tomography demonstrated cystic enlargement of the right seminal vesicle concerning for seminal vesicle abscess (SVA). SVA is a rare diagnosis and generally requires drainage for adequate source control.

Background And Objective: Chronic prostatitis (CP) is a condition markered by persistent prostate inflammation, yet the specific cytokines driving its progression remain largely undefined. This study aims to identify key cytokines involved in CP and investigate their role in driving inflammatory responses through mechanistic and therapeutic exploration.

Methods: A 48-cytokine panel test was conducted to compare the plasma cytokine profiles between participants with CP-like symptoms (CP-LS) and healthy controls.

Objectives: The objective of this study is to evaluate our initial experience with contact laser vaporization of the prostate (CVP) using the new type of fiber for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 43 patients in whom CVP was performed using the new type of fiber from October 2020 to December 2021 at our institution. Total International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), IPSS voiding, IPSS storage, IPSS postmicturition, quality of life (QOL) index, maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax), and postvoid residual urine (PVR) were evaluated preoperatively and at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months postoperatively.

Background: Pyroptosis has been implicated in the progression of chronic prostatitis (CP)/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS).

Objectives: The present study was performed to explore the diagnostic value of the levels of the pyroptosis-related protein nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain, leucine-rich repeat and pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome in the expressed prostatic secretions (EPS) of patients with CP.

Material And Methods: A total of 167 CP patients, including 85 National Institutes of Health (NIH)-IIIA CP patients and 82 NIH-IIIB CP patients, as well as 80 benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients and 80 healthy controls, were enrolled.

The long-term effects of low-dose radiation exposure are a topic that has been lightly touched on in medical literature. We present a case of a 66-year-old male, who grew up near uranium mines, with several pathologies that are believed to be well explained by his chronic exposure to low-dose radiation. We postulate that screening for etiologies with known associations with radiation may help avoid long-term complications in at-risk populations.

Department of Urology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China; Institute of Urology, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China; Anhui Province Key Laboratory of Urological and Andrological Diseases Research and Medical Transformation, Anhui Medical University, Hefei, China. Electronic address:

Chronic prostatitis and Pelvic Pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease characterized by pelvic or perineal pain and infiltration of inflammatory cells in the prostate. C-X-C chemokine receptor type 7 (CXCR7) is an atypical chemokine receptor that has been shown to play a key role in inflammatory processes in prostate cancer. However, the role of CXCR7 in autoimmune prostate and immune regulation in CP/CPPS along with the mechanism of action for CXCR7 remains unclear.

The escalating use and legalization of cannabis (marijuana) in the United States reflect shifting societal attitudes and growing awareness of its potential therapeutic benefits. Historically viewed as a harmful psychoactive substance, contemporary research has shown the intricate pharmacology of cannabis, with its diverse array of cannabinoids and their interactions with the endocannabinoid system. Among these cannabinoids, Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol is the primary psychoactive component, characterized by its activation of cannabinoid receptors.

Sulfamerazine (SMR) is a drug used as an antibacterial agent in the treatment of some pathologies, such as bronchitis, prostatitis and urinary tract infections. Although this drug was developed in 1945 and, due to its toxicity, was partially displaced by penicillin, due to the current problem of bacterial resistance, compounds such as SMR have regained validity. In this context, the thermodynamic study of SMR in cosolvent mixtures of acetonitrile (MeCN) + ethanol (EtOH) at nine temperatures (278.

A prostate abscess is a rare complication of prostatitis, typically observed in patients with conditions such as immunodeficiency, diabetes, urinary tract abnormalities, and chronic indwelling catheters. We present a 60-year-old patient, admitted to the hospital presenting progressively with dysuria for more than 1 year, accompanied by frequent urination, urgent pain, and urinary retention, intermittent fever for 20 days. A multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) scan of the abdomen/pelvis showed a prostatic abscess.

Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome is a prevalent condition affecting the male urinary system. The urinary dysfunction resulting from this disorder has a direct or indirect impact on the patient's quality of life. Recent studies have suggested that organ cross-sensitization between the prostate and bladder may elucidate this phenomenon; however, the specific molecular mechanisms remain unclear.
