Antimicrobial resistance is an increasing global problem and complicates successful treatments of bacterial infections in animals and humans. We conducted a longitudinal study in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to compare the occurrence of ESBL-producing ( in three conventional and four organic pig farms. ESBL-positive , especially of the CTX-M type, were found in all fattening farms, confirming that antimicrobial resistance is widespread in pig fattening and affects both conventional and organic farms.

A variety of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) phenotypes are tightly linked to changes in the cardiac energy metabolism that can lead to a loss of metabolic flexibility and to unfavorable clinical outcomes. We conducted an association analysis of 31 ASCVD phenotypes and 97 whole blood amino acids, acylcarnitines and derived ratios in the LIFE-Adult ( = 9646) and LIFE-Heart ( = 5860) studies, respectively. In addition to hundreds of significant associations, a total of 62 associations of six phenotypes were found in both studies.

This paper seeks to identify causal factors constraining the diachronic dynamics of particular morphosyntactic categories of Slavic. It is suggested that the modern inventory of Slavic languages is not a result of accumulation of historically accidental changes and non-changes. Instead, it is argued that macro-areal pressures constrained by the geographic location and the particular language-contact configuration determine the selection of inherited properties for either retention or loss and, subsequently, innovation.

Various electrode materials are considered for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) and one important prerequisite for developments of SIBs is a detailed understanding about charge storage mechanisms. Herein, we present a rigorous study about Na storage properties of ultra-small FeS nanoparticles, synthesized applying a solvothermal route, which exhibit a very good electrochemical performance as anode material for SIBs. A closer look into electrochemical reaction pathways on the nanoscale, utilizing synchrotron-based X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption techniques, reveals a complicated conversion mechanism.

This review focuses upon the pragmatic diagnostic approach of suspicious B cell infiltrations in the skin and lists the necessary histopathological and molecular tools for a thorough work-up. We start with the description of different histopathological patterns of cutaneous B cell infiltrations and recommend pattern-dependent immunohistochemical staining algorithms for further differential diagnosis. A summarised description of the current World Health Organisation (WHO) subtypes of primary cutaneous B cell lymphomas highlighting their most relevant clinical, histopathological and molecular features is included.

Background & Aims: Interleukin-26 (IL-26) is a proinflammatory cytokine that has properties atypical for a cytokine, such as direct antibacterial activity and DNA-binding capacity. We previously observed an accumulation of IL-26 in fibrotic and inflammatory lesions in the livers of patients with chronic HCV infection and showed that infiltrating CD3 lymphocytes were the principal source of IL-26. Surprisingly, IL-26 was also detected in the cytoplasm of hepatocytes from HCV-infected patients, even though these cells do not produce IL-26, even when infected with HCV.

Time-restricted eating is a promising dietary strategy for weight loss, glucose and lipid metabolism improvements, and overall well-being. However, human studies demonstrated contradictory results for the restriction of food intake to the beginning (early TRE, eTRE) or to the end of the day (late TRE, lTRE) suggesting that more carefully controlled studies are needed. The aim of the ChronoFast trial study is to determine whether eTRE or lTRE is a better dietary approach to improve cardiometabolic health upon minimized calorie deficits and nearly stable body weight.
