Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a distinct subtype of B-cell lymphoma and commonly used induction immunochemotherapies include the anti-CD20 antibody rituximab. However, efficacy data for rituximab regarding overall survival (OS) in first line MCL therapy remain conflicting.We report long-term outcomes of a pooled trials analysis comparing Cyclophosphamide, Doxorubicine, Vincristine, Prednisone (CHOP) to R-CHOP in MCL to confirm efficacy on failure free survival (FFS) and OS in relevant subgroups.

Background: Real-world walking speed (RWS) measured using wearable devices has the potential to complement the Movement Disorder Society-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS III) for motor assessment in Parkinson's disease (PD).
Objective: Explore cross-sectional and longitudinal differences in RWS between PD and older adults (OAs), and whether RWS was related to motor disease severity cross-sectionally, and if MDS-UPDRS III was related to RWS, longitudinally.
Methods: 88 PD and 111 OA participants from ICICLE-GAIT (UK) were included.

Background: Characterizations based on anatomically realistic phantoms are highly effective to perform accurate technical validation of imaging systems. Specifically for photoacoustic imaging (PAI), although a variety of phantom models with simplified geometries are reported, an unmet need still exists to establish morphologically realistic heterogeneous pre-clinical phantoms. So the development of a mouse-mimicking phantom can reduce the use of animals for the validation and standardization studies of pre-clinical PAI systems and thus eventually translate the PAI technology to clinical research.

Together with impaired mucociliary clearance, lung disease in cystic fibrosis (CF) is driven by dysregulation of innate and adaptive immunity caused by dysfunctional CFTR (Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator), leading to airway infection and hyperinflamma-tion. The highly effective CFTR modulator therapy (HEMT) elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) generates substantial improvements in clinical outcomes of people with CF (pwCF) by restoration of CFTR activity. Aberrant immune responses of lymphocytes due to CFTR dysfunction has been described in the past, but not the effects of CFTR restoration by HEMT on these cells.

Zinc oxide (ZnO) tetrapods as microparticles with nanostructured surfaces show peculiar physical properties and anti-infective activities. The aim of this study was to investigate the antibacterial and bactericidal properties of ZnO tetrapods in comparison to spherical, unstructured ZnO particles. Additionally, killing rates of either methylene blue-treated or untreated tetrapods and spherical ZnO particles for Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria species were determined.

The phase width of the copper hydroxycarbonate malachite, CuCO(OH), upon substitution with magnesium has been studied in detail. In extension of a previous study on amorphous precursors, the introduction of a hydrothermal aging step allowed the retrieval of crystalline hydroxycarbonate samples with up to 37 atom % Mg (metal content) that are suitable candidates as precursors to Cu/MgO catalysts for CO hydrogenation. Simultaneous refinements of X-ray powder diffraction and pair distribution function (PDF) data as well as complementary spectroscopic insight (X-ray absorption and infrared spectroscopy) revealed that samples with up to 18 atom % Mg are phase-pure magnesian malachites but the magnesium content can be increased beyond this threshold when mcguinnessite (CuMgCO(OH)) is accepted as a side phase.

The aim of the current experimental study was to comparatively assess the surface alterations in titanium and titanium-zirconium alloy implants in terms of thread pitch topography after irradiation with an Er:YAG laser, which is recommended in the literature for its sterilizing effect in the treatment of contaminated implant surfaces. Roxolid and SLA (Sand-blasted, Large-grit, Acid-etched) implants from Straumann company with the same macro topography were investigated. The surface treatment was carried out using a wavelength of 2940 nm, 60 s irradiation time, a frequency of 10 Hz, and energies between 120 mJ and 250 mJ.

Objective: To examine concentrations of circulating antibodies targeting C3a and C5a complement receptors in antineutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) and analyze their association with disease activity.
Methods: Concentrations of antibodies against C3a and C5a complement receptors (anti-C3aR and anti-C5aR) and plasma complement fragments C3a and C5a were determined in patients with AAV (n = 110; granulomatosis with polyangiitis [GPA; n = 82] or microscopic polyangiitis [MPA; n = 28]), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients as disease controls (n = 36), and healthy donors (n = 220). C3aR and C5aR expression by circulating neutrophils, monocytes, and T cells was analyzed using flow cytometry.

We describe here the results of a multidisciplinary study on an infant mummy from 16th century Upper Austria buried in the crypt of the family of the Counts of Starhemberg. The macroscopic-anthropological, radiological (whole-body CT scan), histological (skin tissue), and radiocarbon isotope investigations suggested a male infant of 10-18 months' age, most likely dying between 1550 and 1635 CE (probably Reichard Wilhelm, 1625-1626 CE), that presented with evidence of metabolic bone disease with significant bilateral flaring of costochondral joints resembling "rachitic rosary" of the ribs, along with straight long bones and lack of fractures or subperiosteal bleeding residues. Although incompletely developed, the osteopathology points toward rickets, without upper or lower extremities long bone deformation.
