Background: In PreventIon of CArdiovascular Events in Ischaemic Stroke Patients with High Risk of Cerebral HaemOrrhage (PICASSO), cilostazol versus aspirin was comparable for the end points of cerebral hemorrhage and major vascular events. However, underlying hemorrhage-prone lesions could modify the treatment effect.
Aims: We explored whether the safety and efficacy of cilostazol versus aspirin would differ between hemorrhage-prone lesions (multiple cerebral microbleeds vs.

Cytochrome (Cyt) is an essential protein in the process of methanol oxidation in methylotrophs. It receives an electron from the pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) cofactor of methanol dehydrogenase (MDH) to produce formaldehyde. The direct electron transfer mechanism between Cyt and MDH remains unknown due to the lack of structural information.

Background: Epidemiologic studies have suggested that elevated concentrations of particulate matter (PM) are strongly associated with an increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, including arrhythmia. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which PM exposure causes arrhythmia and the component that is mainly responsible for this adverse effect remains to be established. In this study, the arrhythmogenicity of mobilized organic matter from two different types of PM collected during summer (SPM) and winter (WPM) seasons in the Seoul metropolitan area was evaluated.

Techniques used for the regulation of gene expression facilitate studies of gene function and treatment of diseases via gene therapy. Many tools have been developed for the regulation of gene expression in mammalian cells. The Lac operon system induced with isopropyl β-D-1- thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG) is one of the employed inducible systems.

Background: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) amyloid-β1-42 (Aβ1-42), total tau protein (t-Tau), and phosphorylated Tau (p-Tau) are ATN biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and reflect pathogenic changes in the brain. CSF biomarkers of AD are considered for inclusion in the diagnostic criteria for research and clinical purposes to reduce the uncertainty of clinical diagnosis and to distinguish among AD stages.
Objective: This study aims to compare two commercially available analytical platforms with respect to accuracy and the potential for early diagnosis of AD.

Background: Lithium is primarily used to treat bipolar disorder and is known to cause several acute neurological complications. Reversible splenial lesions (RSLs) may be evident in antiepileptic drug toxicity or withdrawal, infections, and other phenomena. We report two cases of RSL presenting as neuroleptic malignant syndrome-like symptoms (NMSLS) with lithium associated neurotoxicity.

The development of treatment for neurodegenerative diseases (NDs) such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is facing medical challenges due to the increasingly aging population. However, some pharmaceutical companies have ceased the development of therapeutics for NDs, and no new treatments for NDs have been established during the last decade. The relationship between ND pathogenesis and risk factors has not been completely elucidated.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is vulnerable to fracture, and the missed diagnosis can lead to neurological deterioration. Herein, we present the conus medullaris syndrome due to aggravation of the missed spinal fracture in an 85-year-old woman with AS who underwent hip surgery. She underwent osteosynthesis in a supine position with supports under her shoulders and head due to spine deformity with AS, but was fully supine without supports after surgery.

Background/aim: We investigated the clinical role of the molecular targets, APEX1 and Jagged-1, and the Apex1 - Jagged-1 cascade in gastric cancer cells.
Materials And Methods: We used 6 human gastric cancer cell lines (SNU-1, SNU-5, SNU-16, NCI-N87, KATO- III and AGS), and demonstrated the chemosensitivity of APEX1 and Jagged-1 through the MTT assay and immunoblotting. Tumor growth was assayed following cisplatin and 5-FU treatment using a xenograft model injected with KATO-III cells.

We investigated whether there was an annual change in outcomes in patients who received the thrombolytic therapy or endovascular treatment (EVT) in Korea. This analysis was performed using data from a nationwide multicenter registry for exploring the selection criteria of patients who would benefit from reperfusion therapies in Korea. We compared the annual changes in the modified Rankin scale (mRS) at discharge and after 90 days and the achievement of successful recanalization from 2012 to 2017.

Scavenger receptors typically bind to multiple ligands on a cell surface, including endogenous and modified host-derived molecules and microbial pathogens. They promote the elimination of degraded or harmful substances such as non-self or altered-self targets through endocytosis, phagocytosis, and adhesion. Currently, scavenger receptors are subdivided into eight classes based on several variations in their sequences due to alternative splicing.

Delivering biomolecules, such as antibodies, proteins, and peptides, to the cytosol is an important and challenging aspect of drug development and chemical biology. Polyarginine-a well-known cell-penetrating peptide (CPP)-is capable of exploiting its positive charge and guanidium groups to carry a fused cargo into the cytosol. However, the precise mechanism by which this occurs remains ambiguous.

Protein S-palmitoylation, the covalent lipid modification of the side chain of Cys residues with the 16‑carbon fatty acid palmitate, is the most common acylation, and it enhances the membrane stability of ion channels. This post-translational modification (PTM) determines a functional mechanism of ion channel life cycle from maturation and membrane trafficking to localization. Especially, neurodevelopment is regulated by balancing the level of synaptic protein palmitoylation/depalmitoylation.

Previous studies including ours have demonstrated a critical function of the transcription factor ETV2 (ets variant 2; also known as ER71) in determining the fate of cardiovascular lineage development. However, the underlying mechanisms of ETV2 function remain largely unknown. In this study, we demonstrated the novel function of the miR (micro RNA)-126-MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) pathway in ETV2-mediated FLK1 (fetal liver kinase 1; also known as VEGFR2) cell generation from the mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs).
