Background: "Primary papillary epithelial tumor of the sella (PPETS)" is a recently described rare tumor entity of the central nervous system (CNS) with stereotypic location in the sella. Comprehensive molecular investigations and epigenetic profiles of PPETS have not been performed to date.
Methods: We report a comprehensive clinical, histopathologic, and molecular assessment of 5 PPETS cases in comparison with a cohort composed of 7 choroid plexus papilloma (CPP), 7 central neurocytoma (CN), 15 posterior pituitary tumor (PPT) including 4 pituicytoma, 6 granular cell tumors of the sellar region (GCT), and 5 spindle cell oncocytoma.

Atypical choroid plexus papilloma is classified as WHO (World Health Organization) Grade II subtype of choroid plexus tumor, and it has intermediate pathological features, prognosis, and clinical outcome rates between choroid plexus papilloma and choroid plexus carcinoma. These tumors are more common in children compared with adults and are usually located in the lateral ventricles. We present a case of an adult with atypical choroid plexus papilloma located in the infratentorial region.

The choroid plexus (CP) is part of the blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier (BCSFB) and was recently described as an important component of the circadian clock system. It is the principal source of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and responsible for the synthesis and secretion of various neuroprotective peptides including those involved in amyloid-β (Aβ) transport/degradation, contributing to Aβ homeostasis. Inadequate Aβ metabolic clearance and transport across the BCSFB have been associated with circadian dysfunctions in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients.

We present an interesting report of a 5-month-old infant with epileptic spasms and developmental delay who presented with non-isolated ventriculomegaly in utero and whose brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed right ventricular choroid plexus papilloma (CPP). The epileptic spasms persisted even with the use of antiepileptic therapies but was apparently cured after the removal of a CPP.

Choroid plexus, located in brain ventricles, is the site of blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier that contains endothelial cells and an epithelial monolayer separated by stroma. We established a two-cell-type model of the human choroid plexus consisting of immortalized endothelial cells (iHCPEnC) and epithelial papilloma (HIBCPP) cells grown on opposite sides of filter supports. In this protocol, we describe the preparation of this model, the measurement of transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER), and immunofluorescence imaging-based analysis to determine the barrier function.

Surgical removal of tumors of the atrium is challenging due to their deep location, vascularization, and to their complex three-dimensional relationships with the highly functional white matter fibers of the region. To assess the feasibility and the effectiveness of the ipsilateral interhemispheric transprecuneus approach (IITA) for tumors involving the atrium and the posterior third of the temporal horn, a retrospective chart review of all patients who had undergone a surgical treatment for intraventricular tumors between January 2008 and January 2017 was performed, and the step-by-step approach is described. Ten patients affected by lesions of the atrium of the lateral ventricle underwent surgical treatment, seven of which were approached through the IITA.

Objective: To investigate the clinical experience and application value of endoscopic resection of lesions in and around the third ventricle using a transcortical expanded transforaminal transvenous transchoroidal approach with an endoport.
Methods: Clinical data and follow-up results of seven patients who underwent the removal of lesions in the third ventricle and its adjacent area with an endoport-guided endoscopic system from January 2018 to December 2020 in the Department of Neurosurgery, Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University, were analyzed retrospectively. Two other patients from the Affiliated Pediatric Hospital of Fudan University and the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University, respectively, were included in the analysis.

Background: The surgical resection of the large fourth ventricle choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) is complicated, where the challenge is to minimize the impairment of the vermis and the brainstem and restore the cerebrospinal fluid circulation.
Method: We report a case of large CPP that wholly occluded the fourth ventricle, extended to the Luschka foramen, and underwent radical resection via telovelar approach. The intraoperative endoscope was applied to inspect the tumor residue and the aqueduct's opening.

In this study, atypical choroid plexus papilloma was treated with high-dose rapamycin for 17 days preoperatively in an infant. Rapamycin significantly reduced the blood supply to the tumor while reducing the tumor volume, and most of the tumor was resected successfully. However, the infant developed hyperglycemia related to the rapamycin dose, which was effectively controlled by adjusting the dose and applying insulin.

Atypical choroid plexus papilloma (aCPP) is very rarely seen in adults. Here, we present the case of a 47-year-old male with several months of headache, nausea, dizziness, and imbalance who was found to have an enhancing mass of the fourth ventricle with imaging findings suggestive of likely ependymoma. The patient underwent suboccipital craniotomy with C1 laminectomy and telovelar approach for gross-total resection of the lesion, with final pathology demonstrating WHO grade II aCPP.
