Article Synopsis
  • Delayed healing in diabetic wounds is primarily due to a dysfunctional microenvironment caused by high blood sugar and ongoing inflammation.
  • Topical microenvironment modulation, particularly using microneedles, offers a promising solution to enhance healing by delivering therapeutic agents directly to the wound's surface.
  • A hybrid microneedle has been developed incorporating carvacrol, cyclodextrin, mesoporous ceria nanoparticles, and hyaluronate, which improves healing by providing antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects to accelerate tissue reconstruction processes like cell proliferation and angiogenesis.

Up to half of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage, for which effective treatment options are lacking, resulting in a poor prognosis. Over the past few years, the combination of immune checkpoint inhibitors and anti-angiogenic targeted therapy has proven highly efficacious in treating advanced HCC, significantly extending patients' survival and providing a potential for sequential curative surgery. After sequential curative hepatectomy or liver transplantation following conversion therapy, patients can receive long-term survival benefits.

Background: Early detection of anxiety symptoms can support early intervention and may help reduce the burden of disease in later life in the elderly with abdominal obesity, thereby increasing the chances of healthy aging. The objective of this research is to formulate and validate a predictive model that forecasts the probability of developing anxiety symptoms in elderly Chinese individuals with abdominal obesity.

Method: This research's model development and internal validation encompassed 2,427 participants from the 2017-2018 Study of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS).

We aimed to investigate the mechanism of high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) in the accelerated fracture healing process during Traumatic brain injury (TBI). The lateral ventricles of mice in the TBI model group were injected with adenovirus-packaged short hairpin RNA (shRNA)-HMGB1 or overexpressing (ov)-HMGB1 vector. We found HMGB1 levels were higher in bone tissue at the fracture end of TBI combined with fracture model mice.

Ultrasonics

December 2024

Department of Biomedical Engineering, School of Life Health Information Science and Engineering, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Chongqing, People's Republic of China; Postdoctoral Workstation of Chongqing General Hospital, Chongqing, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Submicron ultrasound contrast agents hold great potential to extend the bubble-mediated theranostics beyond the vasculature, but their acoustic response and the interaction effects between them remain poorly understood. This study set out to numerically examine the interaction effects on the subharmonic oscillations of nanobubbles and the resultant acoustic emissions under subharmonic resonance conditions. Results showed that a negative correlation between bubble size and subharmonic resonance frequency is readily obtained from the radius response curves.

Article Synopsis
  • Postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks are serious complications that can occur after endoscopic skull base surgery, prompting the need for effective treatment strategies.
  • This study examines a multilayered membrane reconstruction method used in 15 patients to address high-flow intraoperative CSF leaks during expanded endoscopic endonasal tumor resections from January 2019 to June 2023.
  • The results showed no cases of postoperative CSF leakage or related complications after a median follow-up of 13 months, suggesting this technique may be a reliable option for watertight closure and indicating a need for further research.
