This study aims to investigate the factors affecting the efficacy of first oral prophylaxis in patients with chronic migraine (CM) and to assess patient compliance with their medication regimens. To identify the therapeutic effect of prevention medication in 740 patients with newly diagnosed CM that did not receive any preventive treatments after 4 weeks in an open-label prospective study with retrospective baseline from January 2016 to January 2018, the factors that may affect the outcomes of preventive treatment were analyzed based on the demographic characteristics, migraine characteristics, family history of headache, and history of medication overuse. Moreover, the patients were followed up to evaluate their compliance with and the side effects of the medication at 4 weeks and at 12 weeks.

Gefitinib is an epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR TKI) that has been demonstrated to be clinically useful for the treatment of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, ~50% of patients do not respond to EGFR TKI treatment through the emergence of mutations, such as T790M. Therefore, it is important to determine which patients are eligible for treatment with gefitinib.

Transplanted Schwann cells have the potential to serve as a support for regenerating neurites after spinal cord injury. However, implanted Schwann cells die off rapidly once transplanted partly owing to the absence of a proper matrix support, with a glia scar and a cavity being present instead at the injury site. For this report, we evaluated aligned electrospun poly(methyl methacrylate) nanofibers as a Schwann cell-loading scaffold in vitro.

Objective: To determine the efficacy and safety of telbivudine for blocking intrauterine transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in pregnant women with high-load HBV DNA.
Methods: Women in general good health and pragnant were enrolled for study between the ages of 20 to 40 year-old, with a diagnosis of HBV infection with high-load HBV DNA level (≥1*10(6) IU/ml). According to each participant's willingness, the women were divided into a telbivudine treatment group (82 women) and an untreated control group (75 women).

Objective: To investigate the relationship between IL-27 gene polymorphism and the susceptibility of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in a Chinese Hans population.
Methods: 310 RA patients and 310 healthy controls were examined in this study. Polymerase chain reaction- restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technique was used in the detection of the genotype in three loci of IL-27 gene (-964A/G, 2905T/G, and 4730T/C).

Drug-eluting stents (DES) have become more widely used by cardiologists than bare metal stents (BMS) because of their better ability to control restenosis. However, recognized negative events, particularly including delayed or incomplete endothelialization and late stent thrombosis, have caused concerns over the long-term safety of DES. Although stent-based drug delivery can facilitate a drug's release directly to the restenosis site, a burst of drug release can seriously affect the pharmacological action and is a major factor accounting for adverse effects.

Fatigue and diarrhea are the most frequent adverse effects of pelvic radiotherapy, while their etiologies are largely unknown. The aim of this study is to investigate the correlations between fatigue, diarrhea, and alterations in gut microbiota induced by pelvic radiotherapy. During the 5-week treatment of pelvic radiotherapy in 11 cancer patients, the general fatigue score significantly increased and was more prominent in the patients with diarrhea.

Background: The increasing emergence of clinical infections caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) challenges existing therapeutic options and highlights the need to develop novel treatment strategies. The ftsZ gene is essential to bacterial cell division.
Methods: In this study, two antisense peptide nucleic acids (PNAs) conjugated to a cell-penetrating peptide were used to inhibit the growth of MRSA.

Pneumothorax can occur in several situations such as; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) where emphysema is observed or due to a biopsy for malignancy suspicion. In any case it is a dangerous situation that requires immediate attention and treatment. Pneumothorax can be divided in primary and secondary.

Iatrogenic diversion of the inferior vena cava (IVC) into the left atrium (LA) is usually reported as a rare complication following large posteroinferior atrial septal defect (ASD) surgery. It may cause acute or chronic hypoxemia, and other potentially life-threatening complications such as stroke. We present a case in which the ASD patch straddled the IVC entrance diagnosed immediately by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) during the period of patient separated from cardiopulmonary bypass, avoiding the related complications.

Endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) contribute to neovascularization and vascular repair, and may exert a beneficial effect on the clinical outcome of sepsis. Osteoblasts act as a component of "niche" in bone marrow, which provides a nest for stem/progenitor cells and are involved in the formation and maintenance of stem/progenitor cells. Fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) can regulate osteoblast activity and influence bone mass.

Invasive aspergillosis is a life-threatening infection in immunocompromised patients, and treating these infections at an early stage is often crucial for a favorable outcome. Early diagnosis, however, remains challenging. We performed a retrospective comparison of three methods: real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR), nucleic acid sequence-based amplification (NASBA), and galactomannan enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (GM-ELISA); these detect circulating Aspergillus DNA, RNA, and galactomannan, respectively.

Objective: Cancer stromal fibroblasts are important members of the cancer microenvironment. In this study, we determined the effect of sunitinib, a small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor, on the primary human colonic fibroblasts.
Methods: Cell cycle analysis and cell proliferation assays were performed to evaluate the inhibitory effect of sunitinib in vitro.

The present study aimed to investigate the possible mechanism(s) through which lycopene inhibits neointimal hyperplasia in restenosis models. A total of 32 white rabbits were randomly divided into the following four groups: A sham group, a model group, a model group treated with apocynin and a model group treated with lycopene. Immunohistochemistry and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to detect the carotid structures in these groups.

Investigations of Treg/Th17 imbalance associated with cardiovascular complications in hemodialysis are limited. The aim of this study was to examine the association between Treg/Th17 balance and cardiovascular comorbidity in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). Uremic patients included in the present study were divided into three groups: the WHD group comprising 30 patients with no cardiovascular complications or maintenance hemodialysis (MHD), the MHD1 group comprising 36 patients presenting with cardiovascular complications during MHD, and the MHD2 group comprising 30 patients with a lack of cardiovascular complications during MHD.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 1 (MAP2K1/MEK1) as well as Yes-associated protein (YAP), the downstream effector of Hippo signaling pathway, is linked to hepatocarcinogenesis. However, little is known about whether and how MEK1 interacts with YAP. In this study, we find that MEK1-YAP interaction is critical for liver cancer cell proliferation and maintenance of transformed phenotypes both in vitro and in vivo.

Objectives: We compared the correlation of regulatory T cell (Treg) and Th17 cell function disequilibrium with calcification in uremic patients on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) with healthy controls, and investigated if their influence possibly increased the development and outcome of cardiovascular complications in uremic patients after MHD.
Methods: The extent of coronary artery calcification was assessed by coronary artery calcification scoring (CACS) in uremic patients with and without adverse cardiovascular events after MHD (MHD group 1 vs. MHD group 2, respectively).
