Degenerative disc disease (DDD) is one of the most common skeletal disorders affecting aged populations. DDD is the leading cause of low back/neck pain, resulting in disability and huge socioeconomic burdens. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying DDD initiation and progression remain poorly understood.

Methods: A total of 110 patients who underwent lumbar magnetic resonance imaging and dual X-ray absorptiometry examinations were collected and divided into two groups according bone mineral density: osteoporotic group (OP) and non-osteoporotic group (non-OP). The variation trends of T1 (longitudinal relaxation time), T2 (transverse relaxation time) and BMD (bone mineral density) with the increase of age, and the correlation of T1 and T2 with BMD were examined by establishing a clinical mathematical model.

Transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS) has attracted much attention in the pharmaceutical technology area. However, the current methods are difficult to ensure penetration efficiency, controllability, and safety in the dermis, so its widespread clinical use has been limited. This work proposes an ultrasound-controlled monodisperse lipid vesicles (U-CMLVs) hydrogel dressing, which combines with ultrasound to form TDDS.

Sensitive and specific analysis of extracellular vesicles (EVs) offers a promising minimally invasive way to identify malignant pulmonary nodules from benign lesions. However, accurate analysis of EVs is subject to free target proteins in blood samples, which compromises the clinical diagnosis value of EVs. Here a DNA-guided extracellular-vesicle metallization (DEVM) strategy is described for ultrasensitive and specific analysis of EV protein biomarkers and classification of pulmonary nodules.

Retiform purpura-like lesions are rarely seen clinically and can be induced by cutaneous vascular wall damage or a lumen-occlusive disease arising from a broad range of triggers, including infection, drugs, emboli, cryoglobulinemia, disseminated intravascular coagulation, and autoimmune disease. Here, we present the case of a patient suffering from both systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), with retiform purpura as the first lesion and lacking other typical symptoms of SLE, such as photosensitivity, malar rash, ulceration of the mouth and nose, alopecia, and joint pain.

Background: Hemorrhage, in particular noncompressible hemorrhage, is the leading cause of casualties in combat trauma and civilian trauma. Although systemic agents can stop bleeding at both inaccessible and accessible injury sites, the application of systemic hemostats in clinics is strictly limited by the nontargeting ability of hemostats and their subsequent potential for thromboembolic complications.
Objectives: To engineer an anticoagulant/procoagulant self-converting and bleeding site-targeting systemic nanohemostat to rapidly control noncompressible bleeding without thrombosis risk.

Background: In China, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) for centuries.
Methods: To investigate how the TCM ShenQi (SQC) formulation differs from metformin, four rat groups, including control, model, T2DM rats treated using SQC (SQC group), and T2DM rats treated using metformin (Met group), were constructed. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between SQC and metformin groups were screened, and the co-expression modules of the DEGs were constructed based on the weighted correlation network analysis (WGCNA) method.
