Prevalence of metal implants among US adults aged 40 years and older.

Metal implants are commonly used in clinical practice. However, little is known regarding the prevalence of metal implants. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of metal implants in the United States (US) among individuals aged ≥ 40 years.

Facile synthesis of copper carbonate analog with peroxidase-like activity for colorimetric detection of isoniazid.

In this article, copper carbonate analog with good peroxidase-like activity was successfully synthesized for the first time a simple co-precipitation of CuSO▪5HO and NaCO. The obtained copper carbonate analog exhibited excellent intrinsic peroxidase-like activity towards a classical peroxidase substrate of 3, 3', 5, 5' -tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (HO) under an acidic environment. The study of the catalytic mechanism confirmed that the hydroxyl radical produced from the decomposition of HO is the main reactive oxygen species responsible for the catalytic oxidation of TMB to oxTMB.

Femoral neck system versus dynamic hip screw for fixation of femoral neck fracture in the adult: a meta-analysis.

Objective: To determine the efficacy of femoral neck system compared to dynamic hip screws in treating femoral neck fractures.

Methods: The systematic review was conducted from January to March 2023, and comprised literature search on PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Ovid, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang databases for relevant studies published up to March 1, 2023. Study data as well as demographic and outcome parameters related to the patients were extracted, and the methodological index for non-randomised studies was used to assess the risk of bias.

Life's Essential 8 and osteoporosis in adults aged 50 years or older: data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.

Unlabelled: In this cross-sectional study, we examined the association between Life's Essential 8 (LE8) and bone mineral density (BMD) as well as osteoporosis risk among adults aged 50 and over. The findings of this study revealed that higher LE8 scores were associated with higher BMD and reduced osteoporosis risk.

The effect of harvesting the anterior half of the peroneus longus tendon on foot morphology and gait.

Background And Objectives: In anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, the strength of the graft was found to be unsatisfactory usually the anterior half of the peroneus longus tendon was taken for supplementation, but the effect on foot and ankle function and gait in the donor area is unclear. This study aims to explore the changes in the ankle and gait after using the harvested anterior half of the peroneus longus tendon as a reconstruction graft for the anterior cruciate ligament.

Methods: A total of 20 patients, 6 males and 14 females, aged 18 to 44 years, with unilateral anterior cruciate ligament injuries, underwent reconstruction using the harvested anterior half of the peroneus longus tendon as a graft between June 2021 and December 2021.

Network pharmacology analysis and experimental validation to explore the effect and mechanism of tetramethylpyrazine for spinal cord injury.

Objective: To investigate the effect and mechanism of Tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) in treating Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) using network pharmacology analysis and animal experiments.

Methods: This study was based on public databases, including PharmMapper, BATMAN-TCM, and STRING, as well as KEGG pathway analysis and other methods of network pharmacology were used to preliminarily explore the molecular mechanism of TMP in the treatment of SCI. Using a mouse SCI compression injury model, the efficacy of TMP was evaluated, and the expression of predictive targets on the PI3K/AKT and MAPK signaling pathways was measured using Western blotting and q-PCR.

A novel computed tomography-based three-column MLP classification of intertrochanteric fracture.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to introduce a novel three-dimensional computed tomography (3DCT)-based three-column classification (named "MLP classification system") of intertrochanteric fractures and evaluate its reproducibility and reliability.

Methods: From September 2020 to September 2022, a total of 258 consecutive patients (60 male, 198 female;mean age 81.3 years) with intertrochanteric fractures were included in this study.

Three-dimensional printed cast assisted screw fixation of calcaneal fractures: a prospective study.

Background: Treatment of displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures (DIACFs) with percutaneous screw fixation remains defective in some aspects. A novel three-dimensional (3D) printed cast was devised to assist screw placement. This study assessed the radiological and functional outcomes of 3D-printed cast assisted screw fixation for patients with DIACFs.

[Neuroprotective effect of tetramethylpyrazine on mice after spinal cord injury].

This study aims to investigate the neuroprotective effect of tetramethylpyrazine on mice after spinal cord injury and its mechanism. Seventy-five female C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into 5 groups, namely, a sham operation group, a model group, a tetramethylpyrazine low-dose group(25 mg·kg~(-1)), a tetramethylpyrazine medium-dose group(50 mg·kg~(-1)), and a tetramethylpyrazine high-dose group(100 mg·kg~(-1)), with 15 mice in each group. Modified Rivlin method was used to establish the mouse model of acute spinal cord injury.

Hourglass-like constriction of the anterior interosseous nerve in the left forearm: A case report.

Background: Hourglass-like constriction neuropathy is a rare neurological disorder. The main clinical manifestation is peripheral nerve injury with no apparent cause, and the pathomorphological change is an unexplained narrowing of the diseased nerve. The diagnosis and treatment of the disease are challenging and there is no accepted diagnostic or therapeutic approach.

Nonanatomical reduction of femoral neck fractures in young patients treated with femoral neck system: a retrospective cohort study.

Purpose: Negative buttress reduction should be avoided in the treatment of femoral neck fractures (FNFs) using conventional fixation. As the femoral neck system (FNS) has been recently developed and utilized widely to treat FNFs, the association of reduction quality with postoperative complications and clinical function has not been clarified. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical effect of nonanatomical reduction in young patients with FNFs treated with FNS.

Identification of copper death-associated molecular clusters and immunological profiles in rheumatoid arthritis.

Objective: An analysis of the relationship between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and copper death-related genes (CRG) was explored based on the GEO dataset.

Methods: Based on the differential gene expression profiles in the GSE93272 dataset, their relationship to CRG and immune signature were analysed. Using 232 RA samples, molecular clusters with CRG were delineated and analysed for expression and immune infiltration.

Background: IL-38, a recently discovered cytokine of IL-1 family, exerts immunoregulatory activities in multi-type inflammatory diseases. However, its expression level and underlying clinical importance for IL-38 in respiratory bacterial infections remain unknown.

Methods: Thirty-five patients with bacterial pneumonia and twenty age- and gender- matched healthy individuals were enrolled in the study to determine serum IL-38 concentrations by ELISA.

How to prophylactically alleviate postembolization syndrome following transarterial chemoembolization?: Protocol of a double blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled trial.

Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver cancer, and most patients in China are diagnosed at the intermediate or later stages, which is not suitable for the first line therapies. Transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is a commonly selected therapeutic option for intermediate and later stage HCC in China, but patients often suffer from postembolization syndrome (PES), manifesting as fever, liver area pain, nausea, vomiting, paralyzed intestinal obstruction, and abdominal pain after TACE. We try to conduct a double blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial to observe whether Chaihu Guizhi decoction (CGD), a classic traditional Chinese formula, could prophylactically alleviate the incidence of PES in HCC patients after TACE.

Efficacy of a three-day prolonged-course of multiple-dose versus a single-dose of tranexamic acid in total hip and knee arthroplasty.

Background: The application of tranexamic acid (TXA) in total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has brought momentous changes in blood management. However, the optimal regimen of TXA has not yet been identified. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of a three-day prolonged-course of multiple-dose of TXA with a single pre-operative dose of TXA in patients who undergo THA and TKA.
