J Stroke Cerebrovasc Dis

January 2025

Department of Neurology, Chongqing University Three Gorges Hospital, Wanzhou, Chongqing, 400016, China; School of Medicine, Chongqing University, Chongqing, 404010, China. Electronic address:

Background And Purpose: Statin therapy reduces the risk of ischemic stroke; however, certain studies have observed an increased incidence of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Moreover, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9(PCSK-9) inhibitors have emerged as a powerful class of lipid-lowering medications, potentially with a lower propensity for causing hemorrhagic events. To investigate this matter further, we conducted a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving statins and PCSK-9 inhibitors that reported occurrences of ICH.

Innovative equipment for lower limb muscle strength measurement: Design and application in sarcopenia screening.

Clin Biomech (Bristol)

December 2024

Department of Geriatrics, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, Sichuan, China.

Background: Grip Strength has been established as a practical and efficient method for screening and diagnosing sarcopenia. It is recognized that with advancing age, there is a more significant decline in lower limb muscle mass compared to the upper limb. However, due to the inherent complexity of assessing lower limb muscle strength compared to measuring Grip Strength, these assessments have not been universally adopted for sarcopenia screening.

Sci Rep

November 2024

Chongqing Municipality Clinical Research Center for Geriatric diseases, Chongqing University Three Gorges Hospital, Chongqing, China.

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is a reliable biomarker for various diseases, making the development of new detection methods highly significant. Herein, we report a simple and accurate dual-signal optical detection strategy for measuring ALP activity across the entire clinical range in adults. Based on this, we designed a smartphone app to eliminate the limitations of large instruments, enabling real-time field detection.

Association between apolipoprotein E gene polymorphism and early MR findings in individuals with acute intracerebral hemorrhage: A retrospective cohort analysis.

J Stroke Cerebrovasc Dis

November 2024

Department of Radiology, Chongqing University Three Gorges Hospital, Wanzhou, Chongqing, 404000, China; School of Medicine, Chongqing University, Chongqing, 404010, China. Electronic address:

Objective: The Apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene plays a significant role in the development and prognosis of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Imaging features identified within 48 h of ICH onset, particularly on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), are indicative of cerebral small vessel diseases (CSVD). Our study aimed to assess these imaging characteristics and investigate their association with the APOE gene among ICH patients.

Introduction: Atherosclerosis (AS) is considered the underlying cause of many diseases, particularly cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Inulin, a type of fructan, has shown potential in improving atherosclerosis, although there are conflicting findings. It is hypothesized that the polymerization degree of inulin may largely influence its therapeutic effectiveness.

The heightened mortality and disability rates, coupled with restricted neurological recovery post intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), have sparked considerable attention toward its treatment and results. Simultaneously, the influence of the APOE gene on ICH prognosis has been well-documented. This research aimed to explore the relationship between specific APOE alleles in the present cohort and the incidences of mortality, recurrence, and adverse prognosis, as determined by neurological function assessments in ICH patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Sarcopenia is a condition related to aging that causes a decrease in muscle mass and strength, making early diagnosis important for effective treatment.
  • The study presents a new method for screening sarcopenia using a wearable device that monitors plantar pressure through a flexible sensing array made from barium titanate thin films, which can transmit data to a smartphone via Bluetooth.
  • By analyzing data from 51 participants, the study demonstrates that dynamic plantar pressure features can effectively distinguish between sarcopenic and non-sarcopenic individuals, achieving high accuracy in screening using machine learning techniques.

Aims/hypothesis: The relationship between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome is well established. While zinc finger BED-type containing 3 (ZBED3) has been linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus and the metabolic syndrome, its role in MASLD remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the function of ZBED3 in the context of MASLD.

Nonswellable Hydrogel Patch with Tissue-Mimetic Mechanical Characteristics Remodeling In Vivo Microenvironment for Effective Adhesion Prevention.

ACS Nano

July 2024

Key Laboratory of Biorheological Science and Technology Ministry of Education, Collage of Bioengineering, Chongqing University, Chongqing 400044, China.

Postoperative adhesion is a common complication after abdominal surgery, but current clinical products have unsatisfactory therapeutic effects. Here, we present a hydrogel patch formed in a single step through dialysis. The exchange of DMSO into water facilitates hydrophobic aggregate in situ formation and the formation of hydrogen bonds within the hydrogel.

Background: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is usually recommended for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to large vessel occlusion (LVO) within the time window (6 hours after the disease onset). However, poor prognosis in acute great vascular occlusive stroke after MT, which is not an uncommon occurrence, can be attributed to an absence of appropriate postoperative monitoring. Transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound and quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) offer the advantages of fast, convenient, and bedside examinations compared with conventional imaging techniques.

From hemostasis to proliferation: Accelerating the infected wound healing through a comprehensive repair strategy based on GA/OKGM hydrogel loaded with MXene@TiO nanosheets.

Biomaterials

July 2024

Key Laboratory of Biorheological Science and Technology, Ministry of Educations, College of Bioengineering, Chongqing University, Chongqing, 400044, China. Electronic address:

The treatment of infected wounds poses a formidable challenge in clinical practice due to the detrimental effects of uncontrolled bacterial infection and excessive oxidative stress, resulting in prolonged inflammation and impaired wound healing. In this study, we presented a MXene@TiO (MT) nanosheets loaded composite hydrogel named as GA/OKGM/MT hydrogel, which was formed based on the Schiff base reaction between adipic dihydrazide modified gelatin (GA)and Oxidized Konjac Glucomannan (OKGM), as the wound dressing. During the hemostasis phase, the GA/OKGM/MT hydrogel demonstrated effective adherence to the skin, facilitating rapid hemostasis.
