Risk factors for death caused by early onset sepsis in neonates: a retrospective cohort study.

Objective: To evaluate the association between traditional laboratory findings and death, and to find risk factors for death in infants with early onset sepsis (EOS).

Study Design: This was a single-center, case-control, retrospective trial conducted between January 2020 and August 2021. Infants with EOS were enrolled and divided into two groups based on outcome before hospital discharge: non-survivors (Mortality group) and survivors (Survival group).

Background: Acute renal injury (AKI) after aortic arch reconstruction with cardiopulmonary bypass leads to injury of multiple organs and increases perioperative mortality. The study was performed to explore risk factors for AKI. We aim to develop a prediction model that can be used to accurately predict AKI through machine learning (ML).

Effects of air pollution on emergency visits for acute otitis media among children: a case-crossover study in Chongqing, China.

Background: Many epidemiological studies have demonstrated the short-term effects of air pollution on acute otitis media (AOM) in children, but few studies have explored the association between AOM and air pollution in Chinese children. This study aimed to analyze the effects of air pollution on emergency visits for AOM among children through a time-stratified case-crossover design in Chongqing, China.

Methods: The outpatient medical records of children from nine main urban districts who presented with AOM between December 22, 2018 and December 21, 2021 were collected from the Children's Hospital of Chongqing Medical University.

The main treatment for PC includes surgical treatment and nonsurgical treatment. Currently, for nonsurgically treated elderly patients, few studies have evaluated their prognostic factors.

Academic performance in children with pectus excavatum: a real-world research with propensity score matching.

Background: The optimal timing of surgery for pectus excavatum (PE) is controversial. A large proportion of children will not undergo surgery before puberty. However, untimely surgery may lead to a decline in the children's social adaptation and competitiveness because the children have already developed psychological and physiological impairments due to PE at an early age.

Develop and validate an accessible prediction model using machine learning (ML) to predict the risk of chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression (CIM) in children with Wilms' tumor (WT) before chemotherapy is administered, enabling early preventive management. A total of 1433 chemotherapy cycles in 437 children with WT who received chemotherapy in our hospital from January 2009 to March 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Demographic data, clinicopathological characteristics, hematology and blood biochemistry baseline results, and medication information were collected.

Doxycycline Hydrochloride Regulates Cytoskeletal Rearrangement and Epithelial-To-Mesenchymal Transition in Malignant Rhabdoid Tumour of the Kidney.

Objective: As a highly malignant tumour, malignant rhabdoid tumours of the kidney (MRTK) are prone to metastasis and invasion, while tumour metastasis and invasion are inseparable from matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and epithelial-mesenchymal transformation (EMT). Moreover, the key to EMT is remodelling of the cytoskeleton. Therefore, our study is aimed at investigating whether doxycycline hydrochloride (DCH), an inhibitor of MMPs, could reverse EMT in MRTK to exert an antitumour effect by regulating MMPs and the cytoskeleton.

In clinical practice, antibiotics are usually used in patients with bacterial infections, we previously showed that neonatal pneumonia promoted adult-onset asthma in mice model, while it remains unclear whether neonatal infection have long-term effects on gut microbiota. Neonatal BALB/c mice were inoculated with 5*10 CFU D39 to establish non-lethal pneumonia model.

A Web-Based Prediction Model for Cancer-Specific Survival of Elderly Patients Undergoing Surgery With Prostate Cancer: A Population-Based Study.

Super-Selective Partial Splenic Embolization for Hereditary Spherocytosis in Children: A Single-Center Retrospective Study.

Background: Hereditary spherocytosis (HS) is the most common hemolytic anemia due to erythrocyte membrane defects. Total splenectomy is the most effective treatment for moderate or severe HS. As a conservative alternative, partial splenic embolization (PSE) can preserve part of the spleen's function, thus reducing the risk of overwhelming post-splenectomy infection (OPSI) or sepsis, especially for pediatric patients.
