Survival Outcomes of Lobectomy Versus Segmentectomy in Clinical Stage I Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Meta-Analysis.

Adv Ther

July 2021

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Funing People's Hospital, No. 111 Fcheng Street Road, Funing County, Yancheng City, 224400, Jiangsu Province, China.

Introduction: The gold standard surgical therapy for patients with clinical stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is lobectomy with mediastinal lymph node dissection. Meanwhile, segmentectomy has emerged as an alternative choice with the advantage of fewer postoperative complications. The acceptance of this procedure remains controversial, and conflicting results exist in the retrospective trials.

Objectives: With the popularization of ultrasound, nerve blocks have been widely implemented in current clinical practice. Although, they have seen limited success due to their shorter duration and suboptimal analgesia. Magnesium sulfate as a local anesthetic adjuvant for peripheral nerve blocks could enhance the effects of local anesthetics.

Autophagy deficiency exacerbates acute lung injury induced by copper oxide nanoparticles.

J Nanobiotechnology

May 2021

Molecular Biology Laboratory of Respiratory Diseases, Institute of Life Sciences, Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, 400016, People's Republic of China.

Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) are one of the widely used metal nanoparticles in the industrial and commercial fields. Autophagy is an intracellular degradation system that delivers cytoplasmic constituents to the lysosome and has been linked to nanoparticles-induced toxicity. In particular, the roles of autophagy in response to CuONPs have been explored in vitro, although the conclusions are controversial.

Background: Activated microglia are polarized into the M1 or M2 phenotype. We previously reported that electroacupuncture (EA) effectively prevented nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) nuclear translocation and improved neuronal C-X-C motif 3 chemokine ligand 1 (CX3CL1) expression, repressing microglial activation by upregulating neuronal cylindromatosis (CYLD) expression in the periischemic cortex. However, the potential mechanisms are unclear.

Expression and prognostic value of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition and cancer stem cellmarkersin primary lesions and liver metastases of colorectal cancers.

Oncol Lett

July 2021

Department of Medical Oncology, Cancer Center, The State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, West China Hospital, West China Medical School, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan 610041, P.R. China.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) and epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT) markers are considered useful indicators associated with metastasis and prognosis of colorectal cancers (CRCs). However, only a few studies have focused on the expression of these useful markers in metastases. Metastasectomy is widely used in advanced CRCs, and thus the postoperative prognostic factors are worth investigating.

We hypothesized that small molecule transcriptional perturbation could be harnessed to target a cellular dependency involving protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) in the context of methylthioadenosine phosphorylase (MTAP) deletion, seen frequently in malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). Here we show, that MTAP deletion is negatively prognostic in MPM. In vitro, the off-patent antibiotic Quinacrine efficiently suppressed PRMT5 transcription, causing chromatin remodelling with reduced global histone H4 symmetrical demethylation.

Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone malignancy in children and adolescents. Inhibition of SOX9/Wnt1-mediated signaling might suppress osteosarcoma metastasis, and oleanolic acid (OA) might decrease the activity of the SOX9/Wnt1 signaling pathway. The aim of the present study was to determine the role of OA in osteosarcoma cell proliferation and invasion.

The protective effect of blood cora polysaccharides (BCP) on H9c2 rat heart cells under oxidative stress was explored with the use of a H9c2 cell oxidative stress model. The ability of BCP to scavenge 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and hydroxyl radicals and its reducing power were measured , indicating a more powerful antioxidant effect of BCP compared to a similar concentration of vitamin C. The cellular metabolic activity was tested through the MTT [3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide] assay.

A Perspective of Epigenetic Regulation in Radiotherapy.

Front Cell Dev Biol

February 2021

Chongqing Cancer Hospital, Chongqing Cancer Institute, Chongqing University Cancer Hospital, Chongqing, China.

Radiation therapy (RT) has been employed as a tumoricidal modality for more than 100 years and on 470,000 patients each year in the United States. The ionizing radiation causes genetic changes and results in cell death. However, since the biological mechanism of radiation remains unclear, there is a pressing need to understand this mechanism to improve the killing effect on tumors and reduce the side effects on normal cells.

August 2021

Chongqing Key Laboratory of Translational Research for Cancer Metastasis and Individualized Treatment, Chongqing University Cancer Hospital & Chongqing Cancer Institute, Chongqing, 400030, China.

Since the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC) are increasing in recent years, the research on the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer has attracted more and more attention. Here, our results confirmed that the mRNA expression level and proteins accumulation of TUFT1 were significantly increased in CRC tissues from late-stage CRC patients (III + IV) (p < 0.001), indicated by qPCR and IHC assay.

The present study evaluated the expression levels of nuclear factor I B (NFIB) in gastric cancer (GC) specimens and cells, and its regulatory roles were further elucidated. The expression levels of NFIB were examined in GC and paired normal specimens, and in human GC and normal gastric epithelial cells by reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR. A circular RNA (circRNA) microarray was performed to identify the novel downstream circRNA of NFIB.

Phase Separation and Histone Epigenetics in Genome Regulation.

Curr Opin Solid State Mater Sci

February 2021

Department of Bioengineering, University of California, San Diego, La Jolla, CA 92093, USA.

Liquid-liquid phase separation is increasingly recognized as a phenomenon that affects cell behavior. For example, phase separation of transcription factors and coactivators has been shown to drive efficient transcription. For many years, phase separation of intracellular components has been observed; however, only recently have researchers been able to garner functional significance from such events.
