Gemcitabine is commonly used to treat various cancer types, including human non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, even cases that initially respond rapidly commonly develop acquired resistance, limiting our ability to effectively treat advanced NSCLC. To gain insight for developing a strategy to overcome gemcitabine resistance, the present study investigated the mechanism of gemcitabine resistance in NSCLC according to the involvement of ATP-binding cassette subfamily B member 6 (ABCB6) and heme biosynthesis.

Heparanase has been identified as a universal tumor-associated antigen, but heparanase epitope peptides are difficult to recognize. Therefore, it is necessary to explore novel strategies to ensure efficient delivery to antigen-presenting cells. Here, we established a novel immunotherapy model targeting antigens to dendritic cell (DC) receptors using a combination of heparanase CD4 and CD8 T-cell epitope peptides to achieve an efficient cytotoxic T-cell response, which was associated with strong activation of DCs.

Background And Purpose: It remains uncertain whether induction chemotherapy (IC) plus concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) or CCRT plus adjuvant chemotherapy (AC) is more effective in patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (LA-NPC). This study aimed to develop and validate a joint radiomic and clinical signature (RCS) for the prognostic stratification of LA-NPCs and to identify patients who might benefit more from IC + CCRT or CCRT + AC.

Materials And Methods: Overall, 893 LA-NPC patients who received IC + CCRT or CCRT + AC were enrolled from four hospitals.

Effect of HFY06 Combined with Arabinoxylan on Reducing Lipid Accumulation in Mice Fed with High-Fat Diet.

Oxid Med Cell Longev

April 2022

Chongqing Collaborative Innovation Center for Functional Food, Chongqing Engineering Research Center of Functional Food, Chongqing Engineering Laboratory for Research and Development of Functional Food, Chongqing University of Education, Chongqing 400067, China.

In this experiment, a high-fat diet was used to induce hyperlipidemia in mice to determine the synergistic effect of AX and HFY06 on the prevention of hyperlipidemia and its potential regulatory mechanism. The results of this study showed that after the AX and HFY06 synergistic intervention, the body weight, epididymal fat index, blood lipid level, and liver function indexes of mice were improved. In addition, the synbiotics comprising AX and HFY06 increased the CAT activity in the serum of mice on a high-fat diet, reduced NO and MDA levels, and improved the body's oxidative stress.

In this work, an efficient and sensitive magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer with zein and deep eutectic solvents (ZDM-MIPs) was designed and synthesized to exclusively adsorb and detect aspartame (ASP). We used zein, together with deep eutectic solvents (DESs) and FeO as the cross-linker, functional monomer and support material, respectively. A magnetic glassy carbon electrode (MGCE) modified with ZDM-MIPs was used for selective recognition of ASP.

Objective: To objectively and subjectively assess the image characteristics of noise-optimized virtual monoenergetic images [MEI (+)] and polyenergetic images (PEIs) from dual-energy computed tomography angiography and then to explore the clinical value of the optimal MEI (+) in preoperative perforator planning of anterolateral thigh (ALT) flap transplantation.

Methods: Sixteen patients (32 thighs) who underwent lower extremity run-off dual-energy computed tomography angiography for planning ALT flap transplantation were enrolled. One standard PEI and 5 MEI (+) in 10-keV intervals (range, 40-80 keV) were reconstructed.

Effect of Fushengong Decoction on PTEN/PI3K/AKT/NF-κB Pathway in Rats With Chronic Renal Failure via Dual-Dimension Network Pharmacology Strategy.

Front Pharmacol

March 2022

Chongqing Key Laboratory of Traditional Chinese Medicine for Prevention and Cure of Metabolic Diseases, College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China.

The treatment of chronic renal failure (CRF) with traditional Chinese medicine has attracted much attention, but its mechanism is not clear. Network pharmacology is an effective strategy for exploring the interaction mechanisms between Chinese herbs and diseases, however, it still needs to be validated in cell and/or animal experiments due to its virtual screening characteristics. Herein, the anti-CRF mechanism of the Fushengong decoction (FSGD) was investigated using a dualdimension network pharmacological strategy combined with experiment.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor exon 20 insertions ( ex20ins) occur in about 4-14% of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients with mutations. Recently some targeted drugs have been approved for the treatment of LUAD patients with ex20ins. However, the heterogeneity of ex20ins mutations and resultant challenges in identifying them have led to the underestimation of their frequency.

Background: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients with a high tumor grade, lymphovascular invasion (LVI), or perineural invasion (PNI) tend to demonstrate a poor prognosis in clinical series. Thus, the identification of histopathological features, including tumor grade, LVI, and PNI, before treatment could be used to stratify the prognosis of patients with HNSCC. This study aimed to assess whether quantitative parameters derived from pretreatment dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) can predict the histopathological features of patients with HNSCC.

Poor prognosis of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCCs) results from resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. To uncover the drivers of HNSCC resistance, including stemness and hypoxia, in this study, we compared the gene expression between CD44 and CD44 HNSCC cells and assessed the correlation of CD44 and hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) expression with mouse features and outcomes of patients with HNSCC. We combined the knockdown or activation of HIF-1α with in vitro and in vivo assays to evaluate effects on stemness and resistance of HNSCC cells.
