Objectives: Unresectable canine hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has limited nonsurgical treatment options. Sorafenib is a targeted therapy for unresectable canine HCC. However, there are limited reports on the expression of target genes.

Enhancing trauma-informed care for older veterans: clinician perspectives on trauma practices and curricular needs.

Trauma-informed care is mandated in long-term care settings in the United States; however, little is known about clinicians' perspectives on trauma-informed care educational needs. To address this gap, we gathered responses to closed- and open-ended questions from two samples who work with older adults: (1) hospice and palliative care staff ( = 279) completing a recurring bi-annual survey, and (2) clinicians from diverse settings ( = 242) responding to live polling during a Veterans Affairs (VA) national webinar. Results of qualitative and quantitative analysis revealed that both routinely screened for trauma history or posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Examining the Role of Medical School Faculty in Developing Students' Cultural Humility Skills: Insights From a Single-Center Multimethod Study.

Background: While the Liaison Committee on Medical Education emphasizes the teaching of cultural competence in medical education, the concept of cultural humility, focusing on self-reflection and lifelong learning, has been proposed as a more effective approach. Although there have been numerous discussions on both topics, understanding how faculty in clinical settings help students develop cultural humility skills remains limited.

Objective: Our multimethod study utilized a survey and semi-structured interviews to identify strategies that faculty at one institution use to help students develop cultural humility skills.

Embracing anti-racism: Co-creating recommendations with Black people for how addiction treatment needs to change.

In the United States, Black people face harsher health and social consequences of addiction compared to people who are not Black. These differential consequences are largely attributable to systemic racism. While addiction treatment may mitigate health disparities related to substance use, Black people also experience structural barriers and direct interpersonal racism which contribute to inequitable access and treatment outcomes.

The role of genetics in neonatal abstinence syndrome.

Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) after in-utero exposure to opioids remains a significant public health concern. NAS is a highly variable condition in which presentation and severity cannot be explained by clinical factors alone. Research in human subjects has identified both genetic and epigenetic associations with prenatal opioid exposure and NAS severity, including single nucleotide polymorphisms, DNA methylation differences, and gene expression modifications.

Purpose Of Review: This is a critical review of English language literature (January 2023-June 2024) on psychological trauma amongst forcibly displaced migrant women. The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Framework was used to organize multi-layered mental health interventions.

Recent Findings: Findings indicate many promising community-based interventions, often delivered by trained lay facilitators.

Navigating professional growth for women in radiology: A practical guide for mentorship, sponsorship, and coaching.

Historically, women in radiology are underrepresented in radiology and face disproportionate barriers to career advancement related to work-life integration, gender bias, and relative lack of female role models. Given these challenges, women must be proactive and seek out mentorship and sponsorship to help navigate career obstacles and to guide career direction. At times of inflection, coaching can play a role in helping to clarify next steps through self-discovery of one's strengths, limitations, and desired goals.

HELMET: A Hybrid Machine Learning Framework for Real-Time Prediction of Edema Trajectory in Large Middle Cerebral Artery Stroke.

Malignant cerebral edema occurs when brain swelling displaces and compresses vital midline structures within the first week of a large middle cerebral artery stroke. Early interventions such as hyperosmolar therapy or surgical decompression may reverse secondary injury but must be administered judiciously. To optimize treatment and reduce secondary damage, clinicians need strategies to frequently and quantitatively assess the trajectory of edema using updated, relevant information.

DNA Methylation Signatures of Cardiovascular Health Provide Insights into Diseases.

Background: The association of overall cardiovascular health (CVH) with changes in DNA methylation (DNAm) has not been well characterized.

Methods: We calculated the American Heart Association's Life's Essential 8 (LE8) score to reflect CVH in five cohorts with diverse ancestry backgrounds. Epigenome-wide association studies (EWAS) for LE8 score were conducted, followed by bioinformatic analyses.

Introduction: The development of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) has been associated with improved survival outcomes in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, this association's extent across race and ethnicity remains uncertain. We evaluated the association between the development of irAEs and treatment outcomes across racially diverse groups treated at a safety net hospital.

Predicting Structural Consequences of Antibody Light Chain N-Glycosylation in AL Amyloidosis.

Antibody light chains form amyloid fibrils that lead to progressive tissue damage in amyloid light chain (AL) amyloidosis. The properties of each patient's unique light chain appear to determine its propensity to form amyloid. One factor is N-glycosylation, which is more frequent in amyloid-associated light chains than in light chains from the normal immune repertoire.

Hospital Provider's Perspectives on MOUD Initiation and Continuation After Inpatient Discharge.

Background: Individuals with opioid use disorder have high rates of hospital admissions, which represent a critical opportunity to engage patients and initiate medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). However, few patients receive MOUD and, even if MOUD is initiated in the hospital, patients may encounter barriers to continuing MOUD in the community.

Objective: Describe hospital providers' experiences and perspectives to inform initiatives and policies that support hospital-based MOUD initiation and continuation in community treatment programs.

This protocol includes instructions for transfections for producer and acceptor cells and the use of trVLPs for infection.
