Antibiotic susceptibility, morphology, virulence factors, and proteomic changes were assessed using disc-diffusion, agar-based, spectrophotometry, SEM, and iTRAQ-LC-MS/MS methods.

Endoscopic Stent for Anastomotic Leakage Treatment Post Proximal Gastrectomy in Gastric Cancer: A Case Report.

The management of gastrointestinal anastomotic leaks post surgery is a considerable challenge, characterized by elevated morbidity and mortality, particularly in cases of esophageal-jejunal anastomotic leaks. Diverse endoscopic intervention techniques have been utilized with enhanced success. We present a case where a 57-year-old patient with Siewert type II esophageal cardia cancer underwent endoscopic deployment of a fully covered stent into a fistula resulting from anastomotic leakage, following a laparoscopic proximal gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y and double tract reconstruction.

Medical treatment prior to micro-TESE.

Except in cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, the use of medical therapy before microsurgical testicular sperm extraction (micro-TESE) is controversial. In some studies, hormone therapy has been shown to improve the possibility of sperm retrieval during micro-TESE and even lead to the presence of sperm in the ejaculate in some cases, thereby obviating the need for micro-TESE. However, their routine use before micro-TESE in cases of nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) being associated with hypergonadotropic hypogonadism and eugonadism (normogonadotropic condition) has not been supported with robust evidence.

The Effectiveness of Afatinib as First-Line Treatment in Vietnamese Patients With EGFR-Mutant Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer and Brain Metastases.

Introduction: The role of afatinib in the first-line treatment of EGFR-mutant advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients has been proven through clinical trials and real-world studies. However, additional data on the effectiveness of afatinib in patients with brain metastases are lacking.

Methods: EGFR-mutant NSCLC patients with brain metastases were retrospectively reviewed across nine cancer centers in Vietnam from April 1, 2018 to June 1, 2022.

Long-term follow-up after acute mercury poisoning-induced pneumonitis following cinnabar heating: A rare case report.

Rationale: Among 3 forms of mercury, elemental mercury vapor presents the highest threat due to its potential to cause acute pneumonitis. The management of acute mercury vapor poisoning remains unclear, particularly in acute lung injury. We present a case of mercury vapor poisoning resulting from the heating of cinnabar, successfully treated with high-dose corticosteroids and chelation therapy, and follow-up over 6 months.

Laparoscopic Intraperitoneal Onlay Mesh Plus (IPOM Plus) With Mobilizing the Urinary Bladder for Suprapubic Incisional Hernia Repair: A Case Report.

Ventral hernias represent a prevalent surgical complication in contemporary medical practice, with incisional hernias being a common long-term outcome following abdominal surgery. There are many risk factors for abdominal incisional hernias, including surgical history, malnutrition, obesity, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, abdominal closure technique, and surgical site infection. Laparoscopic repair of incisional hernias is the optimal surgical approach, as it is associated with reduced hospital stays, fewer perioperative complications, and lower recurrence rates.

HLA Compatibility and Graft Survival Rates Among Related and Unrelated Donors in Renal Transplantation.

Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) compatibility between donors and recipients plays a critical role in graft survival in renal transplantation. This study evaluates the impact of HLA mismatching on graft survival and rejection among renal transplant recipients with related and unrelated donors, considering factors such as age, sex, ABO blood type, and anti-HLA antibodies. We investigated the graft survival rates between related and unrelated donors in a prospective cohort study conducted from 2018 to 2020 at Cho Ray Hospital and People's Hospital 115 in Vietnam, involving 126 related and 82 unrelated donor-recipient pairs.

Interdisciplinary care of facial plexiform neurofibroma: a case report.

Background: Neurofibromatosis is considered a rare genetic disorder primarily affecting neural tissues. The most common type is neurofibromatosis type 1, which is characterized by plexiform neurofibromas.

Case Presentation: We report a case of a 30-year-old Rag-lay ethnic woman with facial plexiform neurofibroma, which not only infiltrated the left eye socket but also caused destruction of temporal bone and facial deformity.

Frailty as an independent predictor for midterm adverse outcomes in the elderly undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention: A longitudinal cohort study.

Background: Frailty is associated with poor health outcomes in elderly population. However, its effect on midterm outcomes in elderly patients undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) remains unknown.

Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the association between frailty, as classified by the Clinical Frailty Scale (CFS), and midterm adverse outcomes in elderly STEMI patients after primary PCI.

Introduction: Esophageal leiomyoma is a rare disease, most of which are benign, and endoscopic tumor removal surgery is a widely accepted treatment method. The two surgical approaches, laparoscopic and thoracoscopic, must be selected and applied according to the tumor size and location. The study aimed to evaluate the results, feasibility, and appropriate approach of minimally invasive surgery to treat esophageal leiomyoma.

The prognostic significance of diabetes in non-small cell lung cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors: A meta-analysis.

Aims: Studies on the prognosis of patients with diabetes and non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in the era of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are limited, and existing findings remain inconsistent. This meta-analysis explored the association between diabetes and survival outcomes in this population.

Methods: A total of 10 non-randomized studies comparing overall survival between patients with NSCLC receiving ICIs with and without diabetes were included.

Durvalumab Versus Chemotherapy as First-line Treatment for Metastatic NSCLC With Tumor PD-L1 Expression of 25% or Higher: Results From the Randomized Phase 3 PEARL Study.

Introduction: PEARL (NCT03003962) is an open-label, phase 3 study comparing first-line durvalumab monotherapy with chemotherapy in patients with metastatic NSCLC (mNSCLC [EGFR/ALK wild type]) with programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) tumor cell (TC) membrane expression status of 25% or higher. We report the final analysis of PEARL.

In recent years, there has been increased attention on the importance of healthcare environmental cleaning, including the need to professionalize and support the workforce responsible for performing cleaning. Global agendas and strategies on infection prevention and control (IPC) and water, sanitation and hygiene highlight the need for improvements to this sector, particularly in resource-limited healthcare facilities in low- and middle-income countries. Correspondingly, several resources have been developed that aim to (1) improve professional training of cleaners and (2) improve implementation of best practices in resource-limited settings.

Exploring Surgical Management Strategies for Endobronchial Tumors.

Endobronchial tumors, though relatively uncommon, present a diverse array of pathological conditions, including both benign and malignant neoplasms. This retrospective study focuses on the surgical management of seven such cases affecting the main or lobar bronchi. The study involves a diverse patient population, ranging in age from 18 to 65 years, with a median age of 26 years.

Objective: This study investigates the correlation among craniometric measurements, skull morphology, and subthalamic nucleus (STN) target coordinates in DBS surgery.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 77 Parkinson disease patients who underwent bilateral STN-DBS surgery at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital and University Medical Center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Craniometric measurements and STN target coordinates were analyzed using Pearson correlation and multivariate linear regression.

Reporting ethical approval in case reports and case series in 12 consecutive years: A systematic review.

Our study describes the reported rate of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, declaration of Helsinki (DoH), and informed consent in the case reports and case series and investigates factors associated with the ethical approval report. We searched PubMed for case reports and case series from 2006 to 2017. Annually, we obtained the first 20 articles of a case report cluster from 20 distinct publications.
