Reporting ethical approval in case reports and case series in 12 consecutive years: A systematic review.

Our study describes the reported rate of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval, declaration of Helsinki (DoH), and informed consent in the case reports and case series and investigates factors associated with the ethical approval report. We searched PubMed for case reports and case series from 2006 to 2017. Annually, we obtained the first 20 articles of a case report cluster from 20 distinct publications.

Impact of concurrent MASLD on early-stage HCC following curative resection in chronic hepatitis B.

In 2023, a new nomenclature, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), replaced the term non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). With the global rise in MASLD prevalence, concurrent MASLD and chronic hepatitis B (CHB)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are becoming increasingly common. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical impact of concurrent MASLD on long-term survival outcomes in patients with CHB-related early-stage HCC following curative resection.

The nightmare of catheter ablation in a young male with incessant supraventricular tachycardia.

A case report involving incessant multi-types of supraventricular tachycardia and acute decompensated heart failure required a rescuing electrophysiology study and ablation. Ventricular fibrillation occurred due to coronary spasm, complicating the deteriorating heart. However, aggressive therapies, including extracorporeal support and the timely elimination of the culprit accessory pathway, successfully resolved the patient's condition.

Endoscopic characteristics and performance of WASP classification in the diagnosis of colorectal sessile-serrated lesions in Vietnamese patients.

Background/aims: Sessile-serrated lesions (SSLs) are challenging to detect due to their typically subtle appearance. The Workgroup serrAted polypS and Polyposis (WASP) classification was developed to diagnose SSLs endoscopically. This study aimed to evaluate the endoscopic characteristics of SSLs and the performance of the WASP classification in the Vietnamese population.

Background And Aim: Accurate prediction of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is crucial for timely intervention. This study focuses on the Systemic Inflammatory Response Index (SIRI) to assess its clinical value in predicting the severity of AP in the Vietnamese context.

Part 1 of this review provided an overview of AF in Vietnam, with a particular focus on primary and secondary stroke prevention. Part 2 explores the management of AF in special, high-risk and clinically common patient populations, including those with renal impairment, diabetes, the elderly, and those with coronary artery disease. Furthermore, Part 2 addresses the challenges posed by patients with AF who have a bioprosthetic valve, a group situated in a grey area of consideration.

Background And Aim: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is associated with repetitive gastrointestinal symptoms that greatly reduce the patient's quality of life (QoL). Training regarding IBS-related knowledge, medication adherence, lifestyle, and diet adjustments has been demonstrated to strengthen patient QoL. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention carried out by clinical pharmacists to improve the QoL of patients with IBS.

Investigation of antibiotic use in patients with acute pancreatitis in a Vietnamese hospital.

Background And Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the antibiotics used in patients with acute pancreatitis and evaluate their appropriateness.

Methods: We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study on 136 patients aged 18 years or older who were diagnosed with acute pancreatitis and admitted to a national hospital in Ho Chi Minh City from January 2017 to December 2018. Medical records of patients were reviewed for data analysis, including epidemiological characteristics, pathological characteristics, treatment methods, and treatment effectiveness.

Solitary metastasis of ampullary carcinoma to the spleen: a case report.

Here, we report a first case of ampullary cancer with solitary metastasis of the spleen, which was successfully treated with pancreatoduodenectomy and splenectomy and was discharged 7 days after the operation with outpatient chemotherapy. In such cases, physicians should consider splenectomy as an effective treatment option.
