Research involvement among undergraduate medical students in Bangladesh: a multicenter cross-sectional study.

Background: The involvement of undergraduate medical students in research is pivotal for the advancement of evidence-based clinical practice. This study aimed to assess the extent of research involvement and the factors influencing it among undergraduate medical students in Bangladesh.

Methods: A multi-center cross-sectional study involving 2864 medical students from both public and private medical colleges was conducted between June and December 2023.

The Accuracy of the Passive Leg Raising Test Using the Perfusion Index to Identify Preload Responsiveness-A Single Center Study in a Resource-Limited Setting.

We investigated the accuracy of predicting preload responsiveness by means of a passive leg raising test (PLR) using the perfusion index (PI) in critically ill patients showing signs of hypoperfusion in a resource-limited setting. We carried out a prospective observational single center study in patients admitted for sepsis or severe malaria with signs of hypoperfusion in Chattogram, Bangladesh. A PLR was performed at baseline, and at 6, 24, 48, and 72 h.

SVMVGGNet-16: A Novel Machine and Deep Learning Based Approaches for Lung Cancer Detection Using Combined SVM and VGGNet-16.

Background And Objective: Lung cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide, necessitating early and accurate detection methods. Our study aims to enhance lung cancer detection by integrating VGGNet-16 form of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Support Vector Machines (SVM) into a hybrid model (SVMVGGNet-16), leveraging the strengths of both models for high accuracy and reliability in classifying lung cancer types in different 4 classes such as adenocarcinoma (ADC), large cell carcinoma (LCC), Normal, and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).

Methods: Using the LIDC-IDRI dataset, we pre-processed images with a median filter and histogram equalization, segmented lung tumors through thresholding and edge detection, and extracted geometric features such as area, perimeter, eccentricity, compactness, and circularity.

In this study, we investigated the host-guest complexation between Tetrahydrocurcumin (THC) and Hydroxypropyl-β-Cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD) using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP-D3/TPZ level of theory in two possible orientations. To determine the reactive sites in both complexes for electrophilic and nucleophilic attacks, we calculated and interpreted the binding energy, HOMO and LUMO orbitals, global chemical reactivity descriptors, natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis, and Fukui indices.

Venom-spit ophthalmia: A novel envenomation of Monocled Cobra (Naja kaouthia).

Handling venomous snakes poses a significant risk of envenomation. In the case of spitting cobras, additional precautions, like wearing face shields, are necessary to prevent ophthalmic envenomation. Although, the Monocled Cobra (Naja kaouthia) is not a true spitting cobra, however some spitting events has been reported from Northeastern India and Nepal but ocular envenomation is scarce.

A Case of Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome With Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage and Splenomegaly.

Gastrointestinal bleeding resulting from the involvement of the gastrointestinal tract in people with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS) is exceedingly uncommon and frequently neglected. A 22-year-old male, a diagnosed case of KTS, was assessed for per rectal bleeding and abdominal discomfort. It can also manifest as Bartter-like syndrome (BLS), a rare side effect of certain medications. Polymyxin-B, an antibiotic used to treat multidrug-resistant infections is infrequently associated with BLS.

Strongyloides Hyperinfection Syndrome Following Immunosuppressant Therapy for COVID-19: A Case Report With Literature Review.

Strongyloides hyperinfection and disseminated infections are usually associated with immunosuppression; these severe manifestations occur in a minority of cases. The use of immunosuppressants such as corticosteroids and Baricitinib for treating COVID-19 pneumonia can be responsible for patients' immunosuppression and cause Strongyloides hyperinfection syndrome. The chance increases when the patient belongs to countries or regions where chronic infection with Strongyloides is more prevalent.
