Purpose: This trial evaluates the addition of the PD-L1 antibody atezolizumab (ATZ) to standard-of-care fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel (FLOT) as a perioperative treatment for patients with resectable esophagogastric adenocarcinoma (EGA).

Methods: DANTE started as multicenter, randomized phase II trial, which was subsequently converted to a phase III trial. Here, we present the results of the phase II proportion, focusing on surgical pathology and safety outcomes on an exploratory basis.

S3 guideline Allergy Prevention.

Allergol Select

March 2022

Kinder-Zentrum Bethel, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel, Universitätsklinik für Kinder- und Jugendmedizin, Universitätsklinikum OWL, Universität Bielefeld, Bielefeld, Deutschland.

Background: The persistently high prevalence of allergic diseases in Western industrial nations and the limited possibilities of causal therapy make evidence-based recommendations for primary prevention necessary.

Methods: The recommendations of the S3 guideline Allergy Prevention, published in its last version in 2014, were revised and consulted on the basis of a current systematic literature search. The evidence search was conducted for the period 06/2013 - 11/2020 in the electronic databases Cochrane and MEDLINE, as well as in the reference lists of current reviews and through references from experts.

Background: Malignant solid pseudopapillary neoplasms (SPN) are rare tumor entities of the pancreas. The prognosis for SPN is generally excellent, although some tumors have malignant potential and tend to metastasize or relapse.

Objective: The aim was to investigate whether there are histopathological or surgical risk factors that enable the biological potential of SPN to be estimated.

Diabetic foot syndrome (DFS) is the most frequent reason for major amputations in Germany. The majority of foot lesions are triggered by repetitive pressure in diabetic polyneuropathy. Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) impairs wound healing and is the main risk factor for amputations.

An individual's inherited genetic variation may contribute to the 'angiogenic switch', which is essential for blood supply and tumor growth of microscopic and macroscopic tumors. Polymorphisms in angiogenesis-related genes potentially predispose to colorectal cancer (CRC) or affect the survival of CRC patients. We investigated the association of 392 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 33 angiogenesis-related genes with CRC risk and survival of CRC patients in 1754 CRC cases and 1781 healthy controls within DACHS (Darmkrebs: Chancen der Verhütung durch Screening), a German population-based case-control study.

The purpose of this registry study was to provide an overview of trends and results of liver transplantation (LT) in Europe from 1968 to 2016. These data on LT were collected prospectively from 169 centers from 32 countries, in the European Liver Transplant Registry (ELTR) beginning in 1968. This overview provides epidemiological data, as well as information on evolution of techniques, and outcomes in LT in Europe over more than five decades; something that cannot be obtained from only a single center experience.

At the present time, there is no evidence available as to the knowledge of general surgeons regarding multi-resistant pathogens (MRP) and the rational use of antibiotic medication (antibiotic stewardship/ABS) compared with physicians from other disciplines. As part of the MR2 survey (Multiinstitutional Reconnaissance of practice with MultiResistant bacteria - a survey focussing on German hospitals), a questionnaire comprising 4 + 35 items was distributed to urologists, internists, gynaecologists and general surgeons in 18 hospitals. Multivariate regression models were applied to assess the impact of each discipline affiliation on predefined endpoints.

The orbital volume after enucleation or evisceration might shrink over time due to atrophy of the orbital fat and connective tissue. This can lead to prosthesis misfit and an unsatisfactory cosmetic result. This so-called post enucleation socket syndrome (PESS) needs a secondary orbital volume augmentation.

This extended classification of joint implant related pathology is a practical histopathologic classification based on defined morphological criteria covering the complete spectrum of pathohistologic changes in periprosthetic tissues. These changes may occur as a consequence of endoprosthetic replacement of large joints and may lead to a reduction in the prosthesis survival rate. We describe the established consensus classification of the periprosthetic membrane, in which aseptic and septic prosthetic loosening can be subdivided into four histological types, as well as histopathological criteria for additional significant pathologies including endoprosthetic-associated arthrofibrosis, particle-induced immunological, inflammatory and toxic mechanisms (adverse reactions), and bone tissue pathologies.

[Treating mitral regurgitation: a surgical and interventional update].

Herz

December 2011

Universitäres Herzzentrum Hamburg, Klinik und Poliklinik für Herz- und Gefäßchirurgie, Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf, Martinistr. 52, 20246, Hamburg, Deutschland.

Surgical mitral valve repair has constantly evolved to become the standard of care for severe mitral regurgitation (MR) with superior acute and long-term results compared to valve replacement. Minimally-invasive surgical techniques have been successful in reducing operative trauma while yielding equivalent or even superior results compared to the conventional sternotomy approach. However, due to elevated operative risk a growing proportion of patients are not referred for surgery, especially elderly patients with reduced ventricular function and functional MR who often present with relevant comorbidities.

Purpose: To determine the frequency and the potential clinical use of HER2 (17q21) gene amplification and chromosome 17 aneuploidy in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).

Materials And Methods: Serial tissue sections of 50 resected PDACs were analyzed with chromogenic in situ hybridization using locus-specific HER2 probes and centromeric probes for chromosome 17. Centromeric probes for chromosome 7 and 8 were hybridized to confirm ploidy levels.

[Detection of H-ras and K-ras in tumors of gastrointestinal-pancreatic system].

Langenbecks Arch Chir Suppl Kongressbd

November 2003

Chirurgische Klinik, Abteilung für Allgemeinchirurgie, Universitäts Krankenhaus Eppendorf, Hamburg.

The Gastro-Entero-Pancreatic System (GEP) defined a group of highly differentiated neuroendocrine tumors (Insulinomas, Gastrinomas, PP-omas, Somatostatinomas, Carcinoids). In this kind of tumors the multistage carcinogenesis is really unknown. Activated ras oncogenes could play an important role in initiation or process of carcinogenesis in different human cancers.
