Electrical stimulation (ES) is proposed as a therapeutic solution for managing chronic wounds. However, its widespread clinical adoption is limited by the requirement of additional extracorporeal devices to power ES-based wound dressings. In this study, a novel sandwich-structured photovoltaic microcurrent hydrogel dressing (PMH dressing) is designed for treating diabetic wounds.

Oxytocin is well known for its role in relationships and social cognition and has more recently been implicated in pain relief and pain perception. Connections between prosocial feelings and pain relief are also well documented; however, the effects of exogenous oxytocin on social cognition and pain have not been explored. The current study tested whether intranasally delivered oxytocin affects pain perception through prosocial behaviors.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 was one of the most devastating public health issues in recent decades. The ophthalmology community is as concerned about the COVID-19 pandemic as the global public health community is, as COVID-19 was recognized to affect multiple organs in the human body, including the eyes, early in the course of the outbreak. Ophthalmic manifestations of COVID-19 are highly variable and could range from mild ocular surface abnormalities to potentially sight and life-threatening orbital and neuro-ophthalmic diseases.

This paper presents a novel low-cost and fully-portable instrumented shoe system for gait phase detection. The instrumented shoe consists of 174 independent sensing units constructed based on an off-the-shelf force-sensitive film known as the Velostat conductive copolymer. A zero potential method was implemented to address the crosstalk effect among the matrix-formed sensing arrays.

Background: Facial skin characteristics can provide valuable information about a patient's underlying health conditions.
Objective: In practice, there are often samples with divergent characteristics (commonly known as divergent samples) that can be attributed to environmental factors, living conditions, or genetic elements. These divergent samples significantly degrade the accuracy of diagnoses.

Control of the intermolecular aggregation of organic π-conjugated molecules as chromophores is crucial for tuning their physical properties such as light absorption/emission, and energy and charge transfer. Lots of advances have been achieved in control of intermolecular aggregation of organic chromophores in solid states where an indefinitely large number of molecules are involved. However, much less understanding has been gained at a mesoscale of aggregates formed by well-defined organization of a deterministic number of chromophores, which has been realized in natural photosynthetic systems but still remains rare in manmade materials.

Stable luminescent radicals are open-shell emitters with unique doublet emission characteristics. This feature makes stable luminescent radicals exhibit widespread application prospects in constructing optical, electrical, and magnetic materials. In this work, a stable luminescent radical-based X-ray scintillator of was prepared, which exhibited a high X-ray excited luminescence (XEL) efficiency as well as excellent stability.

When two people coincidentally have something in common (such as a name or birthday), they tend to like each other more and are thus more likely to offer help and comply with requests. This dynamic can have important legal and ethical consequences whenever these incidental similarities give rise to unfair favoritism. Using a large-scale, longitudinal natural experiment, covering nearly 200,000 annual earnings forecasts over more than 25 y, we show that when a CEO and a securities analyst share a first name, the analyst's financial forecast is more accurate.

Developing deep-blue emitters for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) is critical but challenging, which requires a good balance between light color, exciton utilization, and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of solid film. Herein, a high-quality deep-blue emitter, abbreviated 2TriPE-CzMCN, is designed by introducing an aggregation-induced emission (AIE) group into a crossed long-short axis (CLSA) skeleton. Theoretical and experimental investigations reveal that the CLSA molecular design can achieve a balance between deep-blue emission and triplet-excitons utilization, while the high PLQY of the solid film resulting from the AIE feature helps to improve the performance of OLEDs.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an umbrella term that represents a new technology for simulating and expanding human intelligence by using machines and computer systems. It consists of methods such as machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and natural language processing (NLP). In the era of big data, AI has emerged as an essential tool for improving the detection of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's diseases (AD), Parkinson's diseases, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, etc.

The forthcoming generation of materials, including artificial muscles, recyclable and healable systems, photochromic heterogeneous catalysts, or tailorable supercapacitors, relies on the fundamental concept of rapid switching between two or more discrete forms in the solid state. Herein, we report a breakthrough in the "speed limit" of photochromic molecules on the example of sterically-demanding spiropyran derivatives through their integration within solvent-free confined space, allowing for engineering of the photoresponsive moiety environment and tailoring their photoisomerization rates. The presented conceptual approach realized through construction of the spiropyran environment results in ~1000 times switching enhancement even in the solid state compared to its behavior in solution, setting a record in the field of photochromic compounds.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are a group of phytotoxins present in about 3% of flowering plants worldwide. Ingestion of PA-containing herbal products may lead to hepatotoxicity. Notably, the toxicokinetic (TK) behaviors, especially pyrrole-protein adducts (PPAs) having the same structure but generated from metabolic activation of different PAs, significantly affect the toxicity of structurally diverse PAs, therefore studying them in their pure form is preferable to extracts to stratify toxic potency of different PAs co-existing in herbal extracts.

In the analysis of both single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatially resolved transcriptomics (SRT) data, classifying cells/spots into cell/domain types is an essential analytic step for many secondary analyses. Most of the existing annotation methods have been developed for scRNA-seq datasets without any consideration of spatial information. Here, we present SpatialAnno, an efficient and accurate annotation method for spatial transcriptomics datasets, with the capability to effectively leverage a large number of non-marker genes as well as 'qualitative' information about marker genes without using a reference dataset.

Bladder cancer (BCa) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Although multiple efforts have been made, the 5-year survival rate of patients with BCa remains unchanged in recent years. Overexpression of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is found in ≈74% of BCa tissue specimens; however, current EGFR-based targeted therapies show little benefit for BCa patients, as the EGFR downstream pathways appear to be circumvented by other receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs).

The Current early clinical treatment strategy for OA often centers on anti-inflammatory or analgesia medication, weight loss, improved muscular function and articular cartilage repair. Although these treatments can relieve symptoms, OA tends to be progressive, and most patients require arthroplasty at the terminal stages of OA.

Biological evidence indicewates that the brain atrophy can be involved at the onset of neuropathological pathways of Alzheimer's disease. However, there is lack of formal statistical methods to perform genetic dissection of brain activation phenotypes such as shape and intensity. To this end, we propose a Bayesian hierarchical model which consists of two levels of hierarchy.
