Background: Megakaryocytes are traditionally recognized as cells responsible for platelet production. However, beyond their role in thrombopoiesis, megakaryocytes also participate in inflammatory responses and regulate immune system functions. Sepsis, characterized by life-threatening organ dysfunction due to a dysregulated response to infection, prominently features coagulopathy, severe inflammation, and immune dysfunction as key pathophysiological aspects.

This study therefore aimed to explore the efficacy of a neural graft constructed using adipose mesenchymal stem cells (ADSC), acellular microtissues (MTs), and chitosan in the treatment of peripheral nerve defects.

Methods: Stem cell therapy with acellular MTs provided a suitable microenvironment for axonal regeneration, and compensated for the lack of repair cells in the neural ducts of male 8-week-old Sprague Dawley rats.

Background: Prolonged dependence on mechanical ventilation is a common occurrence in clinical ICU patients and presents significant challenges for patient care and resource allocation. Predicting prolonged dependence on mechanical ventilation is crucial for improving patient outcomes, preventing ventilator-associated complications, and guiding targeted clinical interventions. However, specific tools for predicting prolonged mechanical ventilation among ICU patients, particularly those with critical orthopaedic trauma, are currently lacking.

The miR-23a/27a/24 - 2 cluster drives immune evasion and resistance to PD-1/PD-L1 blockade in non-small cell lung cancer.

Programmed cell death protein ligand-1 (PD-L1) and major histocompatibility complex I (MHC-I) are key molecules related to tumor immune evasion and resistance to programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1)/PD-L1 blockade. Here, we demonstrated that the upregulation of all miRNAs in the miR-23a/27a/24 - 2 cluster was correlated with poor survival, immune evasion and PD-1/PD-L1 blockade resistance in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The overexpression of all miRNAs in the miR-23a/27a/24 - 2 cluster upregulated PD-L1 expression by targeting Cbl proto-oncogene B (CBLB) and downregulated MHC-I expression by increasing the level of eukaryotic initiation factor 3B (eIF3B) via the targeting of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF).

Clinical characteristics, etiology, and treatment of young adult-onset epilepsy: A 24-year retrospective study.

Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics, etiology, drug treatment, and related factors of patients with young adult-onset epilepsy.

Methods: The study included patients with epilepsy aged between 18 and 44 years and aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics of epilepsy in young people and their response to antiseizure medication (ASM) over a 24-year period (February 1999 and March 2023).

Results: A total of 4227 patients experienced epilepsy onset between 18 and 44 years of age.

Purpose: To analyze the effect of right versus left long-term single-sided deafness (SSD) on sound source localization (SSL), discuss the necessity of intervention and treatment for SSD patients, and analyze the therapeutic effect of long-term unilateral cochlear implantation (UCI) from the perspective of SSL.

Methods: This study included 25 patients with SSD, 11 patients with UCI, and 30 participants with normal hearing (NH). Their SSL ability was tested by obtaining their average root mean square (RMS) error values of SSL test.

Although the proof-of-concept (POC) phase is critical for the success of translational medical research (TMR), its use remains limited, and clinicians are frequently uncertain about how to seek assistance from POC teams when experiencing difficulties with TMR. Therefore, this study explored clinicians' awareness of POC and the supportive reference services offered by POC teams. We distributed an internet-based questionnaire to 702 clinicians who conducted TMR between August 2022 and March 2023.

The Chinese Guidelines for Ultrasound-guided Thermal Ablation of Thyroid Nodules (2024 edition) were jointly initiated by the Ultrasound Committee of Chinese Medical Association, the Interventional Ultrasound Committee of Chinese Association of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering, the Ultrasonic Intervention Committee of Chinese Colleges of Interventionalists, the Oncological Intervention Committee of Chinese Research Hospital Association, 37 multidisciplinary experts in interventional ultrasound, ultrasound medicine, endocrinology and thyroid surgery participated in the compilation of this guide, which expanded the depth and breadth of the perspective and enhanced the authority of the guide. Based on the systematic review of literatures related to ultrasound-guided thermal ablation of thyroid nodules and the professional opinions of experts, the guidelines define the indications and contraindications of thermal ablation, including pre-ablation evaluation and preparation, thermal ablation techniques and operational procedures, post-ablation follow-up, therapeutic effect evaluation, complications prevention and treatment, and the writing of medical documents for ablation. According to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE), a total of 17 objective and comprehensive recommendations were given.

Factors associated with poor hip flexion range of motion after total hip arthroplasty in patients with ankylosing spondylitis: a retrospective study on 538 consecutive hips.

Background: This study aimed to report the mid-term functional outcomes of total hip arthroplasty (THA) for the treatment of advanced hip involvement in ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and identify the factors associated with poor hip flexion range of motion (ROM) after THA in patients with AS.

Methods: We retrospectively investigated the mid-term functional outcomes in 313 AS patients (538 hips) who underwent primary THA from 2012 to 2017, with a mean follow-up of 7 years (range, 4-9 years). Postoperative functional outcomes were assessed by hip flexion ROM, Harris hip score (HHS), and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC).
