Sci Rep

CAS Key Laboratory of Mental Health, Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, 100101, P. R. China.

Pain, especially chronic pain, can lead to cognitive deficits. Mismatch negativity (MMN) is a change-specific component of the auditory event-related brain potential (ERP) that is thought to provide a unique window into sensory memory processes. The present study was designed to determine how chronic and acute pain affects auditory sensory memory.

To compare the efficacy and safety of umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells (CBMNC) and azathioprine (AZA) in the treatment of patients with steroid-dependent or -resistant ulcerative colitis. One hundred and six patients diagnosed with steroid-dependent or -resistant ulcerative colitis were studied retrospectively, including 36 patients treated with CBMNC and 70 treated with AZA. To reduce confounding bias due to retrospective nature of this study, the propensity score matching system was applied to equipoise the pretreatment data of two groups.

Background/aims: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of adalimumab (ADA) in moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC) patients who are unresponsive to traditional therapy.

Methods: Electronic databases, including the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases, were searched to April 20, 2014. UC-related randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared ADA with placebo were eligible.

J Clin Gastroenterol

August 2015

*Department of Gastroenterology, Chinese PLA General Hospital of Jinan Military Command †College of Pharmaceutical Science, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong Province, China.

Goal: To evaluate the efficacy of low-dose (3.5 mg/kg) infliximab for induction and maintenance treatment in Chinese patients with ulcerative colitis.

Background: Treatment with 4 to 5 mg/kg of infliximab also proved to be effective in treating moderate to severe ulcerative colitis.

Cognitive impairment plays a role in the development and maintenance of chronic pain. Patients with painful disorders are reported to show attentional biases toward pain-related information. However, these findings are controversial, and rarely has any study examined whether chronic pain patients have attentional biases to pain-related conditioned stimuli (CS).

Cavernous angiomas affecting the optic pathway are rare. This report describes the case of a 12-year-old girl who presented with a 10-month history of right-sided blurred vision caused by a cavernous angioma affecting the right side of the optic chiasm. The computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a hyperdense image with calcifications.
