Extracellular matrix (ECM)-based small-diameter vascular grafts (SDVGs, inner diameter (ID) < 6 mm) hold great promise for clinical applications. However, existing ECM-based SDVGs suffer from limited donor availability, complex purification, high cost, and insufficient mechanical properties. SDVGs with ECM-like structure and function, and good mechanical properties were rapidly prepared by optimizing common materials and preparation, which can improve their clinical prospects.

Background: Achalasia is a primary esophageal motility disorder, which shows impaired relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) and the absence of peristalsis, leading to dysphagia, weight loss, and chest pain. In recent years, peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) has become a popular method for treating achalasia. However, the effectiveness and safety of full-thickness myotomy (FTM) versus circular muscle myotomy (CMM) in POEM require further investigation.

HBx Facilitates Drug Resistance in Hepatocellular Carcinoma via CD133-regulated Self-renewal of Liver Cancer Stem Cells.

J Clin Transl Hepatol

January 2025

Department of Microbiology and Infectious Disease Center, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Peking University Health Science Center, Beijing, China.

Background And Aims: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection contributes to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tumorigenesis, drug resistance, and recurrence, although the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Recent studies suggest that HBV infection may be associated with liver cancer stem cells (LCSCs), but the exact mechanisms are yet to be resolved. In this study, we aimed to analyze the role of HBV infection in regulating the stemness of HCCs, which is closely linked to drug resistance.

Atherosclerosis, a slowly progressing inflammatory disease, is characterized by the presence of monocyte-derived macrophages. Interventions targeting the inflammatory characteristics of atherosclerosis hold promising potential. Although interleukin (IL)-10 is widely acknowledged for its anti-inflammatory effects, systemic administration of IL-10 has limitations due to its short half-life and significant systemic side effects.

Pralsetinib demonstrated impressive improvement of survival in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harbored de novo RET fusion. However, the efficacy in patients with acquired RET fusion after resistance to EGFR/ALK-TKIs has only been reported on a case-by-case basis, and the strategy for overcoming the acquired RET fusion has not been fully investigated. This multicenter, real-world analysis enrolled 32 patients with unresectable NSCLC harbored acquired RET fusion after resistance to EGFR/ALK-TKIs in 23 centers across China from July 1st, 2018 to Nov 23rd, 2022.

January 2025

Senior Department of Burns & Plastic Surgery, Institute of Burn in the Fourth Medical Centre, Chinese PLA General Hospital, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

Background: Primary blast lung injury is a common and severe consequence of explosion events, characterized by immediate and delayed effects such as apnea and rapid shallow breathing. The overpressure generated by blasts leads to alveolar and capillary damage, resulting in ventilation-perfusion mismatch and increased intrapulmonary shunting. This reduces the effective gas exchange area, causing hypoxemia and hypercapnia.

Article Synopsis
  • Oral mucosal wounds are susceptible to inflammation and complications due to exposure to microorganisms, which can hinder daily activities and diminish quality of life.
  • A novel therapeutic nanoplatform, DATS@Arg-EA-SA, has been developed to target these wounds by combining guanidinated dendritic peptides with diallyl trisulfide (DATS), providing both antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects.
  • This nanoplatform effectively eliminates various bacteria, including drug-resistant strains like MRSA, and enhances healing by promoting the transition of inflammatory cells and alleviating pain, making it a promising solution for oral wound treatment.

Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR, China; State Key Laboratory of Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR, China; Research Institute for Future Food, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR, China. Electronic address:

Immune checkpoint inhibitors are not effective for metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD)-hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients, and identifying the key gut microbiota that contributes to immune resistance in these patients is crucial. Analysis using 16S rRNA sequencing reveals a decrease in Akkermansia muciniphila (Akk) during MAFLD-promoted HCC development. Administration of Akk ameliorates liver steatosis and effectively attenuates the tumor growth in orthotopic MAFLD-HCC mouse models.

Electronic address:

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a metabolic disease, in which inflammation is a key factor. It has been well established that T cells play important role in antigen-driven immune disorders or immune defense, but were less discussed in inflammatory metabolic diseases. However, accumulating evidences suggest that CD186 (also known as CXCR6)-positive tissue infiltrating T cells might play a key role in inflammatory metabolic diseases.

Chronic exposure to high altitudes causes pathophysiological cardiac changes that are characterized by cardiac dysfunction, cardiac hypertrophy, and decreased energy reserves. However, finding specific pharmacological interventions for these pathophysiological changes is challenging. In this study, we identified tetramethylpyrazine (TMP) as a promising drug candidate for cardiac dysfunction caused by simulated high-altitude exposure.
