Loess is extensively developed on both sides of the Longwu River, a tributary of the Yellow River, Tongren County, Qinghai Province. The engineering geological characteristics are complex, and landslide disasters are highly developed. Based on field geological surveys and physical property analysis of the loess in this area, this study analyzes the influence of water content, consolidation pressure, and soil disturbance on the dynamic characteristics of loess using GDS dynamic triaxial tests.

Recovery of nearly 3,000 archaeal genomes from 152 terrestrial geothermal spring metagenomes.

Terrestrial geothermal springs, reminiscent of early Earth conditions, host diverse and abundant populations of Archaea. In this study, we reconstructed 2,949 metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) from 152 metagenomes collected over six years from 48 geothermal springs in Tengchong, China. Among these MAGs, 1,431 (49%) were classified as high-quality, while 1,518 (51%) were considered as medium-quality.

Organic carbon burial (OCB) in lakes, a critical component of the global carbon cycle, surpasses that in oceans, yet its response to global warming and associated feedbacks remains poorly understood. Using a well-dated biomarker sequence from the southern Tibetan Plateau and a comprehensive analysis of Holocene total organic carbon variations in lakes across the region, here we demonstrate that lake OCB significantly declined throughout the Holocene, closely linked to changes in temperature seasonality. Process-based land surface model simulations clarified the key impact of temperature seasonality on OCB in lakes: increased seasonality in the early Holocene saw warmer summers enhancing ecosystem productivity and organic matter deposition, while cooler winters improved organic matter preservation.

However, existing vegetation index datasets face limitations in achieving both high spatial and temporal resolution, restricting their application potential. This study revised a machine learning spatiotemporal fusion model (InENVI) to produce a high-resolution NDVI dataset with 8-day temporal and 30 m spatial resolution, covering China from 2001 to 2020.

Crucial role of subsurface ocean variability in tropical cyclone genesis.

The upper ocean provides thermal energy to tropical cyclones. However, the impacts of the subsurface ocean on tropical cyclogenesis have been largely overlooked. Here, we show that the subsurface variabilities associated with the variation in the 26 °C isothermal depth have pronounced impacts on tropical cyclogenesis over global oceans.

Aim: This study aims to explore the experiences and feelings of women of childbearing age with diabetes skin pruritus after being diagnosed.

Methods: Using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis method, semi-structured interviews were conducted with women of childbearing age who suffer from diabetes skin pruritus, followed by data analysis.

Results: Three superordinate themes and eight subthemes were identified, including psychological distress (self-identity, lack of understanding from others, emotional damage and self-disgust), physical impairment (loss of bodily control, treatment challenges, impact on female sexual characteristics), and coping post-trauma (social withdrawal, active coping).

In recent years, ozone (O) pollution in many Chinese cities has worsened. In this work, size fractionation and chemical speciation of As, Cr, and V in the Jiaomen Waterway (JMW), a tidal river of the Pearl River estuary, were explored based on (ultra)filtration, the diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) techniques and a thermodynamic chemical equilibrium model. The results showed that As was present mainly in soluble forms in the river water, and the suspended particulate matter (SPM) was identified the major carrier for Cr.
