Amino acids are the basic structural units of life, and their intake levels affect disease and health. In the case of renal disease, alterations in amino acid metabolism can be used not only as a clinical indicator of renal disease but also as a therapeutic strategy. However, the biological roles and molecular mechanisms of natural chiral amino acids in human proximal tubular epithelial cells (HK-2) remain unclear.

Chitinase-3-like-1 (Chi3l1), also known as YKL-40 or BRP-39, is a highly conserved mammalian chitinase with a chitin-binding ability but no chitinase enzymatic activity. Chi3l1 is secreted by various cell types and induced by several inflammatory cytokines. It can mediate a series of cell biological processes, such as proliferation, apoptosis, migration, differentiation, and polarization.

Developing simple and efficient multi-gene expression systems is crucial for multi-trait improvement or bioproduction in transgenic plants. In previous research, an -based bicistronic system from the nonpathogenic fungus efficiently expressed multiple enzyme proteins in yeast and maize, and the heterologous enzymes successfully performed their catalytic activity to reconstruct the biosynthetic pathway in the host organism. Unlike enzyme proteins, some heterologous functional proteins (such as insecticidal proteins) are dose-dependent and they need to express sufficient levels to perform their biological functions.

Adventitious root (AR) formation in plants originates from non-root organs such as leaves and hypocotyls. Auxin signaling is essential for AR formation, but the roles of other phytohormones are less clear. In , at least two distinct mechanisms can produce ARs, either from hypocotyls as part of the general root architecture or from wounded organs during de novo root regeneration (DNRR).

Stress on the Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) can severely disrupt cellular function by impairing protein folding and post-translational modifications, thereby leading to the accumulation of poor-quality proteins. However, research on its impact on photosynthesis remains limited. In this study, we investigated the impact of ER stress on the photosynthetic efficiency of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii using pharmacological inducers, tunicamycin (TM) and brefeldin A (BFA), which specifically target the ER.

The MADS-box transcription factor (TF) gene family is pivotal in various aspects of plant biology, particularly in growth, development, and environmental adaptation. It comprises Type I and Type II categories, with the MIKC-type subgroups playing a crucial role in regulating genes essential for both the vegetative and reproductive stages of plant life. Notably, MADS-box proteins can influence processes such as flowering, fruit ripening, and stress tolerance.

is a traditional Chinese medicinal plant of considerable application value and commercial potential, primarily due to its production of various bioactive compounds, particularly dammarane-type triterpenoid saponins that are structurally analogous to ginsenosides. Oxidosqualene cyclase (OSC), a pivotal enzyme in the biosynthesis of triterpenoid metabolites in plants, catalyzes the conversion of oxidosqualene into triterpenoid precursors, which are essential components of the secondary metabolites found in . To elucidate the role of gene family members in the synthesis of gypenosides within , this study undertook a comprehensive genome-wide identification and characterization of genes within and compared their expression levels across populations distributed over different geographical regions by both transcriptome sequencing and qRT-PCR experimental validation.

Macroautophagy deploys a wealth of autophagy-related proteins to synthesize the double-membrane autophagosome, in order to engulf cytosolic components for lysosome-dependent degradation. The recruitment of the ATG12~ATG5-ATG16L1 complex by WIPI family proteins is a crucial step in autophagosome formation. Nevertheless, the molecular mechanism by which WIPI3 facilitates the recruitment of the ATG12~ATG5-ATG16L1 complex remains largely unknown.

In recent years, image-guided brachytherapy for cervical cancer has become an important treatment method for patients with locally advanced cervical cancer, and multi-modality image registration technology is a key step in this system. However, due to the patient's own movement and other factors, the deformation between the different modalities of images is discontinuous, which brings great difficulties to the registration of pelvic computed tomography (CT/) and magnetic resonance (MR) images. In this paper, we propose a multimodality image registration network based on multistage transformation enhancement features (MTEF) to maintain the continuity of the deformation field.

Vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia (VAIN), linked to HPV infection, is a condition that is often overlooked during colposcopy, especially in the vaginal vault area, as clinicians tend to focus more on cervical lesions. This oversight can lead to missed or delayed diagnosis and treatment for patients with VAIN. Timely and accurate classification of VAIN plays a crucial role in the evaluation of vaginal lesions and the formulation of effective diagnostic approaches.
