Aim: We aimed to examine the influence of various prognostic factors on the outcome of external auditory canal (EAC) cancer and create a graphical prediction tool, marking a first in this field, premised on these determinants.
Methods: We retrospectively analysed 173 patients with EAC cancer, making this the largest patient cohort in the literature. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan-Meier method, and the log-rank test was used to assess the differences between established prognostic variables.

Background: Existing biomarkers and models for predicting response to programmed cell death protein 1 monoclonal antibody in advanced squamous-cell non-small cell lung cancer (sqNSCLC) did not have enough accuracy. We used data from the ORIENT-3 study to construct artificial neural network (ANN) systems to predict the response to sintilimab for sqNSCLC.
Methods: Four ANN systems based on bulk RNA data to predict disease control (DC), immune DC (iDC), objective response (OR) and immune OR (iOR) were constructed and tested for patients with sqNSCLC treated with sintilimab.

The majority of multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) patients in China are of the idiopathic subtype (iMCD) with systemic manifestations. However, the impact of iMCD on life quality, mental and psychological status, social function, and caregiving burden is poorly understood. To address this gap, a cross-sectional web-based survey was conducted with 178 iMCD patients and 82 caregivers, including 42 patient-caregiver dyads.

Background: Abnormal blood flow patterns are known to contribute to the ascending aortic dilation in patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV). The present study elucidated the blood flow characteristics in the dilated ascending aorta before and after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis.
Methods: We performed CFD analysis in three BAV patients with ascending aortic dilation (maximum diameter ≥ 45 mm) who underwent TAVR.

Objective: It remains unclear whether modifying laparoscopic radical hysterectomy to adopt tumor-free principles can improve oncologic outcomes in patients with early-stage cervical cancer.
Methods: We performed a single-center retrospective cohort study of 276 patients with early-stage cervical cancer who were treated between January 2017 and January 2023, including 151 patients who underwent laparoscopic radical hysterectomy that incorporated modified tumor-free techniques (MTF group) and 125 patients who underwent conventional laparoscopic radical hysterectomy with a uterine manipulator and unprotected intracorporeal colpotomy (non-MTF group). Oncologic outcomes and perioperative results were analyzed using inverse probability treatment weighting (IPTW).

Background: The majority of patients with prostate cancer (PCa) exhibit intrinsic resistance to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) following radiotherapy (RT). This resistance is generally attributed to the limited antigen presentation of heterogeneous cells within tumors. Here, we aimed to isolate and characterize these diverse subgroups of tumor post-RT to understand the molecular mechanisms of their resistance to ICB.

Introduction: Recurrent or metastatic adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) of the head and neck is rare and highly aggressive. Due to the ineffectiveness of immune checkpoint therapies, this study aims to investigate the tumor immune microenvironment of primary tumor tissues and lung metastatic tissues and to comprehend the challenges of immunotherapy.
Methods: We analyzed RNA sequencing data and constructed immune landscapes from 25 primary tumors and 34 lung metastases.

Introduction: The intestinal microbiota plays a crucial role in health and disease. This study aimed to assess the composition and functional diversity of the intestinal microbiota in donkeys and cows by examining samples collected from different segments of the digestive tract using two distinct techniques: direct swab sampling and faecal sampling.
Results: In this study, we investigated and compared the effects of multiple factors on the composition and function of the intestinal microbial community.

To examine the proportion and trends of cervical adenocarcinoma in cervical cancer (ICC), mainly including cervical adenocarcinoma (CADC) and squamous cervical cancer (SCC) in China, and to analyze the distribution of human papilloma virus (HPV) in CADC and SCC. Published studies reporting HPVs distribution in various histological types or relative proportions of CADC in ICC in China were identified manually and searched systematically in Medline, Embase, Cochrane Library databases, CNKI and Wanfang since the databases were established until October 2022. Meta-analysis was performed using Stata 16.

Galectin-3 (Gal3), a β-galactoside-binding lectin, is expressed predominantly in immunological and inflammatory cells. Gal3 expression is elevated in metabolic diseases, including obesity, diabetes, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and plays an important role in the progression of these diseases. In this review, we summarize the structure and post-translational modifications of Gal3 and the cellular functions of Gal3 according to its subcellular localization.

The DNA demethylating therapy with azacitidine (AZA) is a promising therapeutic strategy for elderly patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AZA primarily inhibits DNA methylation, promotes cell differentiation and apoptosis in AML. However, as a cytosine nucleoside analog, AZA also has the potential to be incorporated into RNA molecules.

Natural killer (NK) cells are cytotoxic lymphocytes of the innate immune system capable of killing virus-infected cells and/or cancer cells. The commonly used NK cells for therapeutic applications include primary NK cells and immortalized NK cell lines. However, primary NK cell therapy faces limitations due to its restricted proliferation capacity and challenges in stable storage.

Lung cancer associated with cystic airspaces (LCCA) is a rare subtype of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), accounting for 1-4% of cases. LCCA is characterized by the presence of cystic airspaces within or at the periphery of the tumor on imaging. LCCA poses significant clinical challenges due to its high risk of misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis, often leading to a worse prognosis compared to other forms of lung cancer.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the one of the most common types of malignant tumor found in the head and neck area. Replication factor C subunit 4 (RFC4), an oncogene active in various human cancers, has been rarely studied in OSCC. In the present study, bioinformatics analysis identified RFC4 as a potential key target in OSCC progression.
