Ethnopharmacological Relevance: The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) Tian-Men-Dong decoction (TD) has been able to effectively treat lung cancer in China for thousands of years. TD improves the quality of life in lung cancer patients by promoting nourishment of yin and reducing dryness, clearing the lung and removing toxins. Pharmacological studies show that TD contains active antitumour ingredients, but its underlying mechanism remains unknown.

Phospholipase A and acyltransferase (PLAAT) 4 is a class II tumor suppressor with phospholipid metabolizing abilities. It was characterized in late 2000s, and has since been referred to as 'tazarotene-induced gene 3' (TIG3) or 'retinoic acid receptor responder 3' (RARRES3) as a key downstream effector of retinoic acid signaling. Two decades of research have revealed the complexity of its function and regulatory roles in suppressing tumorigenesis.

Although alcohols are readily oxidized by a variety of oxidants, their oxidation by metal nitrido complexes is yet to be studied. We report herein visible-light-induced oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols to carbonyl compounds by a strongly luminescent osmium(VI) nitrido complex (). The proposed mechanism involves initial rate-limiting hydrogen-atom transfer (HAT) from the α-carbon of the alcohol to .

3-Amino oxindole Schiff base has been used as an efficient and crucial synthon for highly enantioselective benzylation and allylation with benzyl bromides and allyl bromides in the presence of a 1,3-bis[(9)-allylcinchonidinium-methyl]-2-fluorobenzene dibromide phase transfer catalyst under mild reaction conditions. A broad series of chiral quaternary 3-amino oxindoles were smoothly obtained in good to excellent yields with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 98% ee) with broad substrate generality. A typical scale-up preparation and subsequent Ullman coupling reaction were also smoothly performed, and a special and important chiral spirooxindole benzofuzed pyrrol scaffold with potential pharmaceutical and organocatalytic activities was successfully obtained.

There is growing evidence that extracellular vesicles (EVs) play a functional role in tissue repair and anti-aging by transferring the contents of donor cells to recipient cells. We hypothesized that Dauer (C. elegans), known as "ageless" nematodes, can also secrete extracellular vesicles and influence the lifespan of C.

Detailed phytochemical investigation on the traditional Chinese medicine Swertia pseudochinensis Hara led to the isolation of ten undescribed secoiridoids and fifteen known analogs. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis (including 1D and 2D NMR, and HRESIMS). Selected isolates were assayed for their anti-inflammatory and antibacterial activities, and moderate anti-inflammatory activity via inhibiting the secretion of cytokines IL-6 and TNF-α in macrophages RAW264.

Background: Inflammatory mechanisms play important roles in intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and have been linked to the development of stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP). The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) are inflammatory indexes that influence systemic inflammatory responses after stroke. In this study, we aimed to compare the predictive value of the NLR, SII, SIRI and PLR for SAP in patients with ICH to determine their application potential in the early identification of the severity of pneumonia.

The reactivity of electrophilic Os and Ru nitrides toward various aliphatic and aromatic amines have been previously reported; these reactions all go through an initial nucleophilic addition of the amine nitrogen to M≡N (M = Os, Ru) to generate a M hydrazido species. Herein, we report that the excited state of a luminescent osmium(VI) nitrido complex, [Os(N)()(CN)] (, = 2-(2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenyl)benzoxazole), undergoes unprecedented ring nitrogenation of aromatic amines. Visible-light irradiation of generates , which predominantly attacks the aromatic ring of 2,6-dimethylaniline (MePhNH) to give an Os(II) benzoquinone diimine compound (PPh)[Os()(CN)(-NH═MePh═NH)] [] in 60% yield, while nucleophilic addition of the amine N to also occurs to give the osmium(II) diazonium compound (PPh)[Os()(CN)(N = N-MePh)] [] as a minor product (10% yield).

Background: The interparental conflict has been associated with an increased adolescents' engagement in risk-taking behaviors. However, few studies have examined the potential mediation of deviant peer affiliation and the potential moderation of school climate. Grounded in the ecological system theory, this study aimed to explore the mediating role of deviant peer affiliation and the moderating role of school climate between the association of interparental conflict and risk-taking behavior.

Background: Frailty and sarcopenia are typical geriatric conditions with a complex pathophysiology. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are key regulators of age-related diseases, but the mechanisms underlying physical frailty, sarcopenia, and EVs are not well understood.
Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted to examine the evidence supporting an association between EVs and physical frailty and/or sarcopenia by searching the electronic databases, including the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Embase, from January 2000 to January 2021.

Melanocortin 3 and 4 receptors are two important neural G protein-coupled receptors that regulate energy homeostasis in vertebrates. Melanocortin receptor accessory protein 2 (MRAP2) is also involved in the regulation of food intake and body weight as a variable regulator of melanocortin receptors. Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) is a valuable cold-water fish cultured worldwide.

Xenon binding represents a formidable challenge, and efficient hosts remain rare. Here we report our findings that while enantiomeric bis(urea)-bis(thiourea) macrocycles form exclusive homochiral dimeric assemblies, xenon is able to overcome the narcissism and induces an otherwise-nonobservable heterochiral assembly as its preferred host. An experimental approach and fitting model were developed to obtain binding constants associated with the invisible assembly species.

Aeromonas hydrophila, a Gram-negative bacterium, is one of the major pathogens causing bacterial sepsis in aquatic animals due to drug resistance and pathogenicity, which could cause high mortality and serious economic losses to the aquaculture. Sanguisorba officinalis (called DiYu in Chinese, DY) is well known as herbal medicine, which could inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria, hemostasis and regulate the immune response. Moreover, the active ingredients in DY could remarkably reduce drug resistance.

Melanocortin-3 receptor (MC3R) not only regulates energy homeostasis in animals, but also is an important regulator of inflammation. As one of the most widely farmed freshwater fish, common carp has attracted great interest for its feeding and inflammation regulation. In this study, we cloned the coding sequence (CDS) of common carp Mc3r (ccMc3r), examined its tissue expression profile, and investigated the function of this receptor in mediating downstream signaling pathways.
