Hydrogenation of levulinic acid (LA) represents a significant approach for producing the high-value biomass-based platform compound γ-valerolactone (GVL). In this study, an efficient RuIr alloy bimetallic catalyst supported on SiC was synthesized and applied for the aqueous hydrogenation of LA into GVL under mild conditions. The RuIr/SiC catalyst exhibited high LA conversion and GVL selectivity (both > 99%) in water at 0.

Utilizing lignin-derived activated carbon in supercapacitors has emerged as a promising approach to alleviating environmental pollution and promoting the high-value utilization of byproducts in the papermaking industry. In this study, activated carbons (LACs) were prepared using a simple one-step KOH activation approach and by employing enzymatic hydrolysis lignin (EHL). The impact of the KOH activation parameters on the microstructure and capacitive performance of the LACs was investigated by varying the KOH/EHL ratio and activation temperature.

In the risk assessment of water inrush from coal floors, the amount of measured data obtained through on-site testing is small and random, which limits the prediction accuracy and generalizability of a model based on measured data. Using the distribution characteristics of the measured data and mega-trend diffusion theory, we propose a virtual sample enhancement method based on class distribution mega-trend diffusion technology (CDMTD) and introduce constraints on the class distribution of influencing factors. This method was used to generate virtual samples and enhance the measured database.

Coal is a critical energy resource for global industries, and its extraction from open-pit mines requires effective slope stability management to ensure safe and efficient operations. This study evaluates the slope stability of the Tolay open-pit coal mine in Ethiopia, located in the Jimma zone, where geological conditions, including basalt, mudstone, and weathered soil layers, influence slope behaviour. The primary objective was to assess slope stability and recommend optimization strategies for safer mining.

Real-time detection of conveyor belt tearing is of great significance to ensure mining in the coal industry. The longitudinal tear damage problem of conveyor belts has the characteristics of multi-scale, abundant small targets, and complex interference sources. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of small-size tear damage detection algorithms under complex interference, a visual detection method YOLO-STOD based on deep learning was proposed.

In coal mining operations, it is often challenging to control the deformation of the roadway in front of the working face. The excessive stress from the surrounding rock of the working face and the difficulties in caving the goaf roof have led to a prominent factor that hinders safe and efficient production in coal mines. For this reason, a mechanical model of the stress field in the advance roadway of the working face is established, and the stress evolution law of the surrounding rock before and after cutting the roof of the roadway is analyzed.

Zearalenone (ZEN) is a harmful macrolide mycotoxin, posing a serious hazard to human health. In this study, a highly efficient ZEN-degrading bacterium Gordonia hydrophobica HAU421 was isolated from soil by using spiramycin (SPM)-containing selective medium. Mass spectrometry analysis revealed that strain HAU421 could transform ZEN into hydrolyzed zearalenone (HZEN), zearalenol (ZEL), and hydrolyzed zearalenol (HZEL).

Subsidence lakes, formed due to extensive underground coal mining activities, present both ecological challenges and opportunities for alternative land use practices, such as photovoltaic power generation and aquaculture. However, the ecological consequences of these anthropogenic activities on bacterial communities within subsidence lakes remain largely unexplored. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a comprehensive investigation of bacterial communities in two typical subsidence lake districts located in Huainan, Anhui Province, China.

A carbon-magnetic modified sepiolite nanocomposite (γ-FeO/SiO-Mg(OH)@BC) was synthesized using a hydrothermal method, consisting of γ-FeO, activated sludge biochar (BC), and alkali-modified sepiolite. Its ability to remove heavy metals such as Sb(V), Pb(II), Cd(II), and Zn(II) was investigated through adsorption experiments. Using response surface optimization, the optimal adsorption conditions were determined: adsorption time = 3.

: China has the world's largest internal migrant population, yet chronic disease prevalence among this group remains largely overlooked. The integration of the internal migrant population into the local society may affect their noncommunicable disease prevalences and become a challenge for the public health system. This study aimed to explore the association between the social integration of China's internal migrant population and the prevalences of chronic diseases, including hypertension and diabetes.

Manganese-based layer-structured transition metal oxides are considered promising cathode materials for future sodium batteries owing to their high energy density potential and industrial feasibility. The grain-related anisotropy and electrode/electrolyte side reactions, however, constrain their energy density and cycling lifespan, particularly at high voltages. Large-sized single-crystal O3-typed Na[NiMnCuTi]O was thus designed and successfully synthesized toward high-voltage and long-lifespan sodium batteries.

There is increasing evidence that geogenic (Earth-derived) particles can induce adverse biological effects upon inhalation, though there is high variability in particle bioreactivity that is associated with particle source and physicochemical properties. In this study, we investigated physicochemical properties and biological reactivity of volcanic ash from the April 2021 eruption of La Soufrière volcano, St.

Background: Mining functional gene modules from genomic data is an important step to detect gene members of pathways or other relations such as protein-protein interactions. This work explores the plausibility of detecting functional gene modules by factorizing gene-phenotype association matrix from the phenotype ontology data rather than the conventionally used gene expression data. Recently, the hierarchical structure of phenotype ontologies has not been sufficiently utilized in gene clustering while functionally related genes are consistently associated with phenotypes on the same path in phenotype ontologies.

Multiple active mining faces and extensive excavations under thick-hard strata in deep coal mines result in frequent strong mine earthquakes, often accompanied by significant surface subsidence deformation. Understanding the specific law of surface movement and the spatiotemporal distribution response to intense mine earthquakes is crucial for effectively preventing and mitigating dynamic disasters in deep mines. Utilizing the key layer theory, the intricate strata of the Yingpanhao Coal Mine are systematically delineated, drawing upon the engineering context of working faces 2201 and 2202 within the Ordos Chemical Co.

To effectively utilize sesbania gum in coal dust control and address the limitations of excessive viscosity and mediocre strength, oxidation treatment was used to improve its fluidity. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and sodium trimetaphosphite (STMP) were used to enhance oxidized sesbania gum OSG, and crosslinking technology was used to improve its mechanical stability. This study developed a novel foam dust suppressant OSG-PVA/SDBS by response surface design, and the optimized dust suppressant material exhibited excellent adhesion and curing properties.

The determination of optimal production capacity for open-pit mines is influenced by various economic and technical factors and is highly susceptible to uncertainties. To effectively address the impact of uncertainty on capacity planning, this study develops a production capacity planning model for open-pit coal mines, based on the theory of economies of scale and incorporating multiple uncertainty constraints. A novel method is proposed to quantify and propagate the uncertainties of key capacity control factors, alongside a comprehensive uncertainty analysis framework for total revenue.

Observation-based verification of regional/national methane (CH) emission trends is crucial for transparent monitoring and mitigation strategy planning. Although surface observations track the global and sub-hemispheric emission trends well, their sparse spatial coverage limits our ability to assess regional trends. Dense satellite observations complement surface observations, offering a valuable means to validate emission trends, especially in regions where emissions changes are substantial but debated.
