Marine fungal natural products (MFNPs) are a vital source of pharmaceuticals, primarily synthesized by relevant biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs). However, many of these BGCs remain silent under standard laboratory culture conditions, delaying the development of novel drugs from MFNPs to some extent. This review highlights recent efforts in genome mining and biosynthetic pathways of bioactive natural products from marine fungi, focusing on methods such as bioinformatics analysis, gene knockout, and heterologous expression to identify relevant BGCs and elucidate the biosynthetic pathways and enzyme functions of MFNPs.

Environ Pollut

December 2024

State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Integrated Surface Water-Groundwater Pollution Control, School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, 518055, China.

The sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB)-induced ferrihydrite transformation is an important cause for arsenic (As) contamination in the aquifer near mining area. Calcium carbonate (CaCO) is widespread and has the potential of regulating As fate directly or indirectly. However, the influence of CaCO on ferrihydrite transformation and the associated As mobilization/redistribution in SRB-containing environments remains unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the effectiveness of dual strategies using non-metal doped carbon nitride (CN) and a heterojunction with titanium carbide (TiCT) in electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) for degrading tough organic pollutants.
  • It finds that the incorporation of non-metals (like oxygen, fluorine, and silicon) and the formation of heterojunctions significantly improve the catalytic activity for the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide and peroxymonosulfate by making these substances more reactive.
  • The research highlights that certain combinations, especially O@CN/TiCF, maximize the efficiency of these reactions, with the potential to remediate harmful substances such as 2,4-D by generating effective oxidants through these advanced

Neural Netw

December 2024

College of Automation, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Nan'an District, 400065, Chongqing, China. Electronic address:

Multi-view clustering can better handle high-dimensional data by combining information from multiple views, which is important in big data mining. However, the existing models which simply perform feature fusion after feature extraction for individual views, mostly fails to capture the holistic attribute information of multi-view data due to ignoring the significant disparities among views, which seriously affects the performance of multi-view clustering. In this paper, inspired by the attention mechanism, an approach called Multi-View Fusion Clustering with Attentive Contrastive Learning (MFC-ACL) is proposed to tackle these issues.

Cadmium (Cd) and arsenic (As) often coexist in water and agricultural soils around mining areas, and it is difficult to remove them at the same time due to their opposite chemical behaviors. Therefore, this study employed a co-precipitation-pyrolysis method to synthesize silica-based magnetic biochar (SMB) materials for the remediation of water contaminated with both Cd and As. The optimization of preparation conditions involved introducing three different types of silicates (NaSiO, CaSiO,and SiO) into the biomass-magnetite mixture, followed by pyrolysis at various temperatures (300℃, 500℃, and 700℃), and the optimal preparation conditions were determined based on the composite batch experiments.
