Electronic address:

The optically pumped magnetometer (OPM) based magnetoencephalography (MEG) system offers advantages such as flexible layout and wearability. However, the position instability or jitter of OPM sensors can result in bad channels and segments, which significantly impede subsequent preprocessing and analysis. Most common methods directly reject or interpolate to repair these bad channels and segments.

A fault diagnosis method of nonlinear analog circuits is proposed that combines the generalized frequency response function (GFRF) and the simplified least squares support vector machine (LSSVM). In this study, the harmonic signal is used as an input to estimate the GFRFs. To improve the estimation accuracy, the GFRFs of an analog circuit are solved directly using time-domain data.

The curing process of hair-pin motor stator insulation is critical, as residual stress increases the risk of partial discharge and shortens a motor's lifespan. However, studies on the stress-induced defects during insulation varnish curing remain limited. This research integrates three-dimensional numerical simulations and experimental analysis to develop a curing model based on unsaturated polyester imide resin, aiming to explore the mechanisms of residual stress formation and optimization strategies.

Deep learning-based aberration compensation improves contrast and resolution in fluorescence microscopy.

Nat Commun

January 2025

Laboratory of High Resolution Optical Imaging, National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

Optical aberrations hinder fluorescence microscopy of thick samples, reducing image signal, contrast, and resolution. Here we introduce a deep learning-based strategy for aberration compensation, improving image quality without slowing image acquisition, applying additional dose, or introducing more optics. Our method (i) introduces synthetic aberrations to images acquired on the shallow side of image stacks, making them resemble those acquired deeper into the volume and (ii) trains neural networks to reverse the effect of these aberrations.

Hypergraph neural networks have gained widespread attention due to their effectiveness in handling graph-structured data with complex relationships and multi-dimensional interactions. However, existing hypergraph neural network models mainly rely on planar message-passing mechanisms, which have limitations: (i) low efficiency in encoding long-distance information; (ii) underutilization of high-order neighborhood features, aggregating information only on the edges of the original graph. This paper proposes an innovative hierarchical hypergraph neural network (HCHG) to address these issues.

The microstructure and residual mechanical properties of several groups of T92/Super304H dissimilar steel welded joints (hereinafter referred to as welded joints) in service for 70,000~85,000 h were analyzed. The results show that the early service history of the welded joint results in the polygonization of the martensite lath and the coarsening of the precipitated phase on the side of T92 steel. In the further creep process, the cavities nucleate along the precipitated phase interface and the triple junction grain boundary.

Catalytic CO desorption has emerged as a crucial strategy for enhancing the efficiency of CO capture and reducing energy requirements, thereby advancing chemical absorption methods. This study examines the catalytic effectiveness of titanium pyrophosphate (TiPO) in improving monoethanolamine (MEA)-based CO absorption and desorption processes, comparing its performance with other titanium-based catalysts, including titanium dioxide (TiO), titanium tetrahydroxide (TiO(OH)), and titanium carbide (TiC). In TiPO, Ti ions function as Lewis acid sites by accepting electron pairs (LASs), PO anions act as proton carriers, facilitating rapid proton transfer as Lewis base sites (LBSs), and active hydroxyl groups on the surface, resulting from water molecule dissociation or the deprotonation reaction, function as Brönsted acid sites (BASs).

December 2024

Huazhong Agricultural University, The Key Laboratory of Plant Pathology of Hubei Province, Shizishan 1, Hongshan District, Wuhan, HuBei, China, 430070.

The fungus Botrytis cinerea is a devastating plant pathogen that causes gray mold rot in many fruits and vegetables, leading to substantial losses globally. The pathogen induces a broad range of symptoms, making it challenging to differentiate from other pathogens, especially when plants exhibit no symptoms during visual inspection. Therefore, an efficient early warning and rapid detection system is crucial for surveillance and monitoring plant health, as well as for quantitative pathogen risk assessment to reduce microbial risks.

Since the outbreak of the new coronavirus, point-of-care diagnostics based on nucleic acid testing have become a requirement for the development of pathogen diagnostics, which require the ability to accurately, rapidly, and conveniently detect pathogens. Conventional nucleic acid amplification techniques no longer meet the requirements for pathogen detection in low-resource, low-skill environments because they require specialist equipment, complex operations, and long detection times. Therefore, recombinant polymerase amplification (RPA) is becoming an increasingly important method in today's nucleic acid detection technology because it can amplify nucleic acids in 20-30 minutes at a constant temperature, greatly reducing the dependence on specialist equipment and technicians.

This study presents a location method for buried polyethylene (PE) pipelines based on the double-tree complex wavelet cross-correlation delay. Initially, the dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT) is applied to denoise the acquired signal, followed by extracting the delay time through the cross-correlation function to locate the buried pipeline. A simulation model is established to analyze the peak values of the time-domain signals in both asymmetric and symmetric sensor layouts using COMSOL, determining the relationship between the signal time differences and pipeline positions.

Miniaturized, portable gustation interfaces for VR/AR/MR.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

December 2024

Department of Biomedical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong, Kowloong Tong, Hong Kong.

Gustation is one of the five innate sensations for humans, distinguishing from vision, auditory, tactile, and olfaction, as which is a close and chemically induced sense. Despite the fact that a handful of gustation display technologies have been developed, the new technologies still pose significant challenges in miniaturization of the overall size for portability, enriching taste options within a limited working area, supporting natural human-device interaction, and achieving precisely controlled taste feedback. To address these issues, here, we report a set of intelligent and portable lollipop-shaped taste interfacing systems covering from 2 to 9 different taste options for establishing an adjustable taste platform in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) environments.

The implementation of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) has significantly impacted the prevention of traffic accidents, particularly through the forward collision warning (FCW) algorithm. Nevertheless, traffic conflicts on traffic routes remain a significant issue, since most FCW algorithms cannot accurately determine the distance between the host vehicle (HV) and remote vehicle (RV) on curved roads. Hence, this study proposes a vector-based FCW (V-FCW) algorithm to address the issue of false warnings on unconventional road sections.
