The human body contains trillions of cells, classified into specific cell types, with diverse morphologies and functions. In addition, cells of the same type can assume different states within an individual's body during their lifetime. Understanding the complexities of the proteome in the context of a human organism and its many potential states is a necessary requirement to understanding human biology, but these complexities can neither be predicted from the genome, nor have they been systematically measurable with available technologies.

Background: In lumbar interbody fusion (LIF), achieving proper fusion status requires osteogenesis to occur in the disc space. Current LIF techniques, including anterior, oblique, lateral, transforaminal, and posterior LIF (A/O/X/T/PLIF), may result in varying osteogenesis outcomes due to differences in biomechanical characteristics.
Methods: A mechano-regulation algorithm was developed to predict the fusion processes of A/O/X/T/PLIF based on finite element modeling and iterative evaluations of the mechanobiological activities of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their differentiated cells (osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and fibroblasts).

Since the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, major innovative-oriented countries have adopted various science and technology innovation (STI) policies to address global public health challenges. Using data from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development STI Database, this study analyzed international STI policies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings revealed that the pandemic has dramatically stimulated the application of STI policies, and there are commonalities and differences in the STI policies of different countries.

Background: Malaria burden is still worrisome, while empirical evidence from malaria-eliminated countries including China may provide inspiration for the world.
Objective: This study aimed to investigate China's malaria hospitalization costs and explore its determinants.
Methods: Stratified multistage sampling across provincial, municipal, and county hospitals was conducted in 2017.

Background: The new media provides a convenient platform to access, use and exchange health information. And as a special group of health care, maternal health care is still of international concern due to their high mortality rate. Scientific research is a good way to provide advice on how to improve maternal health through stringent reasoning and accurate data.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is an international public health threat, and people's participation in disease-related preventive behaviours is the key to controlling infectious diseases. This study aimed to assess the differences in adopting preventive behaviours among populations to explore potential individual and household factors and inequalities within families.
Methods: This online survey was conducted in April 2020.

In December 2019, an outbreak of pneumonia, which was named COVID-2019, emerged as a global health crisis. Scientists worldwide are engaged in attempts to elucidate the transmission and pathogenic mechanisms of the causative coronavirus. COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization in March 2020, making it critical to track and review the state of research on COVID-19 to provide guidance for further investigations.

Comprehensive investigation on understanding geographical inequalities of healthcare resources and their influencing factors in China remains scarce. This study aimed to explore both spatial and temporal heterogeneous impacts of various socioeconomic and environmental factors on healthcare resource inequalities at a fine-scale administrative county level. We collected data on county-level hospital beds per ten thousand people to represent healthcare resources, as well as data on 32 candidate socioeconomic and environmental covariates in southwest China from 2002 to 2011.

Due to a large number of missing values, both spatially and temporally, China has not published a complete official socioeconomic statistics dataset at the county level, which is the country's basic scale of official statistics data collection. We developed a procedure to impute the missing values under the Bayesian hierarchical modeling framework. The procedure incorporates two novelties.

In order to overcome the multidrug resistance (MDR) of tumor cells, it is very important to develop nanocarriers which can effectively load drugs while releasing them in a sequential way. Herein, nanohybrids with such properties have been fabricated by a first loading of one anticancer drug onto a silicate nanodisk (Laponite (LP), 25 nm in diameter and 0.92 nm in thickness) and a subsequent assembly with a pH sensitive poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) as a protective layer, followed by a loading of with another anticancer drug.

In this study, four satellite datasets are used to investigate this discrepancy in forest cover change estimates in China between 2000 and 2013: forest cover change estimated from MODIS Normalized Burn Ratio (NBR), existing MODIS Land Cover (LC) and Vegetation Continuous Fields (VCF) products, and the Landsat-based GFC. Among these satellite datasets, forest loss shows much better agreement in terms of total change area and spatial pattern than do forest gain.

Discovery of bioactive compounds from complex mixtures is a challenge. In past decades, several strategies were developed and implemented for rapid and effective screening and characterization of bioactive components in complex matrices. This review mainly focused on the online strategies, which integrated the separation science, mass spectrometry, and bioactivity screening in a single platform, allowing simultaneous screening and characterization of active compounds from complex matrices, especially from the herbs.

Snow chrysanthemum (Coreopsis tinctoria Nutt.), a world-widely well-known flower tea material, has attracted more and more attention because of its beneficial health effects such as antioxidant activity and special flavor. In this study, a high performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detection and mass spectrometry (HPLC-DAD-MS) and 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-sulfonic acid)diammonium salt (ABTS) based assay was employed for comparison and identification of antioxidants in different samples of snow chrysanthemum.

Objective: To construct an immune alpaca phage display library, in order to obtain a single domain anti-BAFF (B cell-activating factor) antibody.
Methods: Using phage display technology, we constructed an immune alpaca phage display library, selected anti-BAFF single domain antibodies (sdAbs), cloned three anti-BAFF single-domain antibody genes into expression vector pSJF2, and expressed them efficiently in Escherichia coli. The affinity of different anti-BAFF sdAbs were measured by Bio layer interferometry.
