This work focused on the separation of the active ingredients of maca ( Walpers) and evaluated the antioxidative capability of these components with effects on improving glucose and lipid metabolism in insulin-resistant HepG2 cells. DPPH free radical scavenging and reducing power assays were used to evaluate the antioxidant activity of maca extracts. An insulin-resistant HepG2 cell model induced by glucose, fructose, oleic acid, and palmitic acid was adopted to investigate the effects of maca extracts on regulating glucose and lipid metabolism in this study.

Two strains of a new mucoralean fungus (M1 and R1) were harvested from the moist walls of Sufu workshop in Liaocheng city, Shandong province, China. Internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and the large subunit (LSU) rDNA region D1/D2 domain-based phylogenetic analysis, along with phenotypic characteristics, revealed that the strains belonged to a new genus in the Mucor category. This new category belongs to Mucor flavus complex.

This study evaluates the protective role of oyster peptide (OP) on the occurrence of Exercise-Hypogonadal Male Condition. Male rats were given heavy-load swimming training and / or OP was supplemented for 6 consecutive weeks. After heavy-load training, sperm count, sperm viability and sperm motility in epididymis, testosterone in serum and testis, glutathione peroxidase (GSH-px) and androgen receptor (AR) in testis and mating times were remarkably decreased, malondialdehyde (MDA), capture latency and mating latency were significantly increased, mRNA expression of steroidogenic acute regulatory (StAR) and P450 cholesterol side-chain cleavage enzyme (P450scc) were obviously down-regulated, but serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH) were not statistically changed.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of oyster oligopeptide (OOP) at different doses on testosterone secretion and its regulating mechanism in partial androgen deficiency syndrome of aging male.
Methods: The cyclophosphamide-induced partial androgen deficiency syndrome of the aging male rats were treated with a low, medium and high dose of OOP for 6 weeks.
Results: Cyclophosphamide could decrease levels of total testosterone and luteinizing hormone in serum, and testosterone and glutathione peroxidase in testis, and increase malondialdehyde, and downregulate the mRNA expression of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein, steroidogenic acute regulatory-related lipid transfer domain 7 and P450 cholesterol side chain cleavage enzyme in testis (P < 0.

This study evaluated the effect of cooling rate on starch recrystallization in the presence of 2,3-butanedione and 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, which could form B-type and V-type complexes with starch, respectively. Rapid cooling resulted in poor perfection and high heterogeneity of both B-type and V-type recrystallized crystal. For B-type crystal, rapid cooling changed nucleation mode from instantaneous (Avrami index n < 1) to continuous mechanism (1 ≤ n ≤ 2), and decreased recrystallization rate from 0.

The purpose of this experiment was to analyze the microbial community diversity in three Daqu samples displaying different characteristics in the same Daqu fermentation chamber. A high throughput sequencing technique was used to detect the microbial abundance and diversity in these Daqu samples. Of the three samples, the microbial diversity in the Black sample (sample B) was significantly higher than in the other two.

Background: Anthocyanins were extracted from grape skins by a combination of ethanolic-ultrasonic assisted methods and were then encapsulated by freeze-drying in soy phosphatidylcholine vesicles with the addition of different polymers, such as pectin, acacia gum, and whey protein isolate. The goal of this research was to microencapsulate anthocyanin compounds extracted from grape skins, to characterize the stability and behavior of the vesicles and then to use them to obtain a new light formulated mayonnaise.
Results: The particle size ranged from 900 nm in the control condition to 250 nm in vesicles loaded with whey proteins.

This study assessed the melanogenesis effects of rice protein hydrolysate (RPH) and explored the underlying molecular mechanism of its characteristic peptides. In this investigation, human epidermal melanocyte (PIG1) cells were used to establish a UVB-induced model to evaluate the effect of RPH on melanin content, tyrosinase activity, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. High performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was employed to identify the peptide composition (2-4 amino acids) in RPH.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of oyster peptides and oyster powder on the procreative capacity of rats displaying reproductive dysfunction induced by cyclophosphamide (CTX). The amino acid composition and relative molecular mass of the oyster peptides and oyster powder were detected using an automatic amino acid analyzer and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). After 5 d of exposure to CTX and six weeks of oyster peptide and oyster powder treatment, the biochemical serum indexes of the rats, the expression of related genes and proteins in the testes, as well as the antioxidant status and pathological state of the testes and kidneys were examined.

Rose pomace, a by-product of the essential oil extraction process, is rich in dietary fiber. Insoluble dietary fiber (IDF) extracted from rose pomace was modified by enzymatic hydrolysis (EH) and ultrasound-assisted enzymatic hydrolysis (UEH) methods, and their physicochemical, functional, and microstructural properties were studied. The results showed that EH treatment performed better in the yield of soluble dietary fiber and the glucose adsorption capacity than UEH which contributed to better oil-holding, swelling, cation-exchange, and cholesterol adsorption capacities.

Introduction And Objectives: The production and consumption of oysters is increasing annually because it can provide essential nutrients and benefit for human health, leading to frequent occurrence of severe allergic reactions observed in sensitized individuals. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of acid and protease treatment on the conformation and IgE-binding capacity of recombinant Crassostrea gigas tropomyosin (Cra g 1).
Results: Under acidic conditions, Cra g 1 did not undergo degradation, however, the changes obvious in the intensity of CD signal and ANS-binding fluorescence were observed, which was associated with a decrease in antibody reactivity.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the hypoglycemic effects of Pea oligopeptide on the glycemic and lipidemic status of mice with type 2 diabetes (T2D) induced by a high-fat diet and streptozotocin (STZ). Using HPLC-MS/MS spectra processing, 70 significant peptide (2-3 amino acids) sequences were identified, noting four peptides from Pea oligopeptide with a proline residue at the C-terminus, which might have dipeptidase-IV (DPP-IV) inhibitory activity for the treatment of T2D. After a 4-week administration of Pea oligopeptide and metformin, various blood biochemical indexes and organic histopathologies were detected to aid the discussion regarding potential mechanisms.
