Here we covalently constructed abundant long-chain hydroxyl groups-functionalized magnetic microporous organic networks (MMON-2OH) for detection of eight Triazine herbicides (THs) in honey and water samples. MMON-2OH owned a high surface area (287.86 m²/g), enhanced water compatibility, and increased exposure of long-chain hydroxyl groups, which significantly improved enrichment capacity for THs.

While the role of flies as potential vectors for bacterial transmission is well recognized, the epidemiological features and genomic characteristics of associated antimicrobial-resistant strains remain underexplored. This study conducted a nationwide surveillance including 3689 flies and 838 isolates from sixteen human communities (HCs) and eight animal farms (AFs) across 21 provinces in China. Our findings revealed high carriage rates of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) in flies, with 27.

Pre-cut fresh fruits and vegetables are highly appealing to consumers for their convenience, however, as they are highly susceptible to microbial contamination in processing, the potential risks of foodborne illnesses to public health are not negligible. This study aimed to assess the prevalence, antibiotic susceptibility and molecular characteristics of major foodborne pathogens (Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella) isolated from fresh-cut fruits and vegetables in Beijing, China. 86 stains were isolated from 326 samples, with S.

Prevalent in marine, estuarine and coastal environments, Vibrio parahaemolyticus is one of the major foodborne pathogens which can cause acute gastroenteritis through consumption of contaminated food. This study encompassed antimicrobial resistance, molecular characteristics and phylogenetic relationships of 163 V. parahaemolyticus isolated from aquatic foods across 15 provinces in China.

Microporous organic networks (MONs) are highly porous materials that are particularly useful in analytical chemistry. However, the use of these materials is often limited by the functional groups available on their surface. Here, we described the polymerization of a sea urchin-like structure material at ambient temperature, that was functionalized with hydroxyl, carboxyl, and triazine groups and denoted as OH-COOH-MON-TEPT.

Objective: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is caused by both genetic and cardiometabolic risk factors. However, the magnitude of the genetic predisposition of T2D in the Chinese population remains largely unknown.
Methods: This study included 93,488 participants from the China Kadoorie Biobank, and multiple polygenic risk scores (PRS) were calculated.

Food safety in China has been significantly improved since the melamine crisis in 2008 and the promulgation of the first Food Safety Law in 2009. However, food safety is a long standing issue in China due to the backward productive structure of agriculture and food business. In order to further improve the food safety in China, it is critical to reach a consensus on the leading edge concept of food safety and the identification of priority areas based on the concept.

Purpose: There is limited and inconsistent evidence about the relationships of erythrocyte polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) with stroke and stroke types, particularly in China where the stroke rates are high. We aimed to investigate the associations of different erythrocyte PUFAs with incidence of total stroke, ischemic stroke (IS), and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in Chinese adults.
Methods: In the prospective China Kadoorie Biobank, erythrocyte PUFAs were measured using gas chromatography in 10,563 participants who attended 2013-14 resurvey.

An antibiotic susceptibility monitoring programme was conducted from 2004 to 2010, resulting in a collection of 143 cultured from bovine faecal samples (diarrhoea) and milk-aliquots (mastitis). The isolates were subjected to whole-genome sequencing and were distributed in phylogroups A, B1, B2, C, D, E, and G with no correlation for particular genotypes with pathotypes. In fact, the population structure showed that the strains belonging to the different phylogroups matched broadly to ST complexes; however, the isolates are randomly associated with the diseases, highlighting the necessity to investigate the virulence factors more accurately in order to identify the mechanisms by which they cause disease.

A novel magnetic covalent organic framework (NH-FeO@COF) was prepared using a simple room-temperature synthesis in this study. These magnetic particles exhibited high adsorption performance with short adsorption time (10 min) for six benzoylurea insecticides (BUs) as magnetic solid-phase extraction (MSPE) adsorbents. Quantum chemistry calculation demonstrated that adsorption mechanism was primarily attributed to strong halogen bonds between electronegative O atoms of COF and electropositive F atoms of BUs as well as potential hydrophobic effect.

Food and environmental safety issues attributable to the polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are gaining increasing attention, and these urge us to establish a high-performance sample-handling technique. In this study, an outstanding adsorption performance with short adsorption time (10 min) was achieved for PBDEs using a novel synthesized dispersive solid-phase extraction adsorbent, a reticulated covalent organic framework with N/O functional groups (i.e.

Deoxynivalenol (DON), along with 3-acetyl-deoxynivalenol (3-ADON) and 15-acetyl-deoxynivalenol (15-ADON), occur in grains and cereal products and is often hazardous to humans and livestock. In this study, 579 wheat samples and 606 maize samples intended for consumption were collected from China in 2017 and analyzed to determine the co-occurrence of type-B trichothecenes (DON, 3-ADON, and 15-ADON). All the wheat samples tested positive for DON, while 99.

Objective: The application of bowel movement frequency (BMF) in primary care is limited by the lack of solid evidence about the associations of BMF with health outcomes apart from Parkinson's disease and colorectal cancer. We examined the prospective associations of BMF with major vascular and non-vascular diseases outside the digestive system.
Design: Population-based prospective cohort study.

Cadmium (Cd) is a well-characterized toxic heavy metal which could cause severe kidney injury. However, currently the knowledge of Cd toxicity towards kidney is still insufficient. Our previous data has identified that MT1DP (metallothionein 1D pseudogene) could promote Cd-induced detrimental effects on hepatocytes.

Nε-(carboxymethyl)lysine (CML) is a potentially noxious compound that is causing widespread concern due to its use in various food products. In this study, we investigated CML neurotoxicity via an in vivo experiment with mice, and an in vitro experiment using a 3D microvascular network model (with human brain vascular endothelial cell and human astrocyte) that simulated the blood-brain barrier. We found that CML could induce cell survival status variations, and histopathological changes to the brain.

Background: Adherence to a healthy lifestyle is associated with substantially lower risks of mortality from all causes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer in white populations. However, little is known about the health benefits among non-white populations. Also, no previous studies have focused on respiratory disease mortality in both white and non-white populations.

Cadmium-contaminated rice has been a serious food safety issue in China. In this research, carboxymethyl rice starch (CMS) from cadmium-contaminated rice and native rice was prepared to remove the cadmium in rice. The preparation of native rice starch (NRS) and starch from cadmium-contaminated rice (Cd-CRS) was similar, and carboxymethyl starch was prepared following the same steps.

A pesticide microcapsule was prepared by encapsulating avermectin (AVM) in a polyurea microcapsule via interfacial polymerization in acetic ether/water emulsion. The polyurea microcapsule was consisted of chitosan oligomer (CO) as the membrane material and diphenyl methane-4,4'-diisocyanate (MDI) as the crosslinker. A chemical modification was carried out by grafting a UV-absorbent, 3,3',4,4'-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride (BTDA), to CO before interfacial polymerization to enhance the UV-resistance of the microcapsule.
