Reports of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)-related liver injury have increased over recent years; however, identifying susceptibility-related components and biomarkers remains challenging due to the heterogeneous nature of TCM and idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (IDILI). (PF) and (EF), commonly found in TCM prescriptions, have been implicated in IDILI, but their constituents and underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. In this study, we identified bavachin (Bav) and icariin (Ica) as susceptibility components for IDILI in PF and EF using a TNF-α-mediated mouse model.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Linderae Radix (Lindera aggregata (Sims) Kosterm) is a traditional Chinese medicine known for its capability to regulate qi and relieve pain, particularly in the context of gastrointestinal disorders.
Aim Of The Study: While our previous research has demonstrated the efficacy of the Linderae Radix water extract (LRWE) in the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D), the precise mechanisms remain elusive. This study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the therapeutic effects of LRWE on IBS-D through multi-omics techniques.

Reports on Chinese patent medicines preparations containing Epimedii Folium (EF) and Psoraleae Fructus (PF) resulting in idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (IDILI) have received widespread attention. Previous studies have shown that bavachin and epimedin B-two active ingredients derived from both EF and PF-are potential components associated with IDILI, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear. We evaluated bavachin and epimedin B-induced IDILI under TNF-α-mediated immunological stress conditions and generated liver lipid metabolism profiles using lipidomics and multivariate statistical analysis.

Herbs are widely used worldwide. However, inappropriate use of some of the herbs can lead to herb-induced liver injury (HILI). Intriguingly, HILI incidents are on the rise, and our understanding of the underlying etiologies is in progress, and hence, an update on the current status of incidents as well as our understanding on the etiologies of HILI is appropriate.

Pharmaceutical analysis is a discipline based on chemical, physical, biological, and information technologies. At present, biotechnological analysis is a short branch in pharmaceutical analysis; however, bioanalysis is the basis and an important part of medicine. Biotechnological approaches can provide information on biological activity and even clinical efficacy and safety, which are important characteristics of drug quality.

Lung cancer poses a serious threat to human health. Although targeted therapies have led to breakthroughs in the treatment of lung cancer, drug resistance and side effects limit their clinical applications. Xihuang pill (XHW), a classical anti-cancer traditional Chinese medicine formula, has been clinically proven to be an effective complementary therapy in the treatment of various of cancers.

Drug-related adverse reactions are among the main reasons for harm to patients under care worldwide and even their deaths. The pharmacovigilance system has been proven to be an effective method of avoiding or alleviating such adverse events. In 2019, after two decades of implementation of the drug-related adverse reaction reporting system, China formally implemented a pharmacovigilance system with the Pharmacovigilance Quality Management Standards and a series of supporting technical documents created to improve the safety of medication given to patients.

The output of high level innovative Chinese medicines(CM) is very rare for a few years, which is in sharp contrast to the reality that antibody drugs, small molecular targeted therapy, antibody-drug conjugate and other innovative drugs have heavy investment and high yield. Acceleration for the research and development of innovative CM drugs obviously relies on breakthrough of the modes of thinking and methodology. Deeply influenced by the thinking of allopathic medicine in Western science system, the mainstream of current basic researches on CM is to find the components and their molecular mechanisms that can directly inhibit or antagonize the target in disease focal.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Keguan-1, a new traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription contained seven Chinese herbs, is developed to treat coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19). The first internationally registered COVID-19 randomised clinical trial on integrated therapy demonstrated that Keguan-1 significantly reduced the incidence of ARDS and inhibited the severe progression of COVID-19.
Aim Of The Study: To investigate the protective mechanism of Keguan-1 on ARDS, a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury (ALI) model was used to simulate the pathological state of ARDS in patients with COVID-19, focusing on its effect and mechanism on ALI.

Early identification of individuals susceptible to idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (IDILI) is a challenging unmet demand. Diclofenac, one of the most widely available over-the-counter drugs for pain management worldwide, may induce liver dysfunction, acute liver failure, and death. Herein, we report that diclofenac-related hepatobiliary adverse reactions occurred more frequently in cases with immune activation.

Objective: To compare the risk of liver-related adverse drug reactions (ADRs) in children and adults.
Study Design: A case/non-case analysis on spontaneous reports based on the China National Adverse Drug Reactions Monitoring System database were conducted, focusing on events of liver-related ADRs in children younger than 14 years of age. Green tea extract (GTE) is popular in weight loss, and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is considered as the main active component. However, GTE is the primary cause of herbal and dietary supplement-induced liver injury in the United States. Whether there is a greater risk of liver injury when EGCG is consumed during dieting for weight loss has not been previously reported.
