Background: Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) is a new behavioral addiction. A large number of empirical studies have shown that Internet Gaming Disorder has a high level of comorbidity with other diseases, including depression, anxiety, obesity, internalizing and externalizing behavioral problems, however, little is known about the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relation. The current study adopted a three-time longitudinal study investing the mediating effect of relative deprivation on the association between peer rejection and IGD, and whether this mediating effect was moderated by the grit.

This study aimed to explore differences in static and dynamic intrinsic functional connectivity and temporal dynamics between patients with ACS and those without carotid stenosis.
Methods: We recruited 30 patients with unilateral moderate-to-severe (stenosis ≥ 50%) ACS and 30 demographically-matched healthy controls.

Silk protein, as a natural polymer material with unique structures and properties, exhibits tremendous potential in the biomedical field. Given the limited production and restricted properties of natural silk proteins, molecular biotechnology has been extensively applied in silk protein genetic engineering to produce novel silk proteins with specific properties. This review outlines the roles of major model organisms, such as silkworms and spiders, in silk protein production, and provides a detailed introduction to the applications of gene editing technologies (eg, CRISPR-Cas9), transgenic expression technologies, and synthetic biology techniques in silk protein genetic engineering.

A bioassay-guided chemical investigation of the endophytic fungus F5 resulted in the discovery of two novel sesquiterpenes, chamilactones A and B ( and ), with a new 9,10-seco-15--isoilludalane carbon skeleton, together with several biosynthetically related precursors (-). Their structures and absolute configurations were elucidated by the analysis of MS, NMR, calculated C chemical shifts, ECD calculations, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction data. It was proposed that an unprecedented carbon-carbon bond cleavage between C-9 and C-10 in - was the key step in the biosynthetic pathway of and .

Prenatal exposure to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) has been linked to adverse fetal growth and development. However, most evidence was generated based on the singleton pregnancy studies, whereas potential impact on twin fetuses remains largely unknown. This study aimed to explore the associations of prenatal PFAS exposure with the growth and developmental differences within twin pairs by investigating 162 twin newborns and their mothers and determining 19 PFASs in maternal serum during the first, second, and third trimesters and cord serum of twins.

Methods based on enzyme labelling strategies have been widely developed for capacitance immunoassays, but most suffer from low sensitivity and are unfavorable for routine use in the early stages of diagnostics. Herein, we designed a highly efficient capacitance immunosensing method for the low-abundance neuroblastoma biomarker neuron-specific enolase (NSE) using an interdigitated micro-comb electrode. Initially, monoclonal mouse anti-human NSE capture antibodies were immobilized on the interdigitated gold electrodes using bovine serum albumin.

The aim of this study was to assess the utility of weighted amide proton transfer (APT) MRI in three different rodent models of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). APT MRI was evaluated in models of diethylnitrosamine (DEN) induced HCC, N1S1 syngeneic orthotopic xenograft and human HepG2 ectopic xenograft. All models of HCC showed a higher APT signal over the surrounding normal tissues.

Linker structures are a crucial component of proteolysis-targeting chimeras (PROTACs) and have traditionally been designed based on empirical methods, which presents significant challenges in the development of PROTACs. Current optimization strategies typically focus on reducing the number of rotatable bonds in the linker to limit conformational freedom. However, this approach overlooks the complexity of the target protein degradation process.

Activities of the chloroplasts and nucleus are coordinated by retrograde signaling, which has crucial roles in plant development and environmental adaptation. However, the connection between chloroplast status and nuclear genome stability is not well understood. Chloroplast state transitions allow the plant to balance the absorption capacity of the photosystems in an environment in which the light quality was changing.

Background: The reverse shock index multiplied by simplified motor score (rSI-sMS) is a novel and rapid measure for assessing injury severity in patients with trauma in prehospital settings; however, its discriminant ability requires further validation.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted from trauma database of Taipei Tzu Chi Hospital to compare the accuracy of the rSI-sMS with that of the shock index, modified shock index, reverse shock index multiplied by the Glasgow Coma Scale (rSI-GCS), and the reverse shock index multiplied by GCS motor subscale (rSI-GCSM) for discriminating in-hospital mortality, intensive care unit (ICU) admissions, prolonged ICU stays ≥14 days, and prolonged hospital stays ≥30 days in patients with trauma.
Results: A total of 11,760 patients from the trauma database were included.

Prohibitins (PHBs) are members of a highly conserved family of proteins, including prohibitin1 and prohibitin2. These proteins are predominantly localized in mitochondria, the nucleus, and cell membranes, where they play critical roles in mitochondrial biogenesis, apoptosis, immune regulation, and other biological processes. Recent studies have demonstrated that both PHB1 and PHB2 can act as a complex or independently to participate in the pathogen infection process.

Aim: Subsolid nodules are increasingly detected during physical examinations with computed tomography (CT) scan and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is the standard treatment. This study compared the effectiveness of preoperative localisation of subsolid pulmonary nodules using a hook-wire and a microcoil under CT guidance prior to VATS.
Materials And Methods: Patients with solitary subsolid pulmonary nodules (n = 342) underwent percutaneous puncture localisation guided by CT before VATS.

To explore the intergenerational cardiotoxicity of nanoplastics, maternal mice were exposed to 60 nm polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NP) during pregnancy and lactation. The results showed that PS-NP can enter the hearts of offspring and induce myocardial fiber arrangement disorder, acidophilic degeneration of cardiomyocytes, and elevated creatine kinase isoenzymes (CK-MB) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels after maternal exposure to PS-NP at 100 mg/kg during pregnancy and lactation. Mechanistically, KEGG analysis of RNA sequencing showed the participation of hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) and ferroptosis in PS-NP-induced cardiotoxicity.

Background: Many tools have been developed to predict the risk of diabetes in a population without diabetes; however, these tools have shortcomings that include the omission of race, inclusion of variables that are not readily available to patients, and low sensitivity or specificity.
Objective: We aimed to develop and validate an easy, systematic index for predicting diabetes risk in the Asian population.
Methods: We collected the data from the NAGALA (NAfld [nonalcoholic fatty liver disease] in the Gifu Area, Longitudinal Analysis) database.

Background: The dynein cytoplasmic two heavy chain 1 (DYNC2H1) gene encodes a cytoplasmic dynein subunit. Cytoplasmic dyneins transport cargo towards the minus end of microtubules and are thus termed the "retrograde" cellular motor. Mutations in DYNC2H1 are the main causative mutations of short rib-thoracic dysplasia syndrome type III with or without polydactyly (SRTD3).

Background: Closed head injury (CHI) provokes a prominent neuroinflammation that may lead to long-term health consequences. Microglia plays pivotal and complex roles in neuroinflammation-mediated neuronal insult and repair following CHI. We previously reported that induced neural stem cells (iNSCs) can block the effects of CXCL12/CXCR4 signaling on NF-κB activation in activated microglia by CXCR4 overexpression.
