Background: Visual vertigo (VV) is a disease characterized by various visual signal-induced discomforts, including dizziness, unsteady balance, activity avoiding, and so forth. Distinguishing it from other kinds of dizziness is important because it needs the combination of visual training and vestibular rehabilitation together. However, there is no appropriate tool to diagnose VV in China, thus we would like to introduce an effective tool to China.

Axially chiral open-chained olefins are an underexplored class of atropisomers, whose enantioselective synthesis represents a daunting challenge due to their relatively low racemization barrier. We herein report rhodium(I)-catalyzed hydroarylative cyclization of 1,6-diynes with three distinct classes of arenes, enabling highly enantioselective synthesis of a broad range of axially chiral 1,3-dienes that are conformationally labile (ΔG (rac)=26.6-28.

Drug resistance poses a great challenge in systemic therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the underlying molecular mechanisms associated with resistance to anti-cancer drugs, such as Sorafenib, remain unclear. In this study, we use transposon insertional mutagenesis to generate Sorafenib-resistant HCC cell lines in order to identify potential drug resistant causative genes.

The Omicron variant of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS‑CoV‑2) infected a substantial proportion of Chinese population, and understanding the factors underlying the severity of the disease and fatality is valuable for future prevention and clinical treatment. We recruited 64 patients with invasive ventilation for COVID-19 and performed metatranscriptomic sequencing to profile host transcriptomic profiles, plus viral, bacterial, and fungal content, as well as virulence factors and examined their relationships to 28-day mortality were examined. In addition, the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) samples from invasive ventilated hospital/community-acquired pneumonia patients (HAP/CAP) sampled in 2019 were included for comparison.

Simulation of double resonant excitation of ions in an asymmetric linear ion trap mass analyzer.

Rapid Commun Mass Spectrom

December 2023

School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Soochow University, Suzhou, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on improving the analytical performance of linear ion traps (LITs) using a double resonant excitation method in an asymmetric LIT design.
  • By adjusting the x electrode and applying specific alternating voltages to both x and y electrodes, researchers achieved a more efficient release of ions and better mass resolution.
  • Results showed that the mass resolution increased to ~3800, more than double the previous method, while maintaining around 90% efficiency in ejecting ions, suggesting this technique could enhance ion detection in LIT mass spectrometers overall.

Rhodium-Catalyzed Enantioselective Formal [4+1] Cyclization of Benzyl Alcohols and Benzaldimines: Facile Access to Silicon-Stereogenic Heterocycles.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Institute of Molecular Sciences and Engineering, Institute of Frontier and Interdisciplinary Science, Shandong University, Qingdao, 266237, China.

The carbon-to-silicon switch in formation of bioactive sila-heterocycles with a silicon-stereogenic center has garnered significant interest in drug discovery. However, metal-catalyzed synthesis of such scaffolds is still in its infancy. Herein, a rhodium-catalyzed enantioselective formal [4+1] cyclization of benzyl alcohols and benzaldimines has been realized by enantioselective difunctionalization of a secondary silane reagent, affording chiral-at-silicon cyclic silyl ethers and sila-isoindolines, respectively.

We present herein a rare case of large vascular and cardiac metastases of low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LG-ESS) in a female patient, which occurred after misdiagnosis of endometrial stromal nodule (ESN) as submucosal leiomyoma 7 years ago. Preoperative three-dimensional CT reconstruction was used to assess the extent of the lesion. The patient underwent radical resection: thrombectomy and total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy without establishing the cardiopulmonary bypass.

Zearalenone (ZEN) is well known as a kind of endocrine disruptor whose exposure is capable of causing reproductive toxicity in animals. Cyanidin-3--glucoside (C3G) is a derivative of cyanidin and owns multiple biofunctions, and prior efforts have suggested that C3G has therapeutic actions for reproductive diseases. In this article, a ZEN exposure model during primordial follicle assembly was constructed using the culture platform of neonatal mouse ovaries.

  • Temozolomide (TMZ) resistance is a major hurdle in treating gliomas, and this study investigates the role of lysine demethylase 4A (KDM4A) in this context.
  • Researchers tested KDM4A levels in glioma cells and examined how targeting KDM4A with siRNA affects cell viability and TMZ effectiveness.
  • The study found that KDM4A enhances TMZ resistance by promoting ROCK2 expression and interacting with HUWE1, suggesting that targeting KDM4A could improve glioma treatment outcomes.

Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates whether preserving the pectoralis major fascia (PMF) during surgery affects long-term cancer outcomes in breast cancer patients who had immediate implant-based breast reconstruction (IBBR) following a conservative mastectomy.* -
  • By analyzing data from women with early-stage breast cancer treated from 2014 to 2019, researchers found no significant differences in locoregional recurrence-free survival, disease-free survival, distant metastasis-free survival, or overall survival between those who had the PMF preserved and those who did not.* -
  • The conclusion suggests that preserving the PMF does not adversely affect long-term oncologic outcomes, indicating it may be safe to maintain this structure during surgery if there are no signs of tumor invasion

Article Synopsis
  • Five new halophilic archaeal strains were discovered in salt lakes in China, showing low genetic similarities (91.3-96.0%) to existing species and likely representing a new genus.
  • Phylogenetic analysis confirmed these strains form a separate clade, with genetic metrics indicating they don't fit within current species levels, reinforcing their classification as a new genus.
  • The strains exhibit distinct phenotypic traits and contain specific lipids, leading to their identification as five novel species within this proposed new genus.

A kinetic theory is developed to describe the longitudinal decay of two-ion decay (TID): The pump ion-acoustic wave (IAW) decays into two daughter IAWs with a longer wavelength. The instability growth rate and threshold are given by the theory. Both the simulations of full kinetic Vlasov and hybrid Vlasov (kinetic ions and Boltzmann electrons) are employed to verify the theory and have a high quantitative agreement with the theory for 8≤ZT_{e}/T_{i}≤15, where Z is the ion charge number and T_{i}(T_{e}) is the ion (electron) temperature.
