Article Synopsis
  • Monkeypox (MPOX) is caused by the Orthopoxvirus monkeypox (MPXV) and presents symptoms akin to smallpox, with ongoing outbreaks raising global public health concerns, especially in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and recently in China.
  • A new lineage of MPXV (C.1.1) was identified from samples in a Nantong outbreak, possibly linked to cases imported from Japan.
  • Genomic analysis revealed reduced mutations in MPXV and specific mutations in proteins that could affect its evolution and vaccine development, indicating potential research directions for understanding the virus.

A twenty-year dataset of hourly energy generation and consumption from district campus building energy systems.

Sci Data

December 2024

Innovation Institute for Sustainable Maritime Architecture Research and Technology, Qingdao University of Technology, Qingdao, China.

Distributed energy resources (DERs) would play a crucial role in the transition towards decentralized and decarbonized energy systems. However, due to the limited availability of long-term, high-resolution datasets, there has been little research on the descriptive analysis of distributed energy systems throughout the lifespan of distributed power generators and beyond. To address this challenge, this study has collected and described a twenty-year dataset (from 2002 to 2021) consisting of hourly energy generation and consumption profiles from a campus distributed energy system, covering the entire lifespan of on-site generators.

FOXO proteins, especially FOXO1 and FOXO3, are recognized for their roles in controlling apoptosis and autophagy. Both apoptosis and autophagy have been induced in granulosa cells (GCs) by hypoxic conditions in ovarian follicles; however, the exact contribution of FOXO proteins and autophagy to the regulation of GCs apoptosis under hypoxia remains unclear. In this investigation of porcine GCs, we reveal that FOXO1 promotes apoptosis in response to hypoxia through FOXO3-dependent autophagy.

Article Synopsis
  • The import of nuclear-encoded preproteins into chloroplasts is crucial for normal plant function and is facilitated by specific receptors known as Toc GTPases.
  • Researchers identified seven Toc GTPase genes in tomatoes, categorized into two subclasses, which are involved in tissue expression and hormonal responses.
  • Silencing the SIToc34-1 gene led to lighter green tomato fruits and reduced chlorophyll, suggesting its vital role in early chloroplast development and gene expression related to photosynthesis.
