Micro(nano)plastics (MNPs), widely distributed in the environment, can be ingested and accumulated by various organisms. Recently, the transgenerational transport of MNPs from parental organisms to their offspring has attracted increasing attention. In this review, we summarize the patterns, specific pathways, and related mechanisms of intergenerational transfer of MNPs in plants, non-mammals (zooplankton and fish) and mammals.

Glyphosate is a non-selective herbicide widely used in agriculture, and its overexposure poses significant health and environmental risks. Herein, a novel Cu-coordinated fluorescent sensing system (HYBC-Cu system) based on acylhydrazone groups was designed, capable of glyphosate-specific recognition. The HYBC-Cu system was constructed with simple steps, with the advantages of short recognition time (< 1 min), good specificity, anti-interference, and excellent sensitivity (LOD = 95 nM).

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are a class of persistent organic pollutants that may pose risks to human health and environmental biota, including soil microbial communities. These risks are further affected by a multitude of factors, including environmental conditions encountered in real-world settings. A comprehensive understanding of how PBDEs transform and microbial communities respond to the exposure under varying environmental conditions is paramount for assessing the ecological risks or identifying potential degraders.

Processed cheese faces challenges related to short shelf life and susceptibility to microbial contamination during room temperature storage. Nisin, a natural antimicrobial peptide used for food preservation, exhibits limited sustained activity and a narrow antimicrobial spectrum, making its enhancement essential. To address these issues, this study employed electrostatic self-assembly technology to develop chitosan-pectin nanoparticles loaded with nisin (CNP) to improve processed cheese stability at room temperature.

This work revealed the effects of endogenous proteins on the structural, physicochemical, and digestive properties of starch in corn before and after ripening and explored the binding mechanism of proteins with starch. The microstructure showed that the postharvest ripening process resulted in a thinning of the protein layer on the surface of starch particle. After the removal of protein, the uniformity of the sample surface increased, with tiny pores.

Ethiprole is a second-generation phenylpyrazole insecticide used in agricultural production as an alternative to fipronil due to its lower toxicity to bees. Ethiprole amide is chiral metabolite of ethiprole, but information regarding its formation and degradation in vegetables is limited. Here, the absolute configuration of ethiprole amide enantiomer was determined through circular dichroism, and the behaviors of chiral ethiprole and its metabolites in five kinds of vegetables were studied through field experiments.

Aptamers, a kind of short nucleotide sequences with high specificity and affinity with targets, have attracted extensive attention in recent years. Molecular docking method (MDM) is the most common method to explore the binding mode and recognition mechanism of aptamers and small molecules, which generally use the target to dock with the highest scoring tertiary structural model of the aptamer, and the highest scoring result is used as the predicted model. However, this prediction results may miss out the true interaction pattern due to the fact that aptamers are not completely rigid and the natural aptamers conformations are not in a single state.

Follicular fluid-derived meiosis-activating sterol (FF-MAS), an intermediate in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway, plays a crucial role in the meiotic resumption of mammalian oocytes. Maintaining a high concentration of FF-MAS in vitro is challenging; therefore, AY9944 A-7, an inhibitor of Δ14-reductase [which converts FF-MAS to testis meiosis-activating sterol (T-MAS)] and Δ7-reductase (which converts T-MAS to cholesterol), has been used to enhance oocyte maturation. This study examined the effects of various concentrations (0, 10, 20, and 40 μM) of AY9944 A-7 on porcine oocyte maturation and subsequent embryo development.

It is well-known that the use of vocabulary in phenotype treatments is often inconsistent. An earlier survey of biologists who create or use phenotypic characters revealed that this lack of standardization leads to ambiguities, frustrating both the consumers and producers of phenotypic data. Such ambiguities are challenging for biologists, and more so for Artificial Intelligence, to resolve.

Insect melanization triggered by the conversion of prophenoloxidase to active phenoloxidase via serine proteases (SPs) is an important immediate immune response. However, how phytoplasmas evade this immune response to promote their propagation in insect vectors remains unknown. Here, we demonstrate that infection of leafhopper vectors with rice orange leaf phytoplasma (ROLP) activates the mild melanization response in hemolymph.

Antibiotic resistance is a critical global public health issue. The gut microbiome acts as a reservoir for numerous antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), which influence both existing and future microbial populations within a community or ecosystem. However, the differences in ARG expression between fresh and composted feces remain poorly understood.

The broader use of botanical pesticides has been limited by shorter residual activity on plants, slower onset of action, and higher costs compared with conventional pesticides. These challenges could be overcome by the development of simple, cost-effective, and long-lasting preventive nanocomposites for botanical pesticides. In this study, we successfully developed a low-cost ethyl cellulose (EC)-based delivery system for the botanical pesticide osthole (OST), designed to provide extended preventive protection against infestations.
