Background: Spinal multiple myeloma (MM) and solitary plasmacytoma of bone (SPB), both plasma cell neoplasms, greatly affect patients' quality of life due to spinal involvement. Accurate prediction of surgical outcomes is crucial for personalized patient care, but systematic treatment guidelines and predictive models are lacking.
Objective: This study aimed to develop and validate a machine learning (ML)-based model to predict postoperative outcomes and identify prognostic factors for patients with spinal MM and SPB.

Stroke poses a significant risk of mortality, particularly among the elderly population. The pathophysiological process of ischemic stroke is complex, and it is crucial to elucidate its molecular mechanisms and explore potential protective drugs. Ferroptosis, a newly recognized form of programmed cell death distinct from necrosis, apoptosis, and autophagy, is closely associated with the pathophysiology of ischemic stroke.

Unlabelled: Fibroblast activation protein (FAP) has emerged as a highly promising target for cancer diagnostic imaging and targeted radionuclide therapy. To exploit the therapeutic potential of suitably radiolabeled FAP inhibitors (FAPIs), this study presents the design and synthesis of a series of FAPI dimers to increase tumor uptake and retention. Preclinical evaluation and a pilot clinical PET imaging study were conducted to screen the lead compound with the potential for radionuclide therapy.

Introduction: This study analyzes the impact of active smoking and secondhand smoke on the ischemic stroke burden of Pakistan, 1990-2019.
Methods: We used data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) database to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of ischemic stroke-related indicators in Pakistan, including the number of deaths, mortality rates, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), DALY rates, and the estimated annual percentage change (EAPC). Joinpoint analysis was applied to assess sex-specific temporal trends in the burden of active smoking and secondhand smoke in Pakistan and regions of Pakistan.

Programmed death-1 and its ligand-1 (PD-1/PD-L1), immune checkpoints proteins, play a crucial role in anti-tumor responses. A large number of studies have evaluated the relationships of PD-1/PD-L1 polymorphisms with risk of cancer, but evidence for the associations remains inconsistent. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to examine the associations between PD-1/PD-L1 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and cancer predisposition.

Understanding selectivity mechanisms of inhibitors towards highly homologous proteins is of paramount importance in the design of selective candidates. Human aldo-keto reductases (AKRs) pertain to a superfamily of monomeric oxidoreductases, which serve as NADPH-dependent cytosolic enzymes to catalyze the reduction of carbonyl groups to primary and secondary alcohols using electrons from NADPH. Among AKRs, AKR1B1 is emerging as a promising target for cancer treatment and diabetes, despite its high structural similarity with AKR1B10, which leads to severe adverse events.

Background: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a multifactorial gastrointestinal disease with high morbidity and mortality among premature infants. However, studies with large samples on the factors of NEC in China have not been reported. This meta-analysis aims to systematically review the literature to explore the influencing factors of necrotizing enterocolitis in premature infants in China and provide a reference for the prevention of NEC.

Controllable preparation of materials with new structure has always been the top priority of polymer materials science research. Here, the supramolecular binding strategy is adopted to develop covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with novel structures and functions. Based on this, a two-dimensional crown-ether ring threaded covalent organic framework (COF), denoted as Crown-COPF with intrinsic photothermal (PTT) and photodynamic (PDT) therapeutic capacity, was facilely developed using crown-ether threaded rotaxane and porphyrin as building blocks.

Thyroid metastases secondary to triple-negative breast cancer are sporadic. Diagnosis usually requires fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) and immunohistochemistry. There are no treatment guidelines for this type of cancer, and to date, reports of chemotherapy combined with immunotherapy in thyroid metastases are very rare.

Forensic microbiome research is a field with a wide range of applications and a number of protocols have been developed for its use in this area of research. As individuals host radically different microbiota, the human microbiome is expected to become a new biomarker for forensic identification. To achieve an effective use of this procedure an understanding of factors which can alter the human microbiome and determinations of stable and changing elements will be critical in selecting appropriate targets for investigation.

Ovarian endometriosis (EMs) is a benign, estrogen-dependent gynecological disorder. Estrogen receptor beta (ERβ), a nuclear receptor for estradiol, plays an important role in the development of ovarian EMs. Here, we investigated the biological significance of aurora kinase A (AURKA) in ovarian EMs and the mechanism by which it regulates ERβ.

Background: Ischemic colitis (IC) is also known as colon ischemia and is caused by colon vascular occlusion or nonocclusion, which results in a reduced blood supply to the colon and is not significant enough to maintain the metabolic function of cells, leading to intestinal wall ischemia. Its main symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and bloody stool. In severe cases, intestinal gangrene, peritonitis, intestinal stenosis and even intestinal obstruction may occur.
