Introduction: Multi-drug resistance (MDR) is one of the leading reasons that cause the failures of cancer treatment. Novel agents that may reverse MDR and neutralize drug-resistant cancer cells are highly desirable for clinical practice. The targeting of cellular redox homeostasis and/or mitochondria-mediated energy metabolism are promising strategies for the suppression of drug-resistant cancer cells.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of reducing post-gastrectomy hemorrhage by increasing blood pressure at the end of gastric surgery and to evaluate whether this clinical intervention affects the stability of patients' postoperative circulatory system.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 499 patients who underwent radical gastrectomy under general anesthesia at our center between January 2023 and January 2024. After 1:1 propensity score matching, the experimental group comprised 157 patients whose operation cavities were examined after increasing blood pressure before the end of gastrectomy, while the control group included 157 patients whose operation cavities were examined using routine procedures without increasing blood pressure.

We aimed to evaluate the effect of remimazolam-based general anesthesia on cellular immune function and postoperative recovery quality in patients undergoing laparoscopic radical colorectal cancer surgery. A total of 90 patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic colorectal cancer radical surgery were randomly divided into 2 groups: the remimazolam group (Group R) and the propofol group (Group P), with 45 patients in each group. Anesthesia induction in Group R involved intravenous remimazolam, and in Group P, intravenous propofol until the loss of consciousness (modified observer's assessment of alertness/sedation [MOAA/S] score 1-2).

An Intervertebral Disc (IVD) Regeneration Model Using Human Nucleus Pulposus Cells (iHNPCs) and Annulus Fibrosus Cells (iHAFCs).

Adv Healthc Mater

March 2025

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Beijing Hospital, National Center of Gerontology, Institute of Geriatric Medicine, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100005, China.

Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration (IVDD), primarily caused by nucleus pulposus (NP) dehydration, leads to low back pain. While current treatments focus on symptom management or surgical intervention, tissue engineering using IVD-derived cells, biofactors, and scaffolds offers a promising regenerative approach. Here, human NP cells (NPCs) and annulus fibrosus cells (AFCs) are immortalized with human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), generating immortalized NPCs (iHNPCs) and AFCs (iHAFCs).

Among the Poly(ADP-ribose) Polymerase (PARP) family in mammals, PARP1 is the first identified and well-studied member that plays a critical role in DNA damage repair and has been proven to be an effective target for cancer therapy. Here, we have reviewed not only the role of PARP1 in different DNA damage repair pathways, but also the working mech-anisms of several PARP inhibitors (PARPi), inhibiting Poly-ADP-ribosylation (PARylation) processing and PAR chains production to trap PARP1 on impaired DNA and inducing Tran-scription-replication Conflicts (TRCs) by inhibiting the PARP1 activity. This review has sys-tematically summarized the latest clinical application of six authorized PARPi, including olaparib, rucaparib, niraparib, talazoparib, fuzuloparib and pamiparib, in monotherapy and combination therapies with chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy, in different kinds of cancer.

Department of Dermatology, Affiliated Hospital of Shandong Second Medical University, School of Clinical Medicine, Shandong Second Medical University, Weifang, Shandong, People's Republic of China.

Dermatosis neglecta (DN) is a rare condition, often linked to psychosomatic disorders, with an unclear etiology. Chilblain lupus erythematosus (CHLE) constitutes a rare variant of cutaneous lupus erythematosus, frequently mistaken for idiopathic chilblain due to its chilblain-like lesions. To date, no instances of concurrent DN and CHLE occurring at the site of a skin flap or graft have been documented.

Fallopian tube carcinoma has a rare incidence and dismal prognosis. Sister Mary Joseph's nodule is an intra-abdominal tumor that metastasizes to the umbilicus. To date, fewer than 10 cases of fallopian tube carcinoma with Sister Mary Joseph's nodule have been reported, with most of them exhibiting a very poor prognosis.

This study was conducted to examine the effects and mechanisms of hypoxia-preconditioned human dental pulp stem cells (H-hDPSCs) transplantation on microglial pyroptosis in neonatal rats with hypoxic-ischemic brain damage (HIBD). The hDPSCs were extracted using the tissue block method and identified by immunofluorescence staining. The HIBD model was constructed using the classical Rice-Vannucci method.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is the most common subtype of lung cancer. Despite advances in treatment, the prognosis remains poor due to late diagnosis. Cuproptosis (driven by copper ion accumulation) and disulfidptosis (driven by disulfide bond accumulation) are novel forms of programmed cell death, closely linked to tumor initiation, progression, and resistance.

Key Laboratory of Animal Genetics, Breeding and Reproduction of Shaanxi Province, College of Animal Science and Technology, Northwest A&F University, No. 22 Xinong Road, Yangling, Shaanxi Province, 712100, P.R. China.

Background: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play crucial roles in testicular development and spermatogenesis. The seminiferous tubule, the exclusive site of spermatogenesis, houses all types of male germ cells, regulated by both lncRNAs and mRNAs. However, the expression patterns and functions of these molecules across different developmental stages of dairy goat seminiferous tubules remain poorly understood.

February 2025

Department of Ophthalmology, Zhengzhou University People's Hospital, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, Zhengzhou, China. Electronic address:

The ocular surface (OS), like other mucosal sites, hosts a diverse microbiome. However, the impact of hyperglycemia associated with diabetes on OS microbial composition remains poorly understood. In this study, we established type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) models in C57BL/6J mice by administering high-dose streptozotocin (STZ) for T1DM and low-dose STZ combined with a high-fat diet for T2DM.

Specific regulation of the tumor microenvironment (TME) is a potential strategy for tumor therapy. Although many TME-responsive nanozymes have been developed for tumor therapy, the limited substrates affect the therapeutic effect. In this study, cerium single-atom nanozymes (Ce SAs) are prepared by immobilizing cerium (Ce) using zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) as a precursor.
