Socio-demographic and clinical determinants of self-care in adults with type 2 diabetes: a multicenter cross-sectional study in Zhejiang province, China.

Background: Self-care, a process of maintaining health through health-promoting practices and managing illness, is pivotal for the management of type 2 diabetes. This study aimed to explore the self-care level and investigate its socio-demographic and clinical determinants among Chinese adults with type 2 diabetes.

Methods: In this multicenter cross-sectional study, we enrolled 495 Chinese adults with type 2 diabetes from the outpatient departments of three tertiary hospitals in Zhejiang province, China.

Current status and factors influencing kinesiophobia in patients with meniscus injury: a cross-sectional study.

Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationships between kinesiophobia and injury severity, balance ability, knee pain intensity, self-efficacy, and functional status in patients with meniscus injuries and to identify key predictors of kinesiophobia.

Design: A single-center, prospective cross-sectional study.

Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 123 patients diagnosed with meniscus injuries at Fujian Provincial Hospital was conducted.

Background: Multiple studies have demonstrated that the abundance and functionality of γδ T cells are favorable prognostic indicators for prolonged survival in cancer patients. However, the association between the immunophenotype of circulating γδ T cells and the therapeutic response in NSCLC patients undergoing chemotherapy or targeted therapy remains unclear.

Methods: Patients with EGFR wild-type (EGFR-WT) or mutant (EGFR-Mut) non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), diagnosed between January 2020 and January 2024, were included in this study.

Comparative efficacy and safety of first-line neoadjuvant therapy for early-stage non-small cell lung cancer based on immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy: a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Introduction: Although there are a number of neoadjuvant immunotherapy combinations that can be applied to the treatment of perioperative non-small cell lung cancer patients, the optimal treatment combination strategy has not yet been determined.

Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, ClinicalTrials.go and randomised controlled trials (RCTs) from major international conferences for literature related to neoadjuvant immunotherapy combinations published as first-line treatment options for non-small cell lung cancer from the start of the library to 20 February 2024, and performed a systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Analysis of the morbidity characteristics and related factors of pulmonary nodules in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: a retrospective study.

Objective: To analyze the characteristics of pulmonary nodules (PNs) and related influencing factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: Retrospectively analyzed the clinical and biochemical characteristics of 224 patients with PNs and 488 patients with non-PNs in patients with T2DM, and compared the clinical data of 72 patients with large nodules (≥ 5 mm) and 152 patients with small nodules (< 5 mm) in the pulmonary nodules (PNs) group.

Results: Compared to the non-PNs group, the PNs Patients in the group had a longer duration of diabetes, higher age, serum creatinine (SCR), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and the lower albumin (ALB) and body mass index (BMI); women, diabetic retinopathy (DR), diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 ml/min1.

Effect of Artemisia annua on anticoccidial action, intestinal microbiota and metabolites of Hu lambs.

Background: Coccidia are among the primary pathogens causing diarrhea and even fatalities in lambs. With the increasing use of chemical drugs to treat coccidiosis, the problem of drug resistance is becoming more and more threatening. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify novel alternative drugs for the treatment of the lamb coccidia.

Methods: Data were sourced from the China's National Maternal Near Miss Surveillance System (NMNMSS) between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2021.

Background: To investigate the antibiofilm effect and mechanism of the silver nanowire (AgNW)-modified glass ionomer cement (GIC) against multi-species oral biofilm, and to examine the mechanical and biochemical properties of this novel GIC material.

Methods: Conventional GIC was incorporated with different concentrations of AgNW and silver nanoparticles (AgNP). Multi-species biofilms of Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sobrinus, Lactobacillus fermentum, and Lactobacillus rhamnosus were cultured for 72 h on GIC specimens.

Identification of novel serum lipid metabolism potential markers and metabolic pathways for oral cancer: a population-based study.

Objective: This study aims to identify potential lipid biomarkers and metabolic pathways associated with oral cancer (OC). Then to establish and evaluate disease classification models capable of distinguishing OC patients from healthy controls.

Methods: A total of 41 OC patients and 41 controls were recruited from a hospital in Southeast China to examine the serum lipidomics by Ultra-high Performance Liquid Chromatography Q Exactive Mass Spectrometry (UHPLC-QE-MS).

Introduction: Retirement represents a significant life transition and is associated with individual health outcomes. Previous studies on the health effects of retirement have yielded inconsistent conclusions. This study aimed to estimate the impact of retirement on the body mass index (BMI) and BMI-defined overweight and obesity.

Identifying novel heterozygous PI4KA variants in fetal abnormalities.

Background: The clinical manifestations of PI4KA-related disorders are characterized by considerable variability, predominantly featuring neurological impairments, gastrointestinal symptoms, and a combined immunodeficiency. The aim of this study was to delineate the novel spectrum of PI4KA variants detected prenatally and to assess their influence on fetal development.

Methods: A thorough fetal ultrasound screening was conducted, supplemented by both antenatal and post-abortion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies.

Impact of maternal age on birth weight-related adverse outcomes in newborns: a retrospective study in south-central China.

Background: Birth weight is a critical indicator for assessing fetal development and newborn health status. This study aimed to examine both linear and nonlinear associations between maternal age and birth weight and their related adverse outcomes.

Methods: 15,923 delivery data from 2018 to 2021 for pregnant women from the Changsha Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital were reviewed by a retrospective study.

Development and application of reverse transcriptase droplet digital PCR technology for sensitive detection of BVDV-1 and BTV in bovine semen.

Background: Bovine viral diarrhoea virus genotype 1 (BVDV-1) and bluetongue virus (BTV) are potent viral pathogens that may be transmitted through semen, resulting in the spread of diseases via artificial insemination. Thus, establishing an early detection method for BVDV-1 and BTV infection is important for the trading of semen. In this study, we developed two RT‒ddPCR methods to detect BVDV-1 and BTV, and each method was evaluated for repeatability, limit of detection and specificity.

Severe pregnancy-associated atypical hemolytic uremia syndrome in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: a novel survival case report.

Background: Pregnancy-associated atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a form of thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) caused by uncontrolled activation of the complement system during pregnancy or the postpartum period. In the intensive care unit, aHUS must be differentiated from sepsis-related multiple organ dysfunction, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet (HELLP) syndrome. Early recognition of aHUS is critical for effective treatment and improved prognosis.

Novel predictive biomarkers for atonic postpartum hemorrhage as explored by proteomics and metabolomics.

Background: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of maternal mortality worldwide, with uterine atony accounting for approximately 70% of PPH cases. However, there is currently no effective prediction method to promote early management of PPH. In this study, we aimed to screen for potential predictive biomarkers for atonic PPH using combined omics approaches.

Assessment of clinical outcomes and prognostic factors following membrane peeling in idiopathic epiretinal membrane using EIFL staging system: an optical coherence tomography angiography analysis.

Background: To evaluate the associations between anatomical changes and visual outcomes after membrane peeling in eyes with different stages of idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

Methods: All iERM eyes were graded into four stages based on the presence of ectopic inner foveal layers (EIFL) and underwent 23-gauge vitrectomy combined with ERM and internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling, while their fellow eyes were treated as the control group. OCTA was used to measure retinal thickness(RT), foveal avascular zone (FAZ)-related parameters and superficial and deep capillary plexus (SCP and DCP) layers using 6 × 6 mm scans before, 1 month and 3 months after surgery.

Risk factors and machine learning prediction models for intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy.

Background: Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) is a liver disorder that occurs in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and is associated with a significant risk of fetal complications, including premature birth and fetal death. In clinical practice, the diagnosis of ICP is predominantly based on the presence of pruritus in pregnant women and elevated serum total bile acid. However, this approach may result in missed or delayed diagnoses.

Difference of SARS-CoV-2 infection and influence factors between people with and without HIV infection.

Background: There are mixed findings in the literature regarding the association between HIV status and the risk of COVID-19 infection. Thus, we aimed to estimate the association between characteristics of HIV infection and the risk of COVID-19 Infection in a Chinese sample.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of 1995 people living with HIV (PLWH) and 3503 HIV-negative adults in Ningbo, China.

Relationship between mucin gene polymorphisms and different types of gallbladder stones.

Background: Gallstones, a common surgical condition globally, affect around 20% of patients. The development of gallstones is linked to abnormal cholesterol and bilirubin metabolism, reduced gallbladder function, insulin resistance, biliary infections, and genetic factors. In addition to these factors, research has shown that mucins play a role in gallstone formation.

Association between heavy metals and risk of cardiovascular diseases in US adults with prediabetes from NHANES 2011-2018.

Background: The association of plasma metals on the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in adults with prediabetes remains poorly investigated. To assess the association between plasma metal exposure and the risk of CVD in prediabetic adults in the United States using five plasma metals.

Methods: Five cycles of data (2011-2012, 2013-2014, 2015-2016, and 2017-2018) from the NHANES were adopted in this study.

Subgroups based on fears of evaluation exhibited different social anxiety levels.

The bivalent fear of evaluation model proposes that fear of negative evaluation (FNE) and fear of positive evaluation (FPE) are distinct but related constructs, and that social anxiety arises when they are elevated. This represents a variable-centered perspective. However, a recent review suggested that individuals may be affected by unique combinations of FNE and FPE because they have different functions, mechanisms, and outcomes.

Configurational effects of intergenerational support on older adults' depression: an empirical study from CHARLS data.

Background: The influence of different dimensions of intergenerational support on depression in older adults has a configuration effect. Existing researches have only used linear analyses to examine the independent effects of each dimension of intergenerational support on depression in older adults, resulting in the nature of the effects of each dimension of intergenerational support on the presence of depression in older adults remaining highly controversial.

Objective: To explore the synergy and substitution effects (configurational effects) of dimensions of intergenerational support on depression in older adults.

The association between serum ferritin levels and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus: a prospective cohort study.

Background: The relationship between serum ferritin levels and the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the association between serum ferritin levels and the incidence of GDM.

Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study involving 10,871 pregnant women from the China Birth Cohort Study.

Low-dose aspirin for the prevention of preeclampsia in women with polycystic ovary syndrome: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy of low-dose aspirin (LDA) in preventing preeclampsia among pregnant women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), given the increased susceptibility of this population to preeclampsia development.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on pregnant women with PCOS who delivered between January 1, 2018 and February 10, 2024 at our institution. Clinical characteristics and obstetric data were extracted from medical records.

Differences and driving factors of leaf functional traits between old tree and mature tree of Pinus tabulaeformis in the Loess Plateau.

Background: Study the leaf functional traits is highly important for understanding the survival strategies and climate adaptability of old trees. In this study, the old (over 100 years old) and mature trees (about 50 years old) of Pinus tabulaeformis in the Loess Plateau were studied, and the variation of 18 leaf functional traits (6 economic, 4 anatomical, 2 photosynthetic and 6 physiological traits) was analyzed to understand the differences of survival strategies between old and mature trees. Combined with transcriptome and simple sequence repeats (SSR) techniques, the effects of soil property factors and genetic factors on leaf functional traits and the potential molecular mechanisms of traits differences were studied.
