Research Unit of Structural Chemistry & Computational Biophysics, Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie, Berlin 13125, Germany.

Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have emerged as a powerful theoretical toolbox for interpreting and analyzing the experimental nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of chemical compounds. While DFT has been extensively used and benchmarked for isotropic NMR observables, the evaluation of the full chemical shielding tensor, which is necessary for interpreting residual chemical shift anisotropy (RCSA), has received much less attention, despite its recent applications in the structural elucidation of organic molecules. In this study, we present a comprehensive benchmark of carbon shielding anisotropies based on coupled cluster reference tensors taken from the NS372 benchmark data set.

Solar-Driven Nanofluidic Ion Regulation for Fractional Salt Crystallization and Reutilization.

ACS Nano

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Drinking Water Science and Technology, Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100085, China.

Solar water evaporation (SWE) has emerged as an appealing method for water and salt recovery from hypersaline wastewater. However, different ions usually transfer and accumulate uncontrollably during ion-water separation, making salt fractionalization impractical for conventional SWE, and the resulting mixed salts are hard to use and still require significant costs for disposal. To achieve salt fractionalization and reutilization, achieving ion-water and ion-ion separation simultaneously are crucial in advancing SWE toward sustainability.

During meiosis, each pair of homologous chromosomes becomes connected by at least one crossover, as required for accurate segregation, and adjacent crossovers are widely separated thereby limiting total numbers. In coarsening models, this crossover patterning results from nascent recombination sites competing to accrue a limiting pro-crossover RING-domain protein (COR) that diffuses between synapsed chromosomes. Here, we delineate the localization dynamics of three mammalian CORs in the mouse and determine their interdependencies.

Proton conducting electrochemical cells (PCECs) are efficient and clean intermediate-temperature energy conversion devices. The proton concentration across the PCECs is often nonuniform, and characterizing the distribution of proton concentration can help to locate the position of rate-limiting reactions. However, the determination of the local proton concentration under operating conditions remains challenging.

Targeting KAT6A/B as a New Therapeutic Strategy for Cancer Therapy.

J Med Chem

January 2025

Jiangsu Collaborative Innovation Center of Chinese Medicinal Resources Industrialization, School of Medicine, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing 210023, China.

The lysine acetyltransferase 6A (KAT6A, MOZ, MYST3) is a member of the MYST family of protein acetyltransferases, which are essential for different biological processes such as craniofacial, embryonic, stem cell development, and hematopoiesis. KAT6A is an oncogene in human acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and KAT6A overexpression in AML is associated with metastases and poor prognoses. Furthermore, KAT6A mutations play an important role in cancer formation and progression and result in therapeutic resistance in both hematopoietic malignancies and solid tumors.

Single-cell proteomics (SCP) detected based on different technologies always involves batch-specific variations because of differences in sample processing and other potential biases. How to integrate SCP data effectively has become a great challenge. Integration of SCP data not only requires the conservation of true biological variances, but also realizes the removal of unwanted batch effects.
