Colorectal cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Capecitabine is a chemotherapeutic agent commonly used for the treatment of colon cancer. To realize local sustained release, promote efficient local intracellular transport, and mitigate the systemic toxic effects of capecitabine, a capecitabine prodrug, capecitabine-poly (p-dioxanone) (Cap-PPDO), was successfully synthesized.

In this study, we construct a quantum well effect-based two-dimensional Z-scheme superlattice heteronanostructure photocatalyst constructed from hydrogen-bonded porphyrin organic frameworks (HOFs) and carbon nitride. Porphyrin HOFs extend spectral absorption, while their π-conjugation and electron density variations significantly enhance charge separation and exhibit favorable alignment with the energy levels of carbon nitride, thereby enabling efficient charge transfer. Carboxylic acid channels in the HOFs further promote the decomposition of water molecules, thereby boosting hydrogen production.

To surmount the shortcomings of powder-based catalysts and small electrode sizes, the development of meter-scale integrated electrode materials is essential for practical electrocatalytic applications, which requires fine control over the effective surface grafting of catalytic active sites on large-size electrodes as well as addressing the challenge of balancing cost-effective and large-scale manufacturing with highly active and stable operation. Herein, we report a low-cost, facile, and scalable method for directly constructing meter-scale single-molecule-integrated catalytic electrodes using commercially available, flexible, and size-tailored conductive carbon textiles (e.g.

The segmented model has significant applications in scientific research when the change-point effect exists. In this article, we propose a comprehensive semiparametric framework in segmented models to test the existence and estimate the location of change points in the generalized outcome setting. The proposed framework is based on a semismooth estimating equation for the change-point estimation and an average score-type test for hypothesis testing.

Background: Hypertension is a major global health issue and a significant modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, contributing to a substantial socioeconomic burden due to its high prevalence. In China, particularly among populations living near desert regions, hypertension is even more prevalent due to unique environmental and lifestyle conditions, exacerbating the disease burden in these areas, underscoring the urgent need for effective early detection and intervention strategies.
Objective: This study aims to develop, calibrate, and prospectively validate a 2-year hypertension risk prediction model by using large-scale health examination data collected from populations residing in 4 regions surrounding the Taklamakan Desert of northwest China.

Porous KTi(PO) nanoparticles are synthesized via a solvothermal method and subsequently modified with nitrogen-doped carbon layers by using polydopamine as the carbon source. The resultant KTi(PO)@N-doped carbon composite (KTP@NC) exhibits a preserved porous structure with abundant pores, facilitating ion diffusion and electrolyte infiltration. Various characterizations, including X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and Raman spectroscopy, reveal the successful formation of an interconnected nitrogen-doped carbon network.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFResource competition among flowers is expected to influence variation in seed output within inflorescences, but the extent to which flower position affects competitive interactions is still incompletely understood. To investigate position effects on seed output in the perennial, monoecious macrophyte Sagittaria trifolia, we compared components of seed production (fruit set, seed number per fruit, and seed size) in control inflorescences to that in inflorescences from which half of the female flowers were experimentally removed, either from basal positions, from upper positions, or from across the inflorescence. Basal and upper flower removal reduced total seed output per inflorescence, while the throughout removal treatment maintained a seed yield comparable to the control.

The effectiveness of orally delivered probiotics in treating gastrointestinal diseases is restricted by inadequate gut retention. In this study, we present a magnetically controlled strategy for probiotic delivery, which enables controlled accumulation and residence of probiotics in the intestine. The magnetically controlled probiotic is established by attaching amino-modified iron oxide (FeO-NH NPs) to polydopamine-coated GG (LGG@P) through electrostatic self-assembly and named as LGG@P@FeO.

Studies have linked inhalation anesthesia and surgery to increased cognitive impairment, particularly in the elderly. Our previous research showed that isoflurane, but not desflurane, affected cognitive function in mice by modulating cyclophilin D (CypD), a key regulator of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) and mitochondrial function. Both anesthetics metabolize into trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), which is associated with cognitive deficits.

With the growing interest in skeletal muscle diseases, understanding the processes, factors, and treatments associated with muscle regeneration is crucial. Skeletal muscle regeneration is a complex process that largely depends on the niche composed of cell populations, such as satellite cells, and their microenvironment. Cellular senescence is associated with various physiological processes and age-related diseases and plays a significant role in the muscle regeneration niche.
